Thai AirAsia X resumed nonstop flights between Bangkok Don Mueang and Sapporo New Chitose on October 1, 2026. The first October timetable runs four days a week, and AirAsia plans to increase Sapporo service to as many as seven flights a week from December 1.

The route is useful for a Hokkaido trip, but the midnight departure, airport code and low-cost fare all deserve a careful check before booking.

The practical answer: XJ620 leaves Don Mueang for New Chitose at 01:55 during the first October schedule, while XJ621 returns at 12:20. The initial pattern is Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Times change after October 24, and AirAsia says the route can rise to as many as seven weekly flights from December 1, so search the exact date before arranging a train, hotel or separate connection.

This guide was checked on October 3, 2026, after the route resumed.

The October timetable changes on October 25

AirAsia's September 22 route announcement says Don Mueang-Sapporo service resumed on October 1 with up to four flights a week. Current booking results show the direct XJ620 on sale, and the launch-period timetable is:

Travel datesDaysXJ620 Bangkok to SapporoXJ621 Sapporo to Bangkok
October 1 to 24Tue, Thu, Sat, Sun01:55 to 11:0512:20 to 17:45
From October 25Check the selected date01:50 to 10:4011:55 to 18:05

All times are local. Sapporo is two hours ahead of Bangkok. The displayed flight time already accounts for the time difference, so do not add another two hours to the arrival.

The second row reflects the winter timetable loaded for dates after October 24. AirAsia says the Sapporo route is planned to increase to a maximum of seven weekly flights from December 1, but that does not make every future date guaranteed. Confirm the operating day and time in the live booking flow before paying.

XJ620 leaves from Don Mueang, not Suvarnabhumi

The Bangkok airport code on this route is DMK. It is Don Mueang International Airport, not Suvarnabhumi Airport, whose code is BKK. Airports of Thailand's airline directory lists Thai AirAsia X under code XJ at Passenger Terminal 1.

Thai AirAsia X also says its international check-in counters at Don Mueang are on Level 3 of Terminal 1 and open three hours before departure. For the 01:55 XJ620, that means the airport process begins late on the previous calendar day. Put the check-in date in the calendar as well as the flight date.

A connection involving BKK requires an airport change across Bangkok. Immigration, baggage collection, road traffic and a new check-in can turn a short-looking gap into a missed flight. A separate ticket does not become protected because both results appeared in the same search.

CTS means New Chitose, not Okadama

The Sapporo code on this route is CTS, meaning New Chitose Airport. It is not Okadama Airport in the city. International arrivals must still clear immigration, collect checked baggage and pass customs before reaching public transport.

JR Hokkaido's official airport train guide lists a fastest journey of 33 minutes between New Chitose Airport and Sapporo. Most seats do not need a reservation, and IC cards including Suica, ICOCA, PASMO and Kitaca are accepted for the basic trip.

The same guide says some Airport trains continue to Otaru, but not all of them do. Travelers heading toward Niseko must change at Otaru, and IC cards cannot be used beyond Otaru on that route. Check the train destination and the final transfer instead of treating Sapporo, Otaru and Niseko as one stop.

The two cabin pieces share one 7 kg limit

AirAsia's current cabin baggage policy allows one cabin bag and one small personal item with a combined weight of no more than 7 kg. The larger piece may measure up to 56 by 36 by 23 cm. The smaller item may measure up to 40 by 30 by 10 cm and must fit under the seat.

The personal item does not receive a separate 7 kg allowance. A laptop, camera and duty-free purchases can push the combined weight over the limit even when the suitcase alone is compliant.

Checked baggage depends on the bundle or add-on shown in the booking. Compare the complete fare after adding the bag, seat and meal actually needed. Do not infer the allowance from another AirAsia airline or a previous ticket.

Online check-in may not finish every airport step

AirAsia encourages advance check-in through its website or app, but an international passenger may still need a document check, boarding-pass verification or bag drop. Follow the deadline shown for the XJ booking and arrive early enough for the passport and entry-document review.

Keep the booking available offline. If a passport name, document or baggage issue needs attention, resolving it before the counter closes is more useful than reaching the terminal just before boarding.

For a separate connection at DMK, check whether the bags are tagged through and whether the itinerary is on one protected booking. With two booking references, plan for immigration and a new check-in whenever the airport or airline requires it.

Prepare both arrival forms from official sites

Japan's Digital Agency describes Visit Japan Web as an online service for immigration and customs arrival procedures. It is not a visa and does not determine whether a traveler may enter Japan. Check the passport-specific entry rules separately and save any generated code where it can be opened without airport Wi-Fi.

On the return, Thailand Immigration says non-Thai nationals entering the country must submit the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within the three days before arrival, including the arrival date. A traveler remaining in international transit without passing immigration does not need the form. The TDAC is not a visa.

Use the government domains linked above. Entry rules and airline document checks can change independently of the timetable.

Winter frequency brings a different planning risk

AirAsia's planned increase from four weekly flights to as many as seven from December 1 gives winter travelers more date choices. It does not remove weather risk. Snow can affect flights, airport trains and road transfers to ski areas, sometimes at the same time.

If a Niseko bus, domestic flight or separate international ticket cannot be moved easily, leave recovery time after arrival. On the return, work backward from the XJ621 check-in requirement and add a winter margin to the trip from outside Sapporo.

Travelers comparing this route with the resumed Thai AirAsia X Bangkok-Nagoya service should choose the airport that fits the actual itinerary. Nagoya is not an alternative airport for Hokkaido, and a lower fare there can create a much longer onward journey.

Mobile data across the Bangkok-Hokkaido journey

For a Hokkaido-focused trip, compare the live Japan OpenSim eSIM. For time in Bangkok or elsewhere in Thailand, use the Thailand OpenSim eSIM.

Travelers who need mobile data in both countries can also compare the Asia 12 Areas OpenSim eSIM. Its current coverage includes Japan and Thailand, so one compatible regional plan may be simpler than switching plans after each flight.

OpenSim's public catalog was checked on October 3. Review the selected plan's allowance, validity, speed policy, hotspot support, networks and top-up eligibility before buying. Not every plan can be topped up.

Mobile data can help with flight alerts, arrival forms, train status and pickup messages after landing. It does not provide inflight coverage, establish entry permission or protect a missed connection.

Ten questions about Thai AirAsia X Bangkok-Sapporo flights

Is Thai AirAsia X flying from Bangkok to Sapporo now?

Yes. AirAsia says the Don Mueang-Sapporo route resumed on October 1, 2026, and current booking results show direct XJ620 flights for October dates. Check the selected date because the frequency and times change during the season.

Which days do XJ620 and XJ621 operate in October?

The initial October pattern is Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The first timetable runs through October 24. Search dates after the winter schedule change rather than assuming the same pattern continues unchanged.

What time do the Bangkok-Sapporo flights leave?

Through October 24, XJ620 is scheduled from Don Mueang at 01:55 and XJ621 from New Chitose at 12:20. From October 25, the loaded times change to 01:50 outbound and 11:55 inbound. All times are local.

Does the Bangkok flight use DMK or BKK?

It uses Don Mueang, code DMK. Suvarnabhumi is BKK and is a different airport. Confirm DMK before arranging a taxi, hotel or connecting flight.

Which Sapporo airport does Thai AirAsia X use?

The route uses New Chitose Airport, code CTS. New Chitose is the main international gateway for Sapporo and has an airport railway station. Okadama is a different airport.

What is Thai AirAsia X's cabin-bag limit?

AirAsia allows one cabin bag and one small personal item sharing a combined 7 kg limit. Check the size and weight of both pieces together, and use the current booking for any purchased upgrade.

Is checked baggage included with Thai AirAsia X?

That depends on the bundle and add-ons selected. Read the allowance in the booking before comparing fares. A low headline price may not include the checked bag needed for a winter trip.

Which train runs from CTS to central Sapporo?

JR Airport trains run directly to Sapporo, with the fastest journey listed at 33 minutes. Most seats are unreserved, while the reserved car needs an additional reservation. Allow time for immigration and baggage before choosing a train.

Do I need Visit Japan Web or a Thailand arrival card?

Visit Japan Web can prepare Japan's immigration and customs arrival procedures, but it is not a visa. Non-Thai nationals entering Thailand generally need the TDAC within three days before arrival. Check both official sites for the current rules that apply to the trip.

Can one OpenSim plan cover Thailand and Japan?

Yes, if the selected regional plan explicitly lists both countries. The current Asia 12 Areas product does. Compare its allowance, validity and speed policy with separate Japan and Thailand plans before choosing.

Before booking

  • Confirm DMK in Bangkok and CTS in Sapporo.
  • Search the exact date because times change after October 24.
  • Put the previous evening's check-in in the calendar for XJ620.
  • Price checked baggage and other extras before comparing fares.
  • Weigh both cabin pieces together against the 7 kg limit.
  • Check Japan and Thailand entry requirements for the passport used.
  • Allow for immigration before a train or onward flight.
  • Avoid a tight, unprotected airport change between DMK and BKK.
  • Add winter recovery time for a ski-area transfer.
  • Save the booking, arrival forms and transport details offline.

Source check for the Bangkok-Sapporo route

AirAsia's newsroom supports the October 1 resumption, initial frequency and planned December increase. Its live route page supports current direct sales. Current timetable sources support XJ620 and XJ621, the October operating pattern, local times and the October 25 change.

AirAsia and Airports of Thailand support the Don Mueang, terminal and cabin-baggage guidance. JR Hokkaido supports the airport train information. Japan's Digital Agency and Thailand Immigration support the arrival-procedure guidance.

Public traveler discussions were used to select practical questions about the 7 kg limit, DMK connections, New Chitose trains, winter transfers and arrival forms. They were not treated as authority for airline, airport or immigration policy.

We will update this guide if Thai AirAsia X changes the route's frequency, timetable, terminal, baggage or check-in policy, or if either country changes the arrival process.
