H.I.S. Mobile will include a free 4GB travel eSIM once a year
H.I.S. Mobile will give eligible voice-plan customers a 4GB travel eSIM valid for 15 days once each year. The benefit is scheduled to open on October 1, 2026, after the new Jiyu Jizai 3.0 domestic plans begin on September 17.
The allowance can be useful for a short overseas trip, but it is not unlimited data and it is not a free eSIM for anyone visiting Japan. It is a customer benefit for people who maintain an eligible H.I.S. Mobile voice plan in Japan.
The traveler decision: claim the included 4GB when your phone, destination and trip length fit the published rules. Compare a separate Roaming eSIM plan when you need more data, a regional route, a longer validity period, or a plan without an H.I.S. Mobile subscription.
What H.I.S. Mobile announced
H.I.S. Mobile announced Jiyu Jizai 3.0 on August 28. The revised Japanese mobile lineup ranges from 100MB to 30GB a month, with every listed base plan below JPY 2,000. The travel benefit is the part that matters abroad.
The company's first-party announcement says new and existing customers will receive HIS Travel eSIM powered by VOYE with:
- 4GB of total data;
- 15 days of validity;
- use once per year for each eligible phone number;
- coverage in more than 130 countries and regions; and
- a planned benefit start date of October 1, 2026.
This is an add-on benefit, not an international extension of the domestic data allowance. H.I.S. Mobile uses NTT Docomo for its main Japanese service, while the separate travel profile runs on VOYE's platform and connects to partner networks abroad.
The plan page also says the benefit applies to voice plans on Jiyu Jizai 2.0 and 3.0. Data-only customers are not listed as eligible. Anyone considering a new subscription solely for the travel allowance should wait for the final redemption terms and check the full annual cost of the domestic line.
The benefit starts after the new domestic plan
Three dates appear in the announcement, and they do not describe the same thing.

The separate entry-package campaign runs only through September 16 and offers a temporary application price to a limited number of customers. It should not be confused with the annual 4GB benefit. The travel allowance is described as a recurring customer feature, while the entry-package reduction is a launch campaign.
Travelers departing before October 1 should not rely on receiving the free allowance. H.I.S. Mobile uses "scheduled" wording for the launch, so confirm that redemption is live before cancelling another data plan.
Four gigabytes is a total allowance, not 4GB each day
The included plan provides 4GB across its validity period. H.I.S. Mobile does not describe it as 4GB per day or unlimited data.
Four gigabytes can cover maps, messages, translation, boarding passes and ordinary browsing when video playback, cloud backups and large app updates stay off mobile data. It can run out much sooner if a phone uploads photos, streams video, uses a laptop hotspot or downloads offline media after arrival.
Some travelers report using well under 10GB across two weeks, while others use around 1GB per day once maps, translation, music and video are included. Those accounts help identify the question, but they do not predict another person's usage.

What happens after the 4GB is used
H.I.S. Mobile's current plan page says data service stops when the free 4GB is exhausted. Customers can then buy more data. It does not promise reduced-speed continuation.
The same page says the eSIM can be reused. After the first installation, a customer can add another destination or validity package to the existing profile instead of downloading a new profile each time. That is useful, but "reusable" does not mean that the free 4GB renews whenever the traveler crosses a border. The free benefit remains once per year per eligible number.
H.I.S. Mobile has not yet published the complete benefit catalog, paid top-up prices or a full destination table. A traveler cannot compare the real cost of a 4GB-plus trip until those details are live.
The 130-country and 150-country claims do not match yet
The launch announcement and Jiyu Jizai 3.0 page say the travel eSIM works in more than 130 countries and regions. H.I.S. Mobile's general company page currently says more than 150.
That discrepancy is a reason to check the destination list, not a reason to assume the larger number. Roaming eSIM is using the narrower 130-plus claim until H.I.S. Mobile publishes the benefit's own country table.
Country count also does not establish coverage quality. Travelers still need the partner network, available generation, any fair-use rule and whether a multi-country itinerary stays on one package. A destination logo or broad coverage total cannot answer those questions.
Calls, SMS, hotspot and activation still need final terms
The announcement confirms mobile data. It does not say that the free travel profile includes an ordinary phone number, calls or SMS. Do not assume that the words "travel eSIM" preserve the H.I.S. Mobile number or replace international voice roaming.
H.I.S. Mobile's existing overseas service page says many of its travel eSIM products begin their validity when they first connect at the destination, but warns that some begin when issued. The new benefit's exact activation rule has not been published. Install only after checking the package-specific clock.
The public announcement also does not confirm hotspot support, transfer to another device, QR reissue, refund rules or what happens when a customer cancels the domestic line during a trip. These are open terms, not hidden benefits.
For the home number, H.I.S. Mobile's support page says international voice roaming requires a separate option. Keeping the domestic line active beside a data eSIM can still expose the user to call, voicemail or messaging charges. When the included H.I.S. Mobile eSIM is the better fit
The annual benefit is a sensible first choice when all of these are true:
- you already pay for an eligible H.I.S. Mobile voice plan;
- the exact destination appears in the benefit catalog;
- the trip fits within 15 days;
- 4GB is enough for the intended use;
- the phone supports eSIM and the published setup; and
- the package terms cover any required hotspot or multi-country use.
The main value is avoiding a separate data purchase for a light-use trip. A customer should not subscribe to a domestic mobile plan based on the word "free" without comparing the subscription, application and post-4GB costs.
When Roaming eSIM is the better choice 🏆
Roaming eSIM has the stronger fit when the trip does not match a once-a-year 4GB bundle. It does not require an H.I.S. Mobile domestic subscription, and the live catalog exposes allowance, validity, retail price, network field, covered operators and top-up eligibility before checkout.

🏆 Roaming eSIM wins on trip-specific choice: a traveler can compare current fixed and daily plans for the actual route instead of accepting one annual allowance. Package cards show whether an eligible plan can be topped up, while the H.I.S. Mobile benefit's full top-up table is still unpublished.
The public Roaming eSIM catalog was checked on August 31. South Korea had 33 live packages, including 3GB for 15 days at US$3.40 and 5GB for 30 days at US$5.40. France had 18, including 3GB for 15 days at US$3.40 and 5GB for 30 days at US$5.40. The reviewed packages named local operators and showed package-level top-up status. Prices and inventory can change, so the live card and final checkout remain the authority.
Ten questions travelers should answer before claiming the benefit
Who receives the free H.I.S. Mobile travel eSIM?
H.I.S. Mobile lists new and existing Jiyu Jizai 2.0 and 3.0 voice-plan customers. The benefit is once per year for each eligible phone number. Confirm the final account and redemption rules after the October 1 launch.
Is this for tourists visiting Japan?
No. It is an overseas data benefit tied to eligible Japanese H.I.S. Mobile voice plans. A visitor to Japan should compare Japan-specific products instead.
Is the allowance 4GB per day?
No. It is 4GB in total, valid for up to 15 days under the announced benefit.
When does the 15-day clock start?
The benefit-specific activation rule is not yet public. H.I.S. Mobile says some existing travel products start on destination connection and others start at issuance, so check the selected package before installation.
