When are the women's and men's races?

The professional women race on Saturday, September 12. The professional men race on Sunday, September 13. The published schedule starts each professional race at 7 a.m., followed by age-group waves from 7:10 a.m.

The organizer estimates the first professional woman will finish around 11:20 a.m. on Saturday and the first professional man around 10:50 a.m. on Sunday. Those are estimates, not appointments. Weather, racing conditions and operational changes can move the actual finish.

The event village is scheduled to open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both race days. Check the current IRONMAN spectator page and event schedule before leaving. IRONMAN states that schedules can change.

If you want to see the swim start, arrive well before 7 a.m. The roads and pedestrian approaches will already be under event control. If your priority is the finish, a later arrival can work, but do not plan a timed seafront taxi drop-off.

Nice airport access changes on September 12 and 13

Nice Airport has issued a specific event notice. Route 12+ will merge with route 8+, and the Aéroport / Promenade stop will not be served on Saturday or Sunday. The airport tells passengers to use tram line 2 instead. A connection with route 8+ remains available at Alsace-Lorraine.

Under the normal timetable, tram line 2 connects both airport terminals with Jean Médecin in the city center in under 30 minutes and continues to Port Lympia. The airport describes a weekday frequency of roughly every seven to eight minutes, but race-weekend service should be checked live rather than assumed from the regular schedule.

Arriving at Nice Airport on race weekend

1. Follow signs for tram line 2 at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2.
2. Check Lignes d'Azur before boarding for any event-day changes.
3. If your accommodation is near the Promenade, ask for the inland entrance. The seafront side may be blocked even when the building is close.
4. Allow for a longer walk with luggage if your nearest stop sits across the course.
5. Keep the accommodation address and door code saved offline.

The airport transfer between Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Grand Arénas is free. Do not assume the entire onward journey into Nice is free. Buy the appropriate fare through an official machine, app or sales point.

Departing from Nice Airport

Leave earlier than a normal weekend calculation suggests. From 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both race days, the city says both airport accesses from the north carriageway of the Promenade and the Terminal 1 exit will close. A taxi or private transfer may need a different approach and more time.

Use tram line 2 unless your airline, airport or local operator gives a more suitable current route. Confirm the terminal before leaving, and separate the time needed to reach the airport from the airline's check-in deadline.

Which roads close for the IRONMAN in Nice?

The closure plan is extensive and begins before race weekend. The city's current notice covers roads, parking, cycle lanes, pedestrian crossings, beach deliveries and public transport. Its text takes precedence over a screenshot because the city warns that maps may change.

This table is a planning summary, not a road-by-road authority. The City of Nice restriction notice lists the exact segments and exceptions in French.

The safest rule is simple: if a journey normally uses the Promenade des Anglais, Quai des États-Unis, Quai Rauba Capeu or roads close to the port, check it again on the day. A hotel being only two kilometers away does not mean a car can reach it by the usual route.

Should you drive or use public transport?

Most spectators staying in central Nice do not need a car for the race. The swim start, finish and city-center sections are walkable once you are on the correct side of the barriers. Tram and rail are usually more predictable than trying to cross a controlled seafront in a taxi.

Avoid moving a parked car during the race window unless your accommodation has confirmed an open route. Parking restrictions affect multiple streets and garages, and access may be possible only from a specific direction. The bike course reaches into the hills behind Nice before returning to the coast. Trying to chase an athlete by car is a poor plan when roads are closed and the athlete's exact timing is uncertain. Choose one of these strategies instead:

• Start and finish: watch the swim start, then remain in central Nice and use the tracker before moving toward the finish.
• Promenade focus: choose a point on the seafront run course and accept that crossings may close while athletes pass.
• One remote bike point: use only the organizer's current spectator guide and an open public-transport route. Do not improvise a roadside stop from a driving map.

Stay behind barriers and follow marshals. The closed course is not an invitation to walk, cycle or drive onto the route. If you have children, choose a fixed position with toilets, shade and a clear exit instead of moving repeatedly through crowds.

Pick your side of the course before 7 a.m.

The city says pedestrian crossings on the route can close temporarily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. That can separate a hotel, tram stop or restaurant from the place that looks close on a map.

Before race morning, pin these locations:

1. Your viewing position.
2. The nearest usable tram stop on the same side of the route.
3. A second meeting point away from the finish chute.
4. Toilets and a shaded break location.
5. Your route back without crossing the Promenade.

For people with reduced mobility, the city identifies controlled red-zone crossings at Promenade level near rue Halévy and at Quai des États-Unis near the Di Piu restaurant. Treat these as managed crossings, not guaranteed instant access. Ask a marshal before approaching and allow for a wait while competitors pass.

Jardin Albert 1er and nearby water-mirror areas also have event-related closures. Do not select them as a reunion point without checking the city's latest notice.

How to track an athlete and meet after the finish

Use the IRONMAN Tracker app for timing updates, but do not build the reunion plan around a single live dot. Timing data can be delayed, phones can run low and a crowded network can slow notifications.

Set one primary and one fallback meeting point before the athlete enters transition. The primary point should be outside the finish-channel crush, easy to describe and reachable without crossing the active course. Add a time rule, such as waiting 30 minutes before moving to the fallback.

The organizer's spectator page also links to a live finish-line camera. This can help family members watching from elsewhere, but it does not replace the official tracker or an in-person meeting plan.
