yallo Travel eSIM launches for 160-plus destinations
yallo has launched a separate travel eSIM for mobile data in more than 160 destinations. It is open to people in Switzerland regardless of their normal mobile provider, and no yallo subscription is required. Packages start from CHF 2.50 in the new yallo Travel app.
The first check is not the app. It is the roaming already included with the traveler's normal plan. Some yallo subscriptions already include data in Europe and selected destinations farther afield. Buying a second allowance only makes sense when it fills a real gap or costs less for the trip.
The traveler decision: Compare the trip against existing roaming first. If a separate package still fits, check the exact destination, allowance, validity, network details and seller terms in the app. The yallo travel profile is data only, so the home line must remain available for ordinary calls and SMS, but its data roaming should be controlled to avoid an unwanted bill.
What yallo launched on September 7
The yallo Travel page offers local, regional and global prepaid packages. It says coverage extends to more than 160 destinations and that anyone can use the service, including customers of another Swiss mobile provider.
The launch announcement gives three price examples: 10GB for 30 days in Japan at CHF 12, Thailand at CHF 10 and Serbia at CHF 15. It also says packages begin at CHF 2.50. Those were announced examples on September 7, 2026, not fixed price promises. The live app and checkout control the available package and final price.
Payment is prepaid and yallo says packages do not renew automatically. That reduces subscription risk, but it does not answer every buying question. Named partner networks, plan-level speed, 5G treatment and refund rules were not plainly displayed on the public landing page during our September 9 check.
Check included roaming before buying a second plan
The new product is most useful when a normal subscription has no suitable allowance at the destination. A traveler whose existing plan already covers the route could otherwise pay twice for data.
For example, yallo's current Travel Max plan page advertises roaming allowances in Europe, the United States, Canada and Türkiye, plus a separate allowance in 49 destinations. Other subscriptions have different rules. Read the current plan record, remaining allowance and fair-use terms instead of assuming that the plan name covers the whole journey.
The same comparison applies to customers of Sunrise, Swisscom, Salt or another provider. Calculate the full trip, including border crossings and airport connections, then compare a roaming pass, local SIM and travel eSIM on the same allowance and validity.
The purchase contract is with 1GLOBAL
yallo markets the product, but its landing page says the purchase contract is concluded directly with 1GLOBAL. That distinction matters if a traveler needs a refund, contests a charge or asks which service terms govern the data package.
The app-store trail has another layer. Apple's listing names Sunrise UPC GmbH as the seller. Google Play names Sunrise GmbH as the developer and points users to a Zappter support address and privacy page. These labels do not prove who will resolve a particular claim. They do mean a buyer should save the receipt, package screen, 1GLOBAL terms shown at checkout and the support contact supplied with the order.
Do not assume the general yallo mobile-plan terms automatically settle a travel eSIM dispute. Use the legal seller and product terms displayed for the actual purchase.
It is a data-only profile, not a second Swiss number
yallo describes the travel eSIM as mobile data. The normal SIM remains responsible for carrier calls and SMS. Internet calling and messaging apps can use the travel data, but they do not create a local number or replace ordinary cellular calling.
A dual-SIM phone can keep both lines enabled. Set yallo Travel as the mobile-data line and disable mobile-data switching. If the home line must receive bank codes or calls, keep it active but turn off data roaming for that line. Carrier voice calls, voicemail and outgoing SMS may still cost money abroad.
Apple's travel eSIM guidance warns that a primary line can incur roaming charges even when a travel eSIM supplies mobile data. The phone must also be unlocked before another provider's profile can be used.
Activation starts on the first supported connection
yallo says validity begins when the travel eSIM first connects to a supported network at the destination, not when the package is bought. That makes installation before departure practical, provided the exact checkout terms say the same thing.
Install while dependable Wi-Fi and support are available. Label both lines, select the travel profile for data and take screenshots of the order and settings. Do not test the new line on a supported roaming network during a transit stop unless starting the validity clock there is intentional.

Hotspot is supported, but plan fields still matter
The public yallo FAQ says hotspot use is allowed. That is useful for a laptop or a second traveler, although sharing can consume an allowance quickly.
The landing page does not publish one universal tethering ceiling or plan-level network table. Check the package screen for any fair-use rule, speed treatment and supported operator before relying on it for remote work. A coverage count does not guarantee the same signal or technology in every destination.
The page also says an additional package can be purchased when more data is needed. 1GLOBAL describes later bundles on the same eSIM in its launch material, but the public yallo wording is less precise about whether every purchase attaches to the existing profile. Follow the order-specific installation instruction and do not delete a working profile until support confirms it is no longer needed.
Privacy terms span the app and the mobile network
Zappter's app privacy policy describes collection that can include account contact details, location, device information, IP address and app activity. Google Play says data is encrypted in transit and provides a deletion-request route.
1GLOBAL's privacy policy separately covers network identifiers, connection and usage records, identity and payment information. A traveler deciding whether to install the app should read both current notices rather than treating the store's short privacy panel as the entire data flow.
Compare yallo Travel with route-matched alternatives
yallo Travel is built for Swiss residents buying through a dedicated app. Its useful points are the 160-plus destination claim, first-connection activation, prepaid purchase and published hotspot support. Its main public-documentation weakness is the lack of exact plan-level network, speed and refund detail outside the purchase flow.
Roaming eSIM uses public route pages. Compare Europe, Asia 20 Areas, Global 120 Areas or Switzerland, depending on the itinerary. Open the selected card because allowance, validity, activation, hotspot support, network labels and reloadability can vary by package.
The Switzerland page is for someone visiting Switzerland, not a substitute for checking an outbound Swiss subscription. The regional and global pages are the relevant starting points for a multi-country departure from Switzerland.
