Dialog says 5G roaming now reaches 100 destinations
Dialog Axiata announced on September 7, 2026 that its 5G roaming footprint now covers 100 destinations through 200 partner networks. That doubles the 50-plus destination footprint the Sri Lankan operator announced in 2023.
There is one important catch for travelers planning a trip today. Dialog's public 4G and 5G country list currently shows 79 destinations with a visible 5G label, not 100. Its main roaming page still says 5G is available in 70-plus countries. Dialog has not explained the difference or published a new 100-destination list.
The traveler answer: Treat the 100-destination figure as Dialog's announced network footprint, not as proof that your phone and plan will receive 5G everywhere. Check the live country list, open the plan for each stop, and confirm device and account settings before departure.
What Dialog announced
Dialog's September 7 release says customers can now access 5G roaming in 100 destinations using 200 partner networks. The announcement does not identify the newly added destinations, name the partners or list the plans that qualify.
The growth has been quick on paper. Dialog announced more than 50 destinations and more than 100 partners in 2023. A 2025 update put the footprint at 70 countries and 150 operators. The latest release raises those figures to 100 and 200.
Telecompaper reported the new milestone on September 8, but its brief report also does not provide the missing destination map.
Why Dialog's public pages show different numbers
We counted every row on Dialog's public 4G and 5G country list on September 8. The page displayed 113 named locations. Seventy-nine had a visible 5G label, while 34 showed 4G only.

The 79 count is a snapshot, not a claim that Dialog's announcement is wrong. The country page may be awaiting an update, Dialog may count destinations differently, or some partner networks may not yet appear in the public table. Dialog has not confirmed any of those explanations.
For now, the useful distinction is simple: 100 is the announced footprint, while 79 is the number a traveler can verify from the current public list.
Countries a traveler can verify today
The checked list visibly labels common outbound destinations such as India, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States as 5G. It also labels much of continental Europe and several markets across Asia and the Gulf.
Some destinations on the same page do not have a visible 5G label. They include Singapore, South Africa, Pakistan and Argentina. That does not mean ordinary roaming is unavailable there. It means the checked public page did not identify 5G for those rows.
If your destination is missing from the 5G column, ask Dialog to confirm the current partner and plan before buying an add-on. A screenshot of the live plan and country entry can also be useful if the public page changes during the trip.
What 5G roaming does not guarantee
A country appearing on a 5G list does not promise 5G in every city, airport, hotel or rural area. Your phone must support the local bands and roaming profile, the partner must allow 5G for the plan, and the visited network must have coverage at that location.
Network congestion and routing can also change the experience. A phone may display a 5G or LTE icon after registering with a partner but still fail to load data because the account, roaming setting or APN is wrong. The icon shows a radio connection, not proof that the entire data session works.
Dialog does not publish a minimum speed for the new footprint. The release also does not distinguish standalone from non-standalone 5G, guarantee priority treatment or provide measured roaming performance. Travelers should avoid turning the headline into a speed promise.
Checks to make before leaving Sri Lanka
Dialog's roaming tips tell customers to confirm that voice and data roaming are active and that the account has enough credit. For 4G and VoLTE, the phone needs VoLTE enabled, data roaming switched on and the correct APN.
Automatic partner selection should work in many cases. If it does not, Dialog advises trying manual network selection. Choose a partner listed for the destination rather than the first network that appears on screen.
Save the country list and support details offline. If the phone registers without usable data, restart it, toggle airplane mode once, confirm the correct SIM is selected for mobile data and recheck the APN. Avoid repeated network resets unless support recommends them, since a reset can remove saved settings.

Calls, texts and the validity clock need a plan check
Dialog's roaming service uses the customer's existing Sri Lankan line, which can be useful for calls, texts and one-time passwords. Inclusion and pricing still depend on the destination and plan. The 100-destination announcement does not make every call or SMS free.
Dialog's current roaming page says a plan's validity begins with first usage. That first use can be a call, text or data session, so a background connection or early message could start the clock before the traveler expects.
Prepaid roaming is described as already active. Postpaid users may need to activate it through Dialog's account tools, while corporate customers can require an administrator. The international roaming terms also say service and fees vary by country and operator and do not guarantee availability.
In-flight and maritime connections are separate. Dialog's additional roaming services cover selected airline, aircraft, route and partner combinations. A destination's terrestrial 5G label does not confirm coverage in the air or at sea.
Dialog roaming or a travel eSIM
Dialog roaming is the stronger fit when a customer wants to keep the Sri Lankan number active and prefers one carrier account for calls, SMS and data. It can also be the simpler option for a short trip when the exact destination plan and charges are clear.
A travel eSIM is a useful alternative when the trip is mainly about data, the traveler wants a published allowance and validity before departure, or a regional itinerary is easier to cover with one separate data profile. It does not automatically replace the home line's calls, SMS or one-time passwords.
The public Roaming eSIM catalog was checked on September 8. It listed 43 Japan packages starting at USD0.60, 16 India packages starting at USD0.82 and 19 United Arab Emirates packages starting at USD0.60. Those starting prices buy very small allowances, so they should not be mistaken for a typical full-trip cost.
For a clearer comparison, the checked catalog included 1GB for seven days at USD1.40 for Japan, USD3.86 for India and USD3.50 for the United Arab Emirates. Each example listed 3G, 4G and 5G capability and was eligible for top-up. Availability, operators, speed and final checkout prices can change.
