IAA Transportation 2026 runs at the Hannover exhibition grounds from Tuesday, September 15, through Sunday, September 20. Most visitors can use one day if they choose two or three subject areas before arriving. Anyone scheduling supplier meetings, conference sessions and test drives should allow two days.
The most important ticket detail is easy to miss: an IAA admission ticket does not include local public transport. A separate IAA Transportation transit ticket is available for Hannover fare zones A to C. Regional rail construction also changes which trains stop at Hannover Messe/Laatzen, so the route that worked for another fair may not work this week.

The event is about commercial transport rather than passenger cars. Trucks, vans, buses, trailers, bodies, charging systems, logistics software, components and automated-driving systems make up the core of the show. The weekend adds the Family and Drivers programme, but the same large trade-fair site is in use.
Do not arrive on Monday morning with an ordinary weekday ticket. Press Day has its own access rules. Accredited media enter from 8:00, while the paid Exclusive Press Day ticket provides one admission from 12:00.

These are the organizer's online prices checked on September 14. Weekday, full-event, afternoon and Press Day prices are higher at the on-site desk. Tickets are personalized, non-transferable and non-refundable. Children under six enter free without a ticket; children aged six and older need one.
A normal day ticket stops being valid after the visitor leaves. That matters if a meeting, hotel or parked car is outside the grounds. The full-event ticket allows repeated admission, but the organizer tells visitors to contact entrance staff before leaving when they need to come back on the same day.
Does an IAA ticket include Hannover public transport?
No. The IAA admission page says event tickets do not include public transport. ÜSTRA lists IAA Transportation under the fairs with a separate Messefahrkarte, not under the events whose admission badge doubles as a transit ticket.
The separate IAA Transportation transit ticket provides unlimited travel in Hannover zones A, B and C from September 13 until 5:00 on September 21. Buy it through the linked GVH shop and keep it separate from the QR code used at the exhibition entrance. A Deutsche Bahn Event Ticket is another product and may include a City-Ticket under its own terms. Do not assume those two rail offers are interchangeable.
Visitors making only one or two local journeys should compare the event transit ticket with ordinary ÜSTRA fares before buying. The admission ticket alone will not satisfy a fare inspection.
How to reach IAA Transportation from Hannover Central Station
Light rail lines 8 and 18 run from Hannover Hauptbahnhof to Messe/Nord in about 18 minutes and place visitors at the North 1 and North 2 entrances. This is the simplest default when the starting point is the city centre or when a regional train cannot stop at the fair station.
Line 6 runs from Kröpcke to Hannover Messe/Ost in about 24 minutes and reaches the East 3 entrance. Choose the entrance after checking the first hall or meeting, not by habit. Starting at the wrong edge can add a long walk across the grounds.
Hannover Messe/Laatzen station serves West 1 via a weather-protected Skywalk of about 400 metres. S4 and special S8 trains stop there. The S-Bahn operator says there are three connections per hour between the main station and Messe/Laatzen from Tuesday through Saturday, then two per hour on Sunday.
Which trains are affected by construction?
The RE2 between Hannover and Göttingen does not stop at Hannover Messe/Laatzen during the fair. The RE10 between Hannover and Hildesheim is diverted via Lehrte and also does not stop there. Travelers approaching on those routes should continue to Hannover Hauptbahnhof and change to the S-Bahn or light rail.
The fair's arrival page also lists 18 daily special ICE stops at Messe/Laatzen and added metronom and erixx stops. These are train-specific, so confirm the stop in DB Navigator instead of assuming every service on the corridor calls at the exhibition station.
S4 and S8 trains toward Hannover Hauptbahnhof do not serve Langenhagen Mitte because of construction. This mainly affects people combining an airport-area stay with the fair. Check the live itinerary on the morning of travel.
How to get from Hannover Airport to the fair
Special S8 trains run directly from Hannover Airport through Hannover Hauptbahnhof to Hannover Messe/Laatzen. The local transport notice schedules the airport-to-fair service about once an hour between 8:00 and 20:00 on all event days.
If the direct S8 timing does not work, take S5 from the airport to Hannover Hauptbahnhof, then change to line 8 for Messe/Nord. A taxi takes about 30 minutes in ordinary conditions, according to the organizer, but fair traffic can change that estimate.
Save both rail options before landing. The direct train is convenient, but an hourly service is not a useful fallback after a missed connection unless its next departure still fits the ticketed schedule.
How to plan the halls without wasting the day
Start with outcomes, not exhibitor count. Pick a primary subject, one adjacent subject and one experience. A visitor interested in electric fleets, for example, might combine vehicle manufacturers, charging systems and one test-drive window. A fleet-software buyer might combine telematics, supplier meetings and conference sessions.
Use the official IAA Transportation app to search exhibitors, products and topics, save a personal schedule and view the interactive hall map. The app also stores tickets and supports appointment planning. Download it and sign in before reaching the entrance, then screenshot the first three destinations in case mobile service becomes slow inside a busy hall.
Build each half-day around one side of the site. The free IAA shuttle follows an 11-stop loop linking the halls and outdoor area, but it is better for a planned cross-site move than for repeated backtracking. Leave time between appointments for queues, conversations and walking.
Can visitors book IAA Transportation test drives?
IAA says 84 vehicles from 17 exhibitors are available for 2026 test drives, up from 60 in 2024. The list includes battery-electric, hydrogen and low-emission diesel commercial vehicles. Some demonstrations use a secured track; road-legal vehicles may run on public roads.
Availability is not the same as a guaranteed walk-up place. Use the app to identify participating exhibitors and ask the relevant stand about its current registration process. The automated-driving and telematics demonstrations are arranged through participating booths, which then direct visitors to the vehicle.
Do not organize the entire day around a test drive that has not been confirmed. Keep a nearby hall or conference session as the immediate alternative.
Is the weekend suitable for children?
Saturday and Sunday are the designated Family and Drivers Weekend. The Family Adventure Pass covers up to two adults and three children for one weekend entry. Children under six enter free, while older children require admission through the family pass or another valid ticket.
The fairground is large and the displays include full-size commercial vehicles. Decide in advance which halls matter, use the shuttle for one deliberate move, and allow a quiet break rather than attempting every section. Sunday closes two hours earlier than Saturday.

Bag checks take place at every entrance. The organizer bans weapons, knives and other sharp or dangerous objects, but its visitor FAQ does not publish a universal bag-size limit. Bring a compact bag and check any exhibitor or conference instructions tied to a separate invitation.
Luggage storage and pre-check-in are available at Entrance West 1 from 8:30 to 18:30 during September 14 to 20, according to the current visitor FAQ. The fair's broader arrival page still contains some luggage-service dates from 2024, so use the current FAQ for the operating window and confirm paid airport-transfer services directly before relying on them.
Accessible toilets are available in every hall. Limited wheelchairs can be borrowed from the first-aid station at North 1 or fleet management. Messe/Nord has level boarding, and lines 8 and 18 have wheelchair spaces. The on-site shuttle is described as largely barrier-free, not universally step-free, so a visitor with a specific access requirement should ask the organizer about the exact stop and vehicle.
A practical one-day schedule
- Arrive 20 to 30 minutes before the first fixed appointment.
- Enter through the gate closest to the first two saved halls.
- Cover the primary subject area before lunch.
- Use the shuttle once if the second area is on the other side of the grounds.
- Put one conference session or confirmed demonstration in the afternoon.
- Leave the final hour for the most useful follow-up, not an extra lap of the halls.
Trade visitors should exchange contact details as the meeting happens and add one sentence about the discussion. The app has lead-scanning tools, but a plain note linked to a name remains useful if either person's event profile is incomplete.
