Delta plans to start nonstop flights between Salt Lake City and Flagstaff on June 7, 2027. The route is scheduled to run twice a day throughout the year, adding a new Delta connection into northern Arizona.

That makes Flagstaff easier to reach from Delta's network, but this remains future service. Delta's announcement does not publish flight numbers or departure times, so those details need to come from the live booking result for the travel date.

The practical answer: Delta has announced two daily, year-round round trips between Salt Lake City and Flagstaff from June 7, 2027. SkyWest Airlines is due to operate them as Delta Connection flights using a CRJ-550. Search the exact date before arranging hotels, rental cars or a tight connection because the announcement does not include flight times.

This guide was checked on October 2, 2026, the day after Delta announced the route.

The route is planned for June 2027

Delta's October 1 announcement sets out the core plan:

Route detailAnnounced plan
RouteSalt Lake City (SLC) to Flagstaff (FLG)
Start dateJune 7, 2027
FrequencyTwice daily in each direction
SeasonYear-round
Operating carrierSkyWest Airlines for Delta Connection
AircraftCRJ-550

The announcement confirms the route, date, frequency and aircraft, but not the flight numbers, local times, fare levels or first day's operating sequence. A timetable displayed in Delta's booking system for the exact date is the better planning document once a traveler is ready to buy.

An announced route can still change before launch. Keep any nonrefundable hotel, car or tour decision separate until the flight is ticketed, and recheck the itinerary as June 2027 approaches.

Salt Lake City becomes the connecting point

The new flight is most useful to travelers who can reach Salt Lake City on Delta and continue to Flagstaff on the same booking. A through ticket normally keeps the connection inside one itinerary and gives the airline control of rebooking if an inbound delay breaks it.

Salt Lake City International Airport has one terminal complex with Concourses A and B. Use the airport's current terminal map and the Delta app on the day rather than assuming both gates will be close. The airport also lists Delta check-in in the Gateway Center and curbside service on the west end of the departure roadway in its airport services guide.

A short legal connection is not the same as a relaxed one. Gate distance, boarding cutoff, weather and a late inbound flight all matter. On separate tickets, allow much more time because the second booking may not be protected.

CRJ-550 baggage needs a day-of-travel check

Delta's carry-on baggage policy allows one carry-on bag and one personal item. Its published carry-on size is no more than 22 by 14 by 9 inches, including handles and wheels.

The same policy warns that limited overhead space on Delta Connection flights can lead to bags being checked at the gate. Keep medication, travel documents, keys and essential electronics in the personal item, and follow the tag and collection instructions given at boarding.

Checked-bag inclusion and fees depend on the fare, route, status and card benefits. Read the allowance shown in the booking rather than treating a general baggage page as a price quote for this flight.

Leave time for check-in at Flagstaff

Flagstaff Pulliam Airport's passenger FAQ advises arriving at least 90 minutes before a flight. Delta's broader domestic check-in guidance recommends arriving two hours before departure. It also says most domestic checked bags must be accepted at least 45 minutes before departure, passengers without checked bags must check in at least 30 minutes before, and everyone must be at the gate 15 minutes before departure.

Following the two-hour recommendation gives more room for parking, bag acceptance and security. The issued itinerary and any airport-specific alert remain the final checks.

For identification, use the current TSA acceptable ID list. Since May 7, 2025, a noncompliant state license is not accepted as standard checkpoint ID. A passport is one listed alternative, including for a foreign visitor taking a domestic US flight.

Flagstaff is closer to Sedona, but transport still needs planning

Delta describes Sedona as about 50 minutes from Flagstaff. Visit Sedona's trip-planning page says airport shuttles operate from Flagstaff and notes that the area has only two main road approaches, so traffic and seasonal conditions can change the drive.

Flagstaff airport lists rental-car counters in the terminal, plus current taxi, private-car and shuttle contacts on its ground transportation page. It recommends reserving a rental car before arrival because counter hours vary.

Do not assume a late arrival will line up with a rental desk or shuttle. Confirm the provider, pickup point, operating hours and cancellation terms before relying on it.

The Grand Canyon South Rim is a separate road journey

Delta describes the South Rim as about 90 minutes from Flagstaff. The National Park Service's South Rim directions place it 81 miles from Flagstaff and list three possible driving routes.

Road conditions, entrance queues and the chosen gate can change the real travel time. The park's shuttle system moves visitors around the South Rim, but it does not turn FLG into an airport terminal at the canyon. The NPS shuttle page also shows that routes and hours vary by season and can be suspended in bad weather.

Download the park map for offline use, check the live NPS alerts, and avoid tying an arrival flight to a tour with no recovery time.

Mobile data for a northern Arizona trip

Compare the live United States OpenSim eSIM if the trip includes Flagstaff, Sedona or the Grand Canyon. A compatible plan can help with airline alerts, rental-car messages, maps and park updates after landing.

OpenSim's public catalog was checked on October 2, 2026. Confirm the selected plan's allowance, validity, network, speed policy, hotspot support and top-up eligibility before paying. Not every plan is reloadable, and mobile coverage can be weaker on remote roads or inside the park.

Install the eSIM on reliable Wi-Fi before the trip and follow the selected package's activation rule. Mobile data does not replace offline maps, emergency preparation or the airline's own notification channel.

Ten questions about Delta Salt Lake City-Flagstaff flights

When do Delta's Salt Lake City-Flagstaff flights start?

Delta plans to begin the route on June 7, 2027. Because it is future service, recheck the booking and flight status before making a nonrefundable arrangement around the first weeks of operation.

Will Delta fly to Flagstaff every day?

Yes, under the announced plan. Delta says the route will operate twice daily in each direction and throughout the year. The exact selection can still vary by date in the live schedule.

What are the flight numbers and times?

Delta's October 1 announcement does not publish them. Use Delta's booking result and the issued itinerary for the exact travel date rather than copying an unconfirmed timetable from a third party.

Which airline will operate the flights?

SkyWest Airlines is due to operate them for Delta Connection. The planned aircraft is a CRJ-550, so the ticket may show Delta branding alongside the operating-carrier detail.

Can I book the new route now?

Search SLC to FLG on Delta for the intended date. The announcement establishes the route plan but does not promise that every June 2027 date is already loaded or available at a particular fare.

Is a short Delta connection at Salt Lake City enough?

It depends on the gates, inbound reliability and whether both flights are on one ticket. Check the terminal map and choose more time if missing the Flagstaff flight would disrupt a fixed tour or accommodation booking.

Will my carry-on fit on the CRJ-550?

Do not count on overhead space. Delta permits a carry-on and personal item under its general rule, but it warns that some Delta Connection bags may be checked at the gate. Keep essentials in the smaller item.

Can I rent a car at Flagstaff airport?

Yes. The airport lists several rental-car agencies in the terminal and advises booking ahead because operating hours vary. Confirm that the desk will be open for the scheduled arrival.

How do I reach Sedona from Flagstaff airport?

Rental car, shuttle, taxi and private-car services are available. Delta describes Sedona as about 50 minutes away, but traffic, weather and the exact destination can change that estimate.

Can I reach the Grand Canyon without a car?

Commercial shuttle or tour options may be available, and NPS notes connecting bus service from Flagstaff. Reserve the full transfer in advance and check seasonal schedules. The free park shuttles operate inside and around the South Rim; they are not an airport transfer from FLG.

Before booking

  • Search the exact June 2027 date in Delta's booking system.
  • Confirm that the itinerary says FLG, not a marketing reference to Grand Canyon Village.
  • Check the operating carrier and CRJ-550 aircraft note.
  • Prefer one protected booking for a connection through SLC.
  • Leave more than the minimum connection if the next day's plan is fixed.
  • Read the fare's checked-bag allowance and keep essentials in a personal item.
  • Reserve a rental car or shuttle before arriving at FLG.
  • Check road and park alerts before driving to Sedona or the South Rim.
  • Save the itinerary, transfer booking and offline maps on the phone.
  • Recheck the flight status before leaving for the airport.

Source check for the Salt Lake City-Flagstaff route

Delta's newsroom supports the June 7, 2027 start, twice-daily year-round plan, SkyWest operation and CRJ-550. Delta's passenger pages support the baggage and check-in guidance. Flagstaff Pulliam Airport supports the airport-arrival and ground-transport details, while TSA supports the identification advice.

Salt Lake City International Airport supports the terminal and check-in references. The National Park Service and Visit Sedona support the onward-travel guidance. Public traveler discussions were used to select questions about short SLC connections, regional-jet bags, rental cars and car-free travel. They were not treated as authority for the route, timetable, airport rules or transport availability.

We will update this guide when Delta publishes flight numbers and local times, opens or changes the operating schedule, or materially changes the launch date, frequency, aircraft or baggage guidance.
