Hopscotch Music Festival is underway in downtown Raleigh from Thursday, September 10 through Saturday, September 12, 2026. Visitors can still attend without a festival pass: the official day parties and the new Moore Square Commons are free and open to the public. City Plaza and the official club shows require a valid festival wristband.

The main planning problem is not distance. Most venues are close together. It is knowing which spaces are free, which clubs have age limits, and which small rooms may reach capacity before a set begins.

There are two official ways to take part without buying a festival pass.

Moore Square Commons is new for 2026. The organizer describes it as a free public space with live music, local vendors, food, drinks, shaded seating and open green space. It is about an eight-minute walk from City Plaza. The official Moore Square Commons page is the best place to check its current program.

Hopscotch day parties run at venues across Raleigh from Wednesday through Sunday. They are open to the public and do not require a Hopscotch wristband. Each host controls its own age rule and capacity, so free does not mean guaranteed entry. The current day-party list includes Friday, Saturday and Sunday programs with different start and finish times.

City Plaza and the official evening club shows are different. You need a festival wristband for those areas. Hopscotch does not sell a ticket for one club or one concert, although single-day festival passes may still be available while inventory lasts.

How to plan Friday and Saturday without wasting the night

The full schedule contains more choices than one person can realistically cover. Start with the official app, not a screenshot shared earlier in the week. Hopscotch says set times are approximate and may change without notice.

Build the day in three parts:

1. Pick a daytime base. Use one day-party venue or Moore Square Commons rather than crossing downtown for every short set.
2. Choose one City Plaza anchor. Friday's announced City Plaza artists include Duckwrth, Thee Sinseers and Butcher Brown. Saturday's include Soccer Mommy, WILLIS and Annie DiRusso. Use the app for current set times.
3. Limit the late club plan. Mark one priority set and one nearby alternative. If the first room is full, move on rather than spending another act's entire set in a queue.

Public festival discussions repeatedly mention the same first-timer mistake: treating a compact map as proof that every club will be immediately accessible. The walking part may take only a few minutes, but entry checks and a one-in-one-out room can change the plan.

Club capacity matters more than walking time

The official 2026 club list has six venues:

Hopscotch says every official club show is subject to the venue's capacity. VIP holders have an expedited line, but even VIP does not guarantee entry after a room fills. The organizer says clubs then use a one-in-one-out policy, with VIP priority over GA.

Wristband City is the festival box office at Church on Morgan, 136 E Morgan Street, beside Nash Hall. Bring the Etix confirmation on your phone or a printed copy, plus photo ID.

For the remaining festival days, the published hours are:

• Friday, September 11: 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
• Saturday, September 12: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Etix is the only ticketing provider Hopscotch identifies as verified. Tickets bought elsewhere may be invalid. Wristbands must stay on the attendee's wrist, cannot be transferred, and are required for City Plaza and club entry. A lost, damaged or over-tightened wristband must be replaced at Wristband City, with a published $10 replacement fee.

Do not leave collection until the set you want to see. The pickup location is central, but finding the confirmation email, checking ID and waiting in line all take time.

Hopscotch bag, bottle and cashless rules

City Plaza and Moore Square permit:

• fanny packs up to 16.5 by 6.5 by 4 inches;
• single-pocket drawstring bags up to 13 by 15 inches;
• larger permitted bags only when made from clear plastic, vinyl or PVC;
• one empty reusable plastic or metal water bottle, or one factory-sealed water bottle;
• rain jackets and ponchos.

The organizer prohibits large backpacks, umbrellas, chairs, blankets, tents, outside food and drinks, glass containers, detachable-lens cameras, drones, weapons, bicycles and several other items. Read the current Know Before You Go rules before packing because the list can change.

The outdoor-stage policy does not override club rules. A bag or empty bottle accepted at City Plaza may still be refused by an individual venue. Travel light if the evening includes several rooms.

Hopscotch is cashless at festival bars and merchandise points. Credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted there. A physical card remains a sensible backup if a phone battery dies.

Age rules and the Saturday family option

City Plaza and Moore Square are open to all ages, and the organizer says children aged 12 and under attend free. The club rules are stricter: Lincoln Theatre, Kings and Nash Hall are listed as all ages, while The Pour House, Neptunes and Slim's are 21 and over. Bring valid physical photo ID for any age-restricted room.

Families have a free daytime option at Totscotch, scheduled in Moore Square on Saturday, September 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The organizer describes it as a program of child-focused activities, interactive entertainment and creative play. Day parties set their own age rules. Do not assume a daytime start makes a bar venue all ages.

Getting around downtown Raleigh during Hopscotch

City Plaza is on Fayetteville Street between Davie and Lenoir streets. Moore Square is an eight-minute walk away according to the organizer, and the six club addresses form a compact downtown cluster.

Two road and parking restrictions matter:

• Fayetteville Street is closed between Davie Street and the south end of City Plaza.
• Parking spaces on Martin Street beside Moore Square are reserved for the festival, and vehicles left there may be towed.

Hopscotch recommends rideshare or GoRaleigh. The GoRaleigh site provides a trip planner, routes, service changes and bus tracking. The R-Line is the downtown circulator, but check its live hours and stop pattern rather than assuming it matches a late club finish.

Drivers can use Downtown Raleigh's public garage and lot directory. Read every posted sign because a general downtown listing does not cancel festival closures or temporary restrictions. Save the garage address before the event and avoid using a closed street as the pickup point for the return.

From RDU Airport to downtown Raleigh

Raleigh-Durham International Airport lists GoTriangle Route 100 and the RDU Shuttle as its public bus services. Airport pickup is between zones 2 and 3 at Terminal 1 and at zone 6 or 7 at Terminal 2.

The current Route 100 timetable serves Blount Street at GoRaleigh Station in downtown Raleigh, close to the festival area. Daytime airport service can involve the Regional Transit Center, while later Route 100 trips serve the airport directly. If landing close to a priority set, allow time for baggage, the bus or rideshare, accommodation check-in and Wristband City. A plane's scheduled arrival is not a realistic festival entrance time.

Weather, water and accessibility

Hopscotch is a rain-or-shine event. Umbrellas are prohibited, so a poncho or packable rain jacket is the practical wet-weather option. Check the current hourly forecast before leaving and reconsider footwear if the day includes long periods outside.

The organizer allows water bottles in the formats described above and says food and drink vendors operate on site. Moore Square Commons has published shaded seating and open green space, which can provide a slower break between sets.

At City Plaza, attendees seeking ADA assistance should look for the ADA seating area near the sound tent. Club accommodations vary by venue. Contact the specific club before travel when a step-free route, viewing space, restroom arrangement or other accommodation is essential. The festival also warns that some performances may use lighting unsuitable for people sensitive to strobes.
