Boardmasters 2026 guide: camping, travel, tickets and app

Boardmasters runs from Wednesday, August 5 to Sunday, August 9, 2026, across two separate Newquay sites. Watergate Bay has the music arena and campsites. Fistral Beach has the surf competition, beach bar and shopping village, and is free to visit from Wednesday to Sunday.

That split matters more than the lineup when you plan the trip. Decide which ticket you have, where you are sleeping, how you will reach Watergate Bay, and whether Fistral fits into the same day. The festival shuttle connects both sides through Newquay, but it does not drop directly on Fistral Beach.

This guide was checked on August 1, 2026. Transport, weather, set times and gate instructions can change during event week, so recheck the linked official pages before leaving.

Understand the two Boardmasters sites first

Boardmasters is not one continuous festival field.

Watergate Bay is the ticketed music and camping site

The main arena, stages and campsites are at Watergate Bay. A camping ticket gives access to the campsite and arena for the dates printed on the ticket. A day or three-day no-camping ticket covers the arena only and does not provide campsite access, even if accommodation was booked separately.

The cliff and beach terrain also changes the practical plan. The arena and campsites are mainly grass with uneven ground, and adverse weather can make it muddy. Pack for a field site rather than a town-centre concert.

Fistral Beach is the free surf side

Boardmasters at Fistral Beach is free and open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday. It includes the Boardmasters Open surf competition, Surf Deck, beach bar and shopping village. Normal Fistral businesses remain accessible, although roads and parking are restricted during the event.

The festival shuttle stops at Manor Road, about a 20-minute walk from Fistral Beach. It also stops at Newquay Train Station and Watergate Bay. Build that walk into your timing rather than treating Fistral as another stage inside the music site.

Choose the ticket by sleeping plan and arrival day

Do not buy a ticket based only on the number of music days. Camping access, first entry and re-entry differ.

The official ticket page says day-ticket holders must enter by 8pm and cannot re-enter. A three-day no-camping ticket allows re-entry before 8pm, but it still does not provide campsite access.

Weekend campers exchange the ticket for a wristband and can leave and return. The current official ticket and essential-information pages show different evening cutoffs for campsite entry, so use the time in your ticket email and contact the ticket team if your arrival is close to the cutoff. Do not assume that the arena closing time is also the campsite check-in time.

Ticket names must match the attendee's photographic ID. The organizer lists SEE Tickets, Big Green Coach and Tixel as its authorized routes, with Tixel as the official resale platform. A screenshot or social-media resale does not transfer a barcode safely.

Age and ID rules

Anyone aged 16 or over needs a full-price admission ticket. Children aged 6 to 12 need a child ticket, while ages 13 to 15 need a teen ticket. Under-16s must be accompanied by someone aged 21 or over, and each adult can accompany no more than two under-16s.

Bring the original photographic ID named in the admission terms. The ticket holder's name must match it. Do not plan around a photo of a passport or an informal promise that security may not ask. The official terms allow age and identity checks at entry.

A realistic arrival plan

Before travel

1. Assign every entry ticket to the correct attendee.
2. Download the e-ticket and official app before reaching Newquay.
3. Reserve long-distance rail seats or confirm the coach booking.
4. Buy parking and shuttle wristbands in advance if your route needs them.
5. Save the site map, tent location plan and return journey offline.
6. Agree on a meeting point that does not depend on phone service.

When you reach Newquay

Train passengers can join the festival shuttle at Newquay station. Coach passengers should follow the operator's arrival instructions rather than walking toward a saved map pin. Drivers must follow AA and Boardmasters signs to Green Gate, not the final route suggested by sat nav.

Campers should pitch before starting a Fistral trip or exploring the arena. If friends want tents together, arrive together. Some reserved and upgraded camping areas allocate pitches when the group arrives and cannot hold an adjacent space for people arriving later.

On Monday morning

Campsites must be vacated by noon on Monday, August 10. Newquay rail services are expected to be busiest on the return day, and a station queue system is planned. Pack the night before, keep the train ticket available without searching through luggage, and do not book a tight onward connection.

Getting to Boardmasters by train

Newquay trains connect with Great Western Railway services, commonly through Par. The festival shuttle runs from Newquay station to Watergate Bay.

GWR's current Boardmasters travel guidance requires reservations for travel to Newquay. Additional festival information says long-distance services toward Par and Newquay require reservations, while the Par to Newquay branch does not. Direct Paddington to Newquay trains are planned from Wednesday to Friday, with extra return services on Monday.

Pack only what you can carry. Current rail guidance says trolleys and sack trucks are not permitted, space is limited and surfboards cannot travel on long-distance services. Check the complete journey in the GWR app or website on departure day because festival services affect ordinary Devon and Cornwall timetables too.

Boardmasters shuttle times and stops

The official festival shuttle runs a continuous loop between:

• Watergate Bay music site
• Newquay Train Station
• Manor Road Bus Stop, about a 20-minute walk from Fistral Beach

The organizer lists a multi-use festival shuttle wristband from £15. Check the official booking page rather than an older visitor guide, as some pages still show previous-year prices.

The late Friday to Sunday service is useful after the music, but it is not a guaranteed instant transfer. Leave time for queues and the walk from the arena. Save the stop name and a fallback taxi number before the evening starts.

Coach, car, taxi and airport options

Coach

Big Green Coach is the official coach partner. It offers weekend travel from 87 UK pickup points and local day-return services from 13 locations. Camper services travel out on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday and return Monday. A coach is usually simpler than combining a train, shuttle and heavy camping kit, but confirm the luggage allowance before packing.

Car and parking

Festival parking must be booked in advance. Follow event signs to Green Gate instead of using sat nav for the final approach. Pickup and drop-off also use Green Gate, while taxis drop at Blue Gate beside the shuttle station.

Sleeping in the car park is not an alternative to a camping ticket. The event terms prohibit camping in car parks and sleeping in vehicles. A no-camping ticket plus a parking pass does not create overnight accommodation.

The Boardmasters traffic page still directs visitors to wait for some 2026 detail. For live conditions, check the festival's official channels and Transport for Cornwall rather than relying on an old traffic map.

Local buses

Transport for Cornwall service updates show event diversions from 6am on August 5 to 2pm on August 10. Route 56 will not serve Porth, Whipsiderry, Watergate Bay or Tregurrian. Route 92 will not serve Treloy Holiday Park or RAF St Mawgan, with Trebarber RAF St Mawgan Turning listed as the nearest stop.

Several other Newquay services may be delayed by congestion. Search the route again on the morning of travel, even if you use it regularly.

Cornwall Airport Newquay

The airport is close to the festival, but there is no direct airside transfer. The organizer recommends a taxi to the site. Book the return in advance if your flight is early or close to Monday's campsite departure rush.

Boardmasters camping without the avoidable mistakes

General camping includes drinking water, toilets, campsite hubs and 24-hour campsite managers. Showers cost extra. Salt and Spray adds hot showers, flushing toilets and a grooming area, but it is an add-on to general camping rather than a separate campsite.

Bring a tent sized for the people using it and a mallet, not a hammer. Gazebos, awnings and trailer tents are prohibited. Cooking is also prohibited, including barbecues, camping stoves and petrol cookers. Plan food that can be eaten cold or budget for onsite traders instead of packing equipment that security will remove.

Weekend campers aged 18 or over may bring their personal alcohol allowance into the campsite on first entry only. The current limit is either up to 24 cans of beer, lager, cider or alcopops at 7% ABV or less, or up to two bottles of wine at 12% ABV or less decanted out of glass. Spirits, glass and stronger drinks are prohibited. Check the current essential information before packing because security searches apply on entry and re-admittance.

The main arena has stricter rules than the campsite. Bags larger than A4, campsite food and drink, camping chairs, golf umbrellas and selfie sticks are not allowed in the arena. An empty reusable plastic water bottle of 500ml or less is permitted. Medical exceptions need supporting information.

Fistral Beach travel and surf planning

Fistral works best as a deliberate daytime visit, not an improvised detour between music sets. Use Manor Road for the festival shuttle, then allow about 20 minutes to walk to the beach. Headland Road is restricted to most vehicles during the event, and there is no normal festival parking at Fistral.

Surf schedules depend on conditions. Check the official Fistral and app updates before walking over, then follow the beach flag system and lifeguard instructions. RNLI lifeguards are scheduled from 10am to 6pm at Fistral, Watergate Bay and other named local beaches, with extra festival coverage. Outside patrol hours, no flags means no lifeguard service.

Do not use Whipsiderry Beach as a shortcut. The event's current safety guidance says recent cliff falls and tides make it unsafe to access. If someone is in trouble in the water, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard rather than entering after them.

Use the Boardmasters app, but make an offline backup

The official Boardmasters app is current for 2026 on iPhone and Android. It provides the lineup, personal schedule, notifications, venue maps and a pin to help find a tent.

Set it up before arrival. Some features require an account and internet connection, and background location can use more battery. Then save these separately:

• Ticket or barcode in the format permitted by the issuer
• Current map and shuttle stops
• Personal schedule and two must-see set times
• Tent pin plus a written campsite landmark
• Return train, coach or taxi details
• Group meeting point and time

A tent pin is useful, but it should not be the only way you know where you are sleeping. Take a daylight photo showing the nearest numbered lane, hub or fixed landmark.

Weather, coast and what to pack

Check the Met Office Fistral forecast on the day you travel. The exposed coast can feel different from inland Newquay, and dry weather does not remove wind, sun or uneven-ground risks.

A practical packing list includes:

• Waterproof jacket and warm layer
• Suncream in a permitted liquid form
• Refillable 500ml plastic bottle for the arena
• Sturdy footwear and spare dry socks
• Ear protection
• Charged power bank and cable
• Original photographic ID
• Medication in original packaging with supporting documents where needed
• Offline ticket, map and return route
• Tent repair items that comply with the prohibited-items list

Safety, welfare and accessibility

Boardmasters has 24-hour campsite welfare, security and campsite hubs, with arena welfare during opening hours. Save 999 for emergencies and ask for the Coastguard for a sea rescue. Agree on a group meeting point before entering the arena, especially if anyone is under 18.

The access-request deadline was July 20, 2026, so it has already passed. Visitors with an approved request should use the information pack sent by the organizer. Anyone with a late access problem should contact the Boardmasters accessibility team directly rather than assuming a Blue Badge alone provides access parking.

The main site has uneven grass and no hard-standing route through most arena and camping areas. Approved facilities include accessible camping, accessible toilets and showers, a Changing Places unit, medical-equipment charging and medication refrigeration. Fistral is open to the public, but vehicle access and parking are restricted. Confirm the exact drop-off plan with the access team.

Phone, payment and data planning

Boardmasters is cashless. Bars, food traders and other onsite vendors accept cards and contactless payments, and there are no ATMs. Keep a physical bank card separate from the phone so one flat battery does not remove both payment options.

The organizer warns that mobile reception varies by network and location. Free Wi-Fi is planned at named hubs around the arena and campsites, but that does not make every field or queue a reliable connection point. Download tickets, maps and set times first.
