Hawaiian Airlines plans to start nonstop flights between Seattle and Osaka on May 14, 2027. The year-round route is scheduled four times a week and is on sale, but it remains subject to government approval.

The flight will use a Hawaiian-branded Airbus A330-200 while carrying Alaska flight numbers AS867 and AS868. Travelers should look at the operating-carrier line as well as the flight number when checking the cabin, airport instructions and baggage terms.

The practical answer: AS867 is planned to leave Seattle at 12:10 p.m. and reach Osaka at 4:00 p.m. the next day. AS868 is planned to leave Osaka at 6:00 p.m. and reach Seattle at 12:20 p.m. the same calendar day. Confirm the approval status, local dates and operating carrier again before tying a separate connection or non-refundable booking to the route.

Seattle-Osaka schedule and start dates

Alaska and Hawaiian's October 20 announcement gives this timetable:

FlightRouteFirst planned departureLocal departureLocal arrivalPublished days
AS867Seattle SEA to Osaka KIXMay 14, 202712:10 p.m.4:00 p.m. next dayMonday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday
AS868Osaka KIX to Seattle SEAMay 15, 20276:00 p.m.12:20 p.m. same dayMonday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

The weekday pattern differs by direction. A Friday departure from Seattle reaches Japan on Saturday, while the return crosses the International Date Line and arrives in Seattle earlier on the same date shown for departure from Osaka.

This is planned as the only nonstop between Seattle and Osaka when it launches. That claim can change if another carrier enters the route. The safer booking check is whether the live result still shows SEA to KIX without an intermediate stop.

Hawaiian operates the A330 under Alaska flight numbers

The announced aircraft is a Hawaiian-branded Airbus A330-200. The airline says the onboard plan includes lie-flat Business Suites and free Starlink Wi-Fi for Atmos Rewards members through T-Mobile.

Hawaiian's redesigned A330 cabins are due to begin arriving in 2028. The May 2027 route launch therefore comes before that refurbishment program, so do not use later cabin renderings to judge the initial seat or interior. Aircraft substitutions also remain possible.

The April 2026 passenger-system change moved both airlines onto the same system and AS code. Hawaiian's brand remains visible on its flights, while booking and trip management use the combined Alaska Hawaiian app. If a digital document check does not complete, allow time for an airport agent to inspect the original passport and any required visa.

Connections at Seattle need a ticket and bag check

The new flight is timed for connections across the combined Alaska and Hawaiian network. That does not make every self-built connection safe.

For a single ticket, check the bag tag at the first airport and ask whether it shows KIX. A through-tagged bag on a domestic-to-international connection would normally continue without collection at Seattle, but the issued itinerary and airport agent control the actual process. Keep the baggage receipt until arrival.

Separate tickets deserve a much larger margin. A delay on the first booking may not protect the second, and the traveler may need to collect a bag, move to the correct lobby, check in again and clear security. Do not treat the minimum connection offered on one protected ticket as a sensible target for two independent reservations.

Seattle began using shared Alaska and Hawaiian airport lobbies after the airlines moved onto one passenger system. Still read the itinerary and airport signs on the travel date rather than relying on an older terminal guide or app screenshot.

Fares and baggage depend on the booking

The launch announcement included a limited promotional fare with a short purchase window. That price is not a reliable trip budget once promotional inventory or the sale period ends. Compare the live total for the actual dates and cabin.

The fare name matters. Alaska's current Saver guidance places more limits on seats and voluntary changes than Main Cabin. Baggage can also vary with the fare, status, card benefit and other airlines on the itinerary.

Read the allowance shown during checkout and on the e-ticket. For an onward domestic flight in Japan on a separate booking, compare that airline's limits before packing. A long-haul allowance does not automatically carry over to an unrelated domestic fare.

Arriving at Kansai Airport

Kansai Airport's international arrival guide sets out the sequence: quarantine and immigration, checked-bag collection, then customs. It also directs registered Visit Japan Web users to scan their QR code and passport at an integrated kiosk where available.

Japan's Digital Agency says Visit Japan Web can be used to prepare immigration and customs information. It is not a visa and does not decide whether a traveler may enter. Visa requirements depend on passport, residence, purpose and length of stay, so use Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Japanese embassy or consulate responsible for the traveler's residence.

Do not promise a fixed time from touchdown to the station. Immigration queues, baggage delivery and customs vary with the arrival wave and the individual journey. Leave a buffer before a separately booked domestic flight, train reservation or timed hotel transfer.

Getting from KIX to Osaka, Kyoto or Kobe

Kansai Airport Station is directly connected to Terminal 1 and serves JR West and Nankai trains. Nankai is the direct rail option toward Namba. JR services can suit Tennoji, Osaka, Shin-Osaka or Kyoto depending on the train and transfer plan.

Choose by the actual hotel, not simply the word Osaka. Namba, Umeda, Shin-Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe lead to different rail or bus choices. Check the live timetable after clearing arrivals, especially late in the evening or during disruption.

The route's scheduled 4:00 p.m. arrival leaves more published transport time than a late-night landing, but an airline timetable is not a guarantee of when a passenger will reach the station. Keep a bus or taxi alternative for a disrupted arrival.

Mobile data for Seattle, Osaka and a two-country trip

OpenSim's live catalog had a Japan eSIM, a United States eSIM and a Global 120+ areas eSIM covering both countries when this guide was reviewed.

The country plan is the direct comparison for a Japan-only trip. A global option may be more convenient for an itinerary that genuinely needs data on both sides, but compare allowance, validity, supported networks, speed policy, hotspot terms and top-up eligibility before checkout. Not every package is reloadable.

Install the selected eSIM over reliable Wi-Fi and follow its activation rule. An eSIM supplies data on supported ground networks. It does not include the aircraft's Starlink service, speed up border formalities or protect a missed connection.

Ten questions about Hawaiian Seattle-Osaka flights

When do Hawaiian Seattle-Osaka flights start?

The first Seattle departure is planned for May 14, 2027. The first Osaka departure is planned for May 15. The route is on sale but remains subject to government approval.

Which days will AS867 fly from Seattle?

AS867 is published for Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. It is scheduled to leave Seattle at 12:10 p.m. and arrive in Osaka at 4:00 p.m. the next day.

Which days will AS868 fly from Osaka?

AS868 is published for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It is scheduled to leave Osaka at 6:00 p.m. and arrive in Seattle at 12:20 p.m. on the same calendar date.

Who will operate AS867 and AS868?

Hawaiian is due to operate a Hawaiian-branded A330-200. The itinerary uses Alaska flight numbers because the airlines now share the AS code and passenger system.

Which app should I use for check-in?

The airlines direct travelers to the combined Alaska Hawaiian app after their April 2026 system transition. International documents may still require an in-person check, so carry the originals and allow extra airport time if online check-in stops with an agent message.

Will my checked bag transfer at Seattle?

It depends on how the trip was ticketed and tagged. Ask at the first airport whether the bag tag shows KIX. Separate tickets may require collection and a new check-in, and they usually offer less disruption protection.

Is the Seattle-Osaka flight nonstop?

Yes, the announced flight is nonstop between SEA and KIX. Check the live itinerary still shows no intermediate stop because this is a future schedule.

Do I need Visit Japan Web to enter Japan?

Visit Japan Web is an optional way to prepare immigration and customs information. It does not replace a passport or any visa required for the traveler.

How long should I allow after landing at Kansai Airport?

There is no dependable fixed time. Passengers complete immigration, collect checked bags and clear customs before reaching ground transport. Leave a flexible margin rather than booking the next step around a best-case queue.

Does the travel eSIM provide Wi-Fi on the A330?

No. A travel eSIM connects to supported mobile networks on the ground. The announced onboard Starlink offer is a separate airline service with its own membership and operating conditions.

A booking checklist

  • Confirm that May 14 and the government-approval caveat are still current.
  • Match SEA, KIX, AS867 or AS868, and the operating carrier on the itinerary.
  • Use the next-day Osaka arrival date for the first hotel night.
  • Read the exact fare's seat, change, refund and baggage terms.
  • Check whether connecting flights share one protected ticket.
  • Ask where every checked bag is tagged and keep the receipt.
  • Use official Japanese guidance for passport and visa requirements.
  • Prepare arrival information and save essential details offline.
  • Choose KIX transport using the actual hotel and live timetable.
  • Recheck the aircraft, local times, app notices and terminal before travel.

Hawaiian Seattle-Osaka source record

Alaska and Hawaiian's October 20 announcement supports the route trigger, planned start, year-round four-weekly timetable, government-approval caveat, flight numbers, aircraft and cabin claims. Their April passenger-system announcement supports the shared AS code, app and Seattle lobby information. Kansai Airport and Japan's Digital Agency support the arrival and Visit Japan Web guidance.

Independent aviation coverage was used to challenge the timetable, aircraft and only-nonstop claim against the airline release. Public discussions were used only to identify questions about combined-app check-in, bag transfers, Seattle connections, Kansai queues and ground transport. They were not used to prove airline, airport or immigration policy.

Review this guide when government approval is confirmed, the first round trip operates, either airline changes the timetable or aircraft, terminal and bag procedures are published, or Japan changes its arrival process.
