If using contactless pay as you go on an eligible South Wales Metro journey, tap in and out with the same physical card or the same phone or watch. Switching from a card to its wallet version can create two incomplete journeys because the payment tokens differ.

Do not promise yourself a specific platform based on an older Cardiff event. Staff may meter station entry and release route queues as capacity becomes available. Follow signs and staff on Sunday.

Coming from London or Manchester by train

For London, GWR operates the mainline route between London Paddington and Cardiff Central. For Manchester, journey options can involve TfW, CrossCountry and connections. Search the whole return trip, not just the first leg.

Before buying:

1. Check whether the fare is tied to a named service.
2. Leave time for the post-match queue before the return train.
3. Check the final connection if the route changes at Bristol, Birmingham, Crewe or another station.
4. Save the ticket in the operator app or phone wallet where supported.
5. Keep a screenshot of the itinerary as a reference, but use the live ticket rather than assuming a screenshot is valid for the gate.

Supporters have been discussing return fares that cost more than the match ticket. That is a real planning constraint, but a Reddit price is not a current fare quote. Compare the live rail fare with the official coach and a car split before committing.

Official coach travel may be the cleaner return

Manchester City links to National Express from Manchester Chorlton Street. The operator currently lists returns from GBP 55 for adults and GBP 50 for children. Coaches are scheduled to arrive from 11:30 and leave at 18:00. If the match goes to extra time or penalties, National Express says departure moves to 60 minutes after the end.

The Manchester City page says the Cardiff drop-off at Museum Avenue is about an 18-minute walk from Principality Stadium. Check the booking confirmation because the club page and National Express event page describe the pickup area differently.

Arsenal lists separate club coach travel at GBP 45 per person for eligible ticket holders. Open the link from the Arsenal booking because its pickup, check-in and return instructions belong to that order, not to National Express's Manchester service.

A coach removes the post-match rail connection risk, but it creates a fixed departure. Save the vehicle pickup pin and operator contact before going inside. Do not assume the bus can wait for a meal, a long station detour or a visit to the wrong team zone.

Driving: follow the arrangement for your team

Cardiff Council has separated much of the event parking by supporter group. Following the other team's pin can put the car or coach on the wrong side of road controls.

Arsenal parking and coaches

These are event arrangements, not ordinary stadium parking. Save the correct postcode and team route before entering Cardiff. A generic map search for Principality Stadium may try to take the vehicle toward closed city-centre streets.

If parking elsewhere, read the exit route as carefully as the walking distance. A car park can remain open while the road needed to leave it is held for pedestrians. Do not rely on a third-party parking listing that ignores the event controls.

Road closures change buses and taxis too

The full city-centre event closure is scheduled from 10:00 to 20:00. Scott Road and Park Street close earlier at 07:00 for stadium operations. Penarth Road is due to close about 30 minutes before the finish and for up to one hour afterward so Cardiff Central can manage passengers.

Station Terrace is scheduled to close from 16:30 to 18:30 for the Queen Street operation. Cardiff Bus Interchange closes with the city road controls and is expected to reopen at 20:00. A bus that normally stops by the stadium may use a satellite stop instead.

Taxi ranks also move. The Saunders Road rank is listed as closed from 09:45 to 23:59, while St Mary Street is affected from 10:00 to 20:00. Choose a pickup point outside the closed core and tell the rest of the group exactly which side of the city it is on.

The council can adjust times for public safety. Check its event page and the live Cardiff Bus or Traffic Wales update on Sunday rather than treating this paragraph as a road permit.

Mobile tickets: solve access problems before Cardiff

Arsenal tickets are digital and appear in Ticket Hub inside the Arsenal app during the week before the match. Manchester City says its mobile tickets will be issued no later than three days before the game.

Open the ticket now. Check that it belongs to the right account, can be added or opened as instructed, and shows the expected supporter section. Charge the phone and keep the club login available. A screenshot can be useful as a seat reference, but rotating barcodes and wallet passes may require the official ticket.

Manchester City's published terms are strict: the ticket is personal and non-transferable, limited identity checks will take place, and someone using a ticket issued in another name can be refused entry. Do not solve a wrong-name ticket through an unofficial social-media transfer. Contact the club ticket office before traveling.

For Arsenal, use only the club's ballot, member account or any official ticket route it announces. For Manchester City, use the club sales page and its stated rules. The club can release additional inventory, but an old post saying seats were available does not prove they remain available today.

The bag rule is smaller than many backpacks

The published Community Shield rule allows a small bag no larger than 35 x 40 x 19 cm or a standard handbag. There is no bag storage at Principality Stadium. A cabin bag, large daypack or suitcase must be left somewhere else before approaching the turnstile.

Medical equipment that fits inside an A4 bag does not need a medical exemption under Arsenal's event guidance.
