Delta adds Boston-Venice and Detroit-Athens flights for 2027

Delta plans two new seasonal nonstop routes for 2027: Boston to Venice four times a week from May 7 through October 29, and Detroit to Athens three times a week from June 8 through October 28. The airline confirmed both routes in its latest Europe schedule update.

These are future schedules, not flights operating now. Delta's announcement does not give flight numbers or departure times. Search your exact date in the airline's booking flow before arranging a feeder flight, hotel, train or cruise around either service.

Delta says both aircraft will offer Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main. A cabin name in the announcement does not guarantee a particular seat, fare condition or aircraft assignment on your date.

What changes for Boston and Detroit travelers?

The Boston route gives New England travelers another nonstop option to northern Italy. Delta says Boston will be its third US gateway to Venice and that nearly 20 US destinations can connect through Boston. Its route announcement also says Boston-Milan will increase to daily service in 2027.

Detroit-Athens will be the first nonstop link between those airports, according to the same announcement. Delta describes Detroit as its fourth US gateway to Athens and says the hub can connect travelers from more than 40 US destinations.

Those connection counts describe network reach, not a promise that every city will have a practical same-day itinerary. Compare the full booking, including the layover, terminal instructions and baggage handling, before choosing a short connection.

Book the route, not just the destination

Start with the exact airport pair. Venice Marco Polo uses the code VCE, while Athens International uses ATH. A search for Italy or Greece can surface other gateways, connecting services or codeshares that are not these new nonstops.

Then check the operating airline, aircraft and cabin for every leg. Delta has announced an A330-300 for Boston-Venice and an A330-200 for Detroit-Athens, but schedules and aircraft assignments can change before departure. If a particular cabin or seat is important, verify it on the seat map before paying and again after schedule updates.

Do not build a tight separate-ticket connection around an unpublished time. One reservation can offer more protection when a delay breaks the itinerary. Separate tickets may require you to collect bags, check in again and absorb the cost of a missed onward trip.

It says no action is required yet, so avoid unofficial application sites while the start date remains pending.

Plan the first trip after landing

Venice Marco Polo Airport lists bus links to Piazzale Roma and Venezia Mestre, along with water transport to Venice. Check the airport's current transport page before relying on a late connection. A delayed transatlantic arrival can make a same-day train, ferry or cruise booking harder to protect.

Athens International Airport advises passengers to monitor live flight details and current airport procedures. If you are continuing to an island on a separate air or ferry ticket, leave enough time for immigration, baggage and the transfer to the relevant port or terminal.
