Korean Air's free 2GB eSIM: who can claim it
August 10, 2026. Korean Air is offering eligible international passengers a choice between a free Voye eSIM with 2GB of data for two days and a US$3 voucher for a larger Voye plan. Korean Air lists the promotion period as May 1 through August 31, 2026.
The data is free only when the booking meets Korean Air's rules. The ticket must have been bought through one of the airline's listed direct channels during the promotion period. The Korean-language terms also require SKYPASS membership and say each passenger's SKYPASS number must have been entered when the booking was made.
The traveler decision: claim the free 2GB plan when you qualify, your destination appears in the 97-country offer and two days will cover the important arrival tasks. Use the US$3 voucher or compare a separate Roaming eSIM when the trip is longer, needs more data, crosses a different coverage set, or the booking does not meet Korean Air's rules.
What Korean Air is giving passengers
The Korean Air promotion page gives eligible passengers one of two Voye benefits:

Voye's Korean Air landing page presents these as two separate coupon uses: claim the complimentary 2GB/2-day plan or take US$3 off a higher plan. It currently lists 97 supported countries for the free product.
That number is narrower than the broad network language on Korean Air's page, which says Voye works with local carriers in more than 100 countries. A provider's total footprint is not the same as the coupon's coverage. Search the promotion's country list for the actual destination before treating the free plan as part of the trip.
Check Korean Air eSIM eligibility before trying the coupon
Korean Air's English page and Korean-language terms need to be read together. The current requirements are:
- The passenger is flying on a Korean Air international flight;
- The ticket was purchased during the May 1 to August 31 promotion period;
- The purchase was made through the Korean Air website, app, service center or a Korean Air regional office;
- The passenger is a SKYPASS member, according to the Korean-language terms;
- Each passenger's SKYPASS number was entered at booking, including travelers other than the purchaser;
- The benefit has not been exhausted or ended early.
An online travel agency, another airline's website and a general travel agent are not among the listed sales channels. Korean Air does not publish a separate rule for codeshares, award tickets, group bookings or a SKYPASS number added after ticketing. Do not infer eligibility for those cases from the flight number alone. Check the coupon area in the Korean Air account or ask the airline before buying data around the expected benefit.
Eligibility shortcut: open Korean Air Website/App, go to MY, then Coupons & Vouchers. If the Voye coupon is not there, first check the ticket channel and the SKYPASS number attached to each passenger. Korean Air handles booking eligibility; Voye handles questions about the eSIM coupon and service.
The 100MB test is not the 2GB travel benefit
The airline page mentions 100MB of pre-flight test data near the promotion details. That can make the offer look like one combined allowance, but Voye describes two separate products.
The free Korean Air benefit is 2GB for two days at the destination. Voye's general first-purchase feature adds 100MB so a customer can test the installed eSIM in the home country. Voye's activation guidance says using that test allowance does not activate the purchased destination plan.
The 100MB test is for checking that the profile can connect. It is not extra destination data to add to the 2GB total, and it should not be used for normal browsing before departure.
How to claim the Korean Air Voye eSIM
Korean Air publishes this redemption path:
- Select Get Coupon on the promotion page while signed in.
- Open MY > Coupons & Vouchers in the Korean Air website or app.
- Follow the link attached to the issued coupon.
- Create a Voye account or sign in.
- Select the 2GB/2-day offer or another eligible plan and go to the cart.
- Select Proceed, enter the coupon code and confirm that the benefit has been applied before completing the order.
Take a screenshot of the applied total and save the installation email or account page. If the coupon is accepted against the free-plan item, the checkout should show that benefit before the order is completed. If it does not, stop and contact Voye rather than assuming a later refund.
Korean Air says the promotion can finish early if the benefits run out and may be changed or ended without notice. Claim the coupon after confirming eligibility rather than waiting until August 31. The live coupon and checkout remain the authority.
Install before departure, activate at the destination
Voye provides a QR code after checkout. Its installation guide recommends adding the profile on stable internet, labeling it clearly and keeping the usual SIM as the default line for calls and messages.
Voye says the destination plan activates after arrival when the traveler enables the eSIM. Its instructions also require data roaming on the Voye line abroad. The separate 100MB test can be run before the flight without starting the destination plan.
Use this order:
- Confirm the exact phone model supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked;
- Install while reliable WiFi and support are available;
- Keep the Voye line off after any pre-flight test;
- At the destination, select Voye for mobile data and enable data roaming on that line;
- Leave cellular data switching off unless the provider says otherwise;
- Test a map and message before leaving the airport.
Voye does not define the two-day clock on Korean Air's page as two calendar days, two 24-hour periods or a destination-time cutoff. Its general help establishes when activation begins, but not that finer billing detail. Ask Voye if a late-night arrival could materially affect the second day.

What 2GB for two days can and cannot cover
Two gigabytes can be enough for a short arrival window when the phone is used mainly for maps, airline and hotel apps, messaging, email and light browsing. It can disappear much faster with video, cloud photo backup, app updates, video calls or a laptop hotspot.
Before arrival:
- Download an offline map for the airport and first destination;
- Save the hotel address, rail or transfer confirmation and first-day tickets;
- Turn off cellular photo backup and automatic app updates;
- Download entertainment over WiFi;
- Check the selected plan's hotspot rule before relying on tethering.

Does the free Voye eSIM include calls, SMS or a phone number?
Do not assume so. Voye says it now sells separate voice-enabled products for selected USA and Global plans, but not every Voye package includes calls, SMS or a number. The Korean Air promotion describes the complimentary product as 2GB of eSIM data and does not promise voice service.
Data-based calls and messages through apps can work while data remains. A standard call, SMS verification code or local phone number requires the exact package to include those features or the usual SIM to remain active. Hotspot support is also not stated in Korean Air's terms. Check the Voye product details or support response instead of treating a fixed allowance as proof that tethering is allowed.
Free Voye plan or Roaming eSIM?
If the coupon fits the trip, use it. A paid plan cannot beat a fitting zero-cost allowance. Roaming eSIM becomes the stronger option when the airline benefit does not match the itinerary.

Those longer validity choices may suit a Seoul or multi-city stay, but the selected card remains the authority for price, high-speed allowance, reduced speed, hotspot use, voice and reloadability.
