ACL Festival 2026 guide: schedule, shuttle and bag rules

Austin City Limits Music Festival runs October 2 to 4 and October 9 to 11, 2026, at Zilker Park. The performance schedule is live and wristbands are shipping. The official 2026 shuttle location, gate hours and festival map were still pending when this guide was checked on September 13, so do not build the trip around last year's details.

There is no festival parking at Zilker Park or in the surrounding neighborhoods. Pick an arrival route and an exit route before choosing the sets you want to see. If you wait until the final headliner ends to make that decision, the shuttle queue, rideshare demand and mobile-network load all arrive at once.

Which ACL weekend should you choose?

The two weekends share most of the lineup, but they are not identical. Skrillex is the Weekend One-only top-billed name, while Kings of Leon fills that position on Weekend Two. Charli xcx, RUFUS DU SOL, Twenty One Pilots, Lorde and The xx appear among the shared leading acts.

Choose by artist and day, not by a general claim that one weekend will be calmer. ACL has published the day-by-day schedule, so compare your non-negotiable sets and look for clashes before buying or changing travel. A single-day ticket can make more sense than a full weekend when the artists you want are concentrated on one date.

The official schedule is the source to trust. Save the relevant day as a screenshot, then check it again on the morning you attend. A festival app is useful for updates, but a saved image will still open if mobile data slows inside the park.

Wristband shipping, activation and box-office help

ACL says tickets ship about a month before the festival. If a wristband has not arrived seven days before your event, contact Front Gate Tickets. Do not buy a replacement merely because another attendee received theirs first. Shipping notices can arrive at different times.

When the wristband arrives:

1. Check the order and weekend before putting it on.
2. Do not tighten it early. The wristband is non-transferable and must stay on for the event.
3. Activate it when the 2026 activation page is available. Activation is recommended for safety features and cashless registration, but ACL says it is not required for entry.
4. Scan out when leaving if you plan to return that day. The published policy permits two same-day re-entries.

The pre-festival box office at Palmer Events Center is scheduled for October 1 from 11 AM to 7 PM. West, Lady Bird and East box offices are scheduled from 11 AM to 9 PM on all six festival days. Bring a government-issued ID and the receipt barcode for will call or ticket support. The Palmer garage charges for parking.

How to get to ACL Festival without parking at Zilker

The official transport page is clear about one point: there is no parking at Zilker Park or in the surrounding neighborhoods. It lists walking, biking, CapMetro, rideshare and festival shuttles as alternatives. The shuttle section still said to check back for its 2026 location and hours on September 13.

Do not assume an old Republic Square pickup or a previous timetable is valid. Use the official ACL transport page when the final notice appears. Save the pickup pin and operating hours before leaving your accommodation.

Festival shuttle

The shuttle usually removes the need to navigate the final road restrictions yourself. Its weak point is the trip home: many people leave after the same headliner. Decide before entering whether you will join the return line, walk to a less congested transit point or leave a set early.

Until ACL publishes the 2026 details, choose accommodation with more than one workable route. A hotel that depends on one presumed shuttle stop is a risk if the location changes.

CapMetro

Use the current CapMetro trip planner, not a route graphic from a previous festival. ACL identifies public transit as an option, but event detours and stop closures can alter the final walk. Check the service-alert page on your festival day.

Travelers arriving at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport can take CapMetro Route 20 toward downtown. CapMetro says the airport service normally runs every 15 to 30 minutes and takes about 35 minutes to downtown. Its current airport page also suggests a Route 20 to Route 30 transfer for Zilker Park, but ACL-specific detours can change that handoff. Go to your accommodation first if you have luggage.

Rideshare and taxi

A rideshare can work well before the busiest arrival period. It will not drop you at a stage or bypass street controls. Use the event destination in the app, follow the current drop-off instructions and expect a walk.

For the return, agree on a pickup area outside the immediate crowd. Do not let a group split between several moving pins. If the network is slow, walk together to the preselected point before requesting a car.

Walking and cycling

ACL lists three approaches: the Lady Bird entrance from the north via the pedestrian bridge under MoPac, plus east and west approaches along Barton Springs Road. The final 2026 map will show which entrance best matches your first stage and accessibility needs.

Walking avoids vehicle queues, but the distance must still work after a full day in the park. Cycling needs a current parking plan and a light for the trip home. Do not ride against pedestrian controls after the final set.

Build an exit plan before the first set

Festival exits fail when every decision depends on a live phone. Public discussions from previous ACL weekends repeatedly mention weak or inconsistent cell service later in the day. Those reports describe individual experiences, not a guaranteed 2026 network outcome, but they justify a simple offline plan.

Before entering Zilker:

• choose one meeting point inside the park and one outside it;
• save the hotel address and route as screenshots;
• write one companion's number on paper;
• decide whether you will leave before, during or after the final song;
• pick a second transport option if the shuttle or rideshare plan becomes impractical;
• carry a charged power bank and cable.

Text messages may complete when photo uploads and map tiles do not. Send short messages with a location and timestamp. A different data profile can give a compatible phone another network option, but no eSIM can guarantee capacity in a packed park.

ACL Festival bag policy and permitted items

The current ACL bag page allows small clutch purses and fanny packs measuring 6 by 9 inches or less without clear material, but they can have no more than one pocket. Other allowed bags must be clear and smaller than 12 by 6 by 12 inches.

Small empty hydration packs do not need to be clear. They may have up to two pockets in addition to the reservoir pocket. All bags are searched. ACL says leaving a bag at home is the quickest entry option and does not pre-approve individual bag models.

The allowed-items page lists empty reusable water bottles, allowed hydration packs, factory-sealed naloxone or Narcan, portable phone chargers, blankets, binoculars, strollers and stroller wagons when a child is present. Non-aerosol sunscreen is limited to 3.4 ounces, according to the current page.

Umbrellas, aerosol containers, outside food and drink, large backpacks, coolers, glass, professional audio or video equipment, drones, scooters and bicycles inside the grounds are prohibited. Medical dietary items and necessary medication have separate accessibility procedures. Recheck the official list before packing because security rules can change.

Heat, rain, dust and hydration

October is one of Austin's wetter months in the National Weather Service climate summary, but warm afternoons remain possible. A forecast several weeks out cannot tell you what either ACL weekend will feel like.

Check the National Weather Service Austin forecast the morning of each festival day. Bring an allowed empty bottle, non-aerosol sunscreen, a hat, comfortable shoes and a compact poncho if rain is possible. Umbrellas are not allowed. Natural terrain can become muddy after rain, and the accessibility page warns that distances across the outdoor site are substantial.

Heat decisions should happen before symptoms appear. Refill water, take shade breaks and leave a dense crowd if you feel unwell. Uniformed security and law enforcement are present, and medical locations should be confirmed on the final map.

Accessibility at ACL Festival 2026

ACL provides designated accessible entry lanes. A separate accessible ticket is not required, but every attendee still needs the appropriate festival admission. Visitors who need mobility or Deaf accommodations can request an accessibility wristband at the Access Center for themselves and one companion.

Accessible and ASL viewing areas have limited capacity and operate first come, first served. A wristband does not reserve a place. The site includes natural terrain, long distances and possible mud, and ACL does not provide wheelchairs, push assistance or golf-cart transport.

The organizer asked for ASL, guided-tour and assistive-listening requests by September 2. If you missed that date, contact [email protected]; ACL says it will try to accommodate late requests but does not guarantee them. Confirm the Access Center, charging point, accessible toilets and viewing areas on the final 2026 map.

Taking children to ACL

ACL is all ages. Children age 8 and under may attend free with a paid adult, with a limit of two children per ticketed adult. Platinum has different child-ticket rules, so check that tier before arrival.

Austin Kiddie Limits is due to return, but its full 2026 program was still pending at review time. Do not promise a child a particular activity until the schedule is published.

For a family day, favor an earlier visit and leave before the largest night-time exit if young children are tired by crowds or noise. Bring ear protection, use the permitted stroller policy where appropriate, photograph what children are wearing and put an adult's number on a paper card. Choose a meeting point that is specific enough for staff to identify.
