Atli launches travel eSIM buying in WhatsApp and Telegram

Atli launched a travel eSIM service inside WhatsApp and Telegram on September 10, 2026. Travelers can describe a trip in chat, receive plan suggestions, open a Stripe checkout page and get installation details back in the conversation.
The service is live in those messaging apps. Dedicated Atli apps for iOS and Android are still described as coming soon. The plans provide mobile data only, so they do not add a local phone number, standard calls or SMS.
The traveler answer: Atli can reduce the steps between asking for a plan and receiving an eSIM, but the important checks have not disappeared. Confirm the destination, allowance, validity, device compatibility and refund terms before paying, then install on reliable Wi-Fi before departure.
How buying an eSIM in WhatsApp works
Atli asks for details such as destination, trip length and expected data use. Its assistant then suggests a plan. Payment does not happen by sending card details in the conversation. The user follows a secure Stripe checkout link.
After payment, Atli says it returns three installation options in chat:
- an install button for a supported phone;
- a QR code; and
- manual SM-DP+ address and activation-code details.
That gives travelers more than one recovery route if the automatic option is unavailable. Keep the receipt and installation values somewhere accessible offline. A message history is less useful if the phone has no working Wi-Fi or mobile data on arrival.
What Atli offers today, and what is still planned
WhatsApp and Telegram are the working customer interfaces today. Atli also describes an account or wallet view where a traveler can see an installed eSIM, active plans, remaining data and days left.
The company has announced standalone iOS and Android apps, a multicurrency wallet, group trip planning, shared travel funds and broader payments. Those planned features should not be mistaken for current service.
The distinction matters when comparing a product that can be used now with a roadmap. Base a purchase on the checkout and support pages available on the day, not on a feature listed as coming soon.
Atli plans are data only
An Atli travel eSIM does not include a phone number, ordinary voice calls or SMS. Internet-based calls and messages can use the data connection where the relevant app and local rules permit them. Atli specifically notes that some destinations restrict internet calling.
The company says hotspot use is supported and draws from the same data allowance. That can help with a laptop, but it can also use a small plan quickly.
Keeping an existing WhatsApp account and home number is a separate phone-settings question. Our dedicated WhatsApp and travel eSIM guide owns that broader setup topic.
Install before travel, but watch the 30-day limit
Atli recommends installing over Wi-Fi before departure. Its help pages say a plan begins when the eSIM first connects to a supported network in the destination. They also say an unstarted plan expires 30 days after purchase.
That creates a practical window: buy and install early enough to solve compatibility problems, but not so early that the unused plan reaches its deadline. Check that the phone is unlocked and supports eSIM before checkout. Our eSIM installation timing guide explains why purchase, installation and activation are different events.
Atli says another plan can be added to the same installed eSIM and a next plan for the same destination can take over automatically. It also says the eSIM is tied to one account and device. Do not delete it during an active trip or assume it can be moved to a replacement phone.
Refund and support wording deserves a careful read
Atli's terms describe purchases as final except where a documented provider-side technical failure prevents service. Its help page adds an operational process: contact support within 14 days, with no refund for a change of mind, a locked or incompatible phone, or a plan that has already been used or connected.
Those statements are not a general cooling-off promise. Save evidence if installation or connectivity fails, and contact support before using an alternative plan if a refund may be needed.
Atli also warns that its AI assistant can produce incomplete or incorrect answers. A user can ask for human support. That escalation is important for activation, billing or refund cases where a repeated automated response is not enough.
Check privacy before moving a purchase into chat
Atli's privacy notice says it handles account details, order history, device identifiers, support conversations, usage information, approximate connection country, IP address and device data. It also says necessary information may be shared with network and eSIM provisioning partners, payment processors, AI providers, support services and cloud infrastructure.
The company says it does not sell personal data for third-party marketing. Even so, a messaging-based purchase creates several data relationships. Use only Atli's official contact links, inspect the checkout domain before paying and never send a card number, password, QR code or activation code to an unsolicited account.
Atli chat discovery versus a public eSIM catalog
Atli's strength is a conversational path from trip description to checkout and support. That can be convenient for someone who already uses WhatsApp or Telegram.
Roaming eSIM offers a public, read-only catalog where a traveler can inspect destination, allowance, validity, retail price, available network information, fair-use wording, top-up status and a direct product route before entering a private chat. Checkout stays in a user-controlled website flow.
Neither interface guarantees reception at a specific hotel, road or beach. Local network conditions, device bands and the exact package still matter.
Compare destination plans directly
For a multi-region trip, compare the Global 120+ areas eSIM with a Europe eSIM. Travelers can also check a United States eSIM or Japan eSIM on its public product page.
Those pages own destination plan-shopping intent. This story covers Atli's messaging-based purchase route, its current limits and the checks a traveler should make.
Ten questions travelers ask about the Atli WhatsApp eSIM
Can I buy an Atli eSIM entirely inside WhatsApp?
The conversation, recommendation and delivery happen through WhatsApp, but payment opens a Stripe checkout link. Do not send payment details as a normal chat message.
Does Atli also work in Telegram?
Yes. Atli lists Telegram alongside WhatsApp as a live way to use the service.
Is there an Atli mobile app?
Not yet according to Atli's current website. Its iOS and Android apps are announced as coming soon.
Does an Atli eSIM include calls, SMS or a phone number?
No. It is a data-only service. App-based calling and messaging can use mobile data where the app and local rules allow them.
Should I install the eSIM before flying?
Atli recommends installing on Wi-Fi before travel. Remember that an unstarted plan expires 30 days after purchase.
When does the plan start?
Atli says it starts when the eSIM first connects to a supported network at the destination.
Can I use a hotspot?
Atli says yes. Connected devices use the same plan allowance.
Can I top up the installed Atli eSIM?
Atli says another plan can be added to the installed eSIM. Check the new plan's destination, allowance, validity and price before buying it.
Can I move the eSIM to another phone?
Atli says the eSIM is tied to one account and one device. Do not assume it can be transferred after installation.
What if the AI assistant cannot fix my problem?
Ask for human support and keep the order, device and error details. Atli itself warns that automated answers can be incomplete or incorrect.
