Dragon Con 2026 guide: badges, parade, hotels and MARTA

Dragon Con returns to downtown Atlanta from Thursday, September 3 through Monday, September 7, 2026. This is its 40th anniversary, spread across five host hotels and two AmericasMart buildings. The convention opens at 5 p.m. Thursday and runs around the clock until 5 p.m. Monday, but individual halls, badge pickup and guest activities have their own hours.

The short answer: collect the badge at the Courtland Grand before building a tight schedule. Add only the events you care about to the official app, learn the hotel skybridge and street crossings in daylight, and use Peachtree Center MARTA station for the convention core. Leave gaps. Crossing one hotel lobby can take longer than the map suggests.

Dragon Con 2026 dates and locations

The convention uses the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Hilton Atlanta, Courtland Grand, Atlanta Marriott Marquis and Westin Peachtree Plaza. AmericasMart Buildings 2 and 3 hold gaming, vendors, Comic and Pop Artist Alley activities.

The five hotels look close on a map. Inside, elevators, one-way crowd controls and queues change the real travel time. Allow at least one panel slot of margin when moving between distant buildings.

Badge pickup is at the Courtland Grand

Dragon Con does not mail badges. Advance buyers collect them in the Georgia Ballroom at the Courtland Grand with a photo ID and the email receipt containing the QR code.

Published pickup hours are:

Minors do not need ID for their own badge, but the official FAQ says they must be present. Picking up another adult's badge requires the owner's signed permission, a copy of government-issued ID and their barcode. Read the current FAQ before relying on a third-party pickup.

Load the QR email before joining the line. Keep a screenshot as a connectivity backup, but retain the original email because staff may need the booking record.

Use the official schedule app without overplanning

Dragon Con publishes digital resources and updates the schedule close to the event. First timers often worry that the app appears locked or incomplete. That does not mean the membership is missing. It means the final schedule has not been released or synced yet.

When it opens:

1. Add the three to five guests or tracks that matter most.
2. Mark one priority event per time block.
3. Add a backup in the same hotel or nearby building.
4. Save the venue map and your daily shortlist offline.
5. Recheck room changes before leaving the current building.

Avoid filling every hour. Meals, elevators, badge checks and unexpected conversations are part of the weekend. A schedule with no gaps is mostly a list of things you will miss.

Panel lines and room capacity

Dragon Con policy says lines generally form only after the current panel has been seated. For the first panel of the day, a line may form up to two hours early. Staff instructions at the room take priority, and a membership does not guarantee entry when a room reaches capacity.

For a high-demand guest, arrive at the hotel early, find the room, then ask staff where and when the line starts. Do not create an unofficial line in a corridor. Choose a backup panel before the queue decision, not after the room closes.

The Dragon Con parade on Saturday

The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 5 and is free to watch along the public route. It creates a different crowd from the badge-only convention, so streets and MARTA exits around downtown can fill well before the first group moves.

Choose a viewing block, arrive early and avoid standing at an intersection that staff need to keep clear. Families should agree on a fixed reunion point away from the curb. After the parade, wait for the first crowd surge to pass before crossing back toward the host hotels.

MARTA from Atlanta Airport and around the convention

MARTA's Red and Gold lines connect Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with downtown. Peachtree Center is the most useful station for the Hyatt, Marriott and nearby convention core. Civic Center can suit some northern hotel approaches, while Five Points provides transfers.

Check live rail service before boarding. Late-night frequency differs from daytime service, and Labor Day weekend work can change the normal pattern. Save the hotel entrance, not only its name. Large downtown hotels can have several doors on different streets.

Rideshare pickup becomes harder during the parade and late-night hotel crowds. Walk a block away only when the route is well lit, open and permitted. Do not chase a driver through a closed street while wearing a costume that restricts vision.

Host hotel or MARTA hotel?

A host hotel reduces travel time but adds elevator waits and constant convention traffic. A hotel near a MARTA station can be quieter and sometimes easier to enter, but it creates a late-night return decision.

Choose based on the actual schedule:

Hotel overbooking and room changes appear in current traveler discussions. Confirm the reservation directly, note the cancellation terms and keep a second nearby option. Do not pay a stranger for a room transfer without verifying the hotel's process.

Costumes, bags, food and breaks

The official policies cover weapons, props and behavior. Read them for the actual costume rather than using an old checklist. A prop that is allowed still needs to fit safely through stations, hotel doors and crowds.

Pack water, medication, a small repair kit, a power bank and one normal change of clothing if the day is long. Confirm whether the hotel will store a costume or bag before relying on it. AmericasMart security and convention areas can have separate entry controls.

Food lines peak at predictable times. Eat earlier or walk away from the busiest hotel lobby. Keep one quiet place on the plan. The convention runs continuously, but you do not have to.

Photo ops, autographs and extra costs

Most panels and convention events are included with the membership. The official FAQ says some workshops, tournament gaming, hotel rooms and certain autographs are not. Professional photo ops are sold separately through the official provider.

Read the time, location and refund terms before buying. A photo-op slot is not the same as a panel reservation. Leave travel time between the photo location and the next event.

Mobile data for Dragon Con

A United States Roaming eSIM can provide data for schedule updates, MARTA status, maps and group messages when connected to a supported US network. It cannot guarantee normal speed inside a packed hotel or parade crowd.

The public catalog showed 37 US plans on August 22. Current cards expose allowance, validity, retail price, network label and top-up status. Current US listings include plans that name AT&T and Verizon, but coverage varies by package and place. Check the selected card. Stay there for frequent late-night events or difficult costumes. A direct MARTA hotel can suit daytime visitors who value a quieter base.

It may slow in dense rooms. Save the schedule, maps and reunion point offline, then use data for changes rather than as the only plan.

A workable first day

Collect the badge, walk the hotel route before dark, eat before the evening rush and attend one priority panel. Learn how long the buildings take before committing to a packed Friday schedule. Dragon Con rewards curiosity, but it punishes impossible transit math.
