Runners passing a Lausanne Marathon 2008 start arch in an archival photograph

Lausanne Marathon takes place on Sunday, October 25, 2026. Race entry is sold out, so the immediate job for registered runners is preparing collection, the correct start and the journey home. Spectators and other visitors also need to plan around lakeside road restrictions: CGN warns that access to several boat piers will be difficult during the race.

The photograph shows a 2008 race start. It is not a map of the current course or a preview of this year's entrance layout.

Save three locations, not one marathon pin

The Lausanne tourism event page distinguishes the Place de Milan start from the Place Bellerive finish. Bib collection is a third task, at the Auguste Piccard sports hall. Save each destination by name so that a search for the event does not send you to the finish when you need the start.

For runners, the order matters: collect the bib, leave anything you will not carry, then reach the assigned starting area. For supporters, agree whether you are meeting before the start or after the finish. Those are different plans, even if both people say they are going to the marathon.

Allow time to find the right entrance and follow staff directions. A short distance on a map does not account for queues, barriers or a necessary crossing.

Bib collection on October 23, 24 and 25

The official collection page gives Salle de sport Auguste Piccard, Chemin de Bellerive 36, Lausanne as the collection address for bibs and T-shirts.

DayCollection hours
Friday, October 2315:00-18:00
Saturday, October 2411:00-18:00
Sunday, October 2507:00-14:00

Friday or Saturday collection removes one job from race morning. If Sunday is your only option, work backwards from your own start rather than from the desk's closing time. A collection service open into the afternoon does not mean a morning runner can arrive whenever convenient.

Keep the registration confirmation and any final collection instructions available offline. If someone else would need to collect for you, obtain the organizer's permission and document requirements first; a social-media offer to help does not establish the event's proxy-collection policy.

The separate Marathon Expo listing covers Friday and Saturday. Do not assume Sunday bib collection means the exhibition stands remain open on Sunday too.

Start times: check your distance and assigned block

The organizer's specific 2026 start timetable lists the following first departures from Place de Milan:

RaceFirst departure shown
Half-marathon08:40
Marathon10:05
10km run14:00, with the discrepancy below
10km walkingFrom 14:30
10km Nordic walkingFrom 14:33

The half-marathon and 10km run use nine blocks spaced four minutes apart; the marathon uses four blocks spaced three minutes apart. The first departure is not every participant's start time. Follow your assigned block and final runner instructions.

The 10km time needs confirmation. The Datasport registration page currently shows 13:55, while the organizer's dedicated timetable shows 14:00. Do not arrive at the later minute assuming the difference is harmless. Check the final message for your race or ask the organizer before travelling.

Keep a margin for finding the correct block. A calendar reminder should be for when you need to be ready in the start area, not for when you leave your accommodation.

Sold out does not mean an unofficial bib is acceptable

Datasport marks all five race categories sold out, and the organizer's homepage says there is no registration on site. This is not a last-minute sign-up recommendation.

The French transfer rules say free email changes closed on September 14. They also describe a conditional service at the Expo problem desk: transfers or distance changes require the physical bib, availability and CHF 5 in cash. That is not a guarantee that a resale transaction will be accepted.

Contact the organizer before paying someone for an entry. Do not run under another person's unchanged details. The rules explain why accurate identity and contact information matter if medical or other assistance is needed.

If payment failed or your confirmation never arrived, resolve the actual registration record with the organizer. A bank transaction, a seller's screenshot and a valid race entry are not interchangeable evidence.

Leave your bag before heading to the start

The baggage instructions describe a supervised sports-bag area at Bellerive, accessed with a bib, open 08:00-17:00. There is no bag transfer from the start to the finish. The organizer puts the separation between the two sites at about 420 metres.

Bellerive-Plage swimming-pool lockers can take a personal padlock. Auguste Piccard changing rooms are listed as unsupervised. Those are different arrangements; do not assume every place to change offers the same security.

Pack for the deposit you actually intend to use. Keep a dry layer available for afterwards, and avoid bringing work equipment or travel valuables simply because you have seen a general mention of lockers. Check size and access requirements for anything more than an ordinary sports bag.

For the early half-marathon, the gap between bag-drop opening and the first start is limited. Plan the sequence in advance rather than adding collection, storage and finding your block to one hurried arrival.

Road restrictions affect more than runners

The Lausanne-sector traffic notice says Bellerive-Plage parking is occupied for event operations October 14-27. On race Sunday, part of Avenue de Cour closes 07:00-14:30, and Quai de Belgique and Ouchy are closed all day. Other local restrictions also apply.

Do not arrange a taxi pickup at a point inside a closure and expect the driver to reach it. Choose a meeting place after checking the current restrictions, and give a supporter the same location. Avoid moving a car between viewing points while the event is in progress.

For rail, bus and metro options, use the providers linked from Lausanne's official transport guidance. Recheck the journey for the actual Sunday and leave time for the last walk. This guide has not verified a race-specific free transport entitlement; do not assume a bib replaces a valid ticket.

Boat passengers: allow extra time to reach the pier

CGN's October 25 traffic notice warns that reaching the piers at Lausanne-Ouchy, Pully, Lutry and Cully will be difficult because of the marathon. It recommends public transport and extra time to reach the landing stage, with live service information at qr.cgn.ch.

That is an access warning, not a statement that all boats are cancelled. Check both parts of the trip: whether your sailing is operating and whether you can reach its pier in time. A normal departure shown in a timetable does not solve a blocked road approach.

This matters if you are visiting from elsewhere on the lake, accompanying a runner or simply keeping an unrelated Sunday reservation. Leave a margin for finding an approved crossing, and do not build an immediate post-race boat connection around an optimistic finish estimate.

Spectators, families and access needs

Choose one viewing priority and a separate reunion point. Waiting beside a finish chute is not the same as having a recognizable place where a runner can find you afterwards. Agree what each person should do if messages do not arrive.

The race participation rules prohibit unregistered accompanying runners and cyclists, outside assistance, dogs and children in strollers within the race. Families should support from permitted spectator areas rather than joining the course. The page describes a specific joëlette exception; contact the organizer about any adapted participation rather than treating that as general permission for wheeled equipment.

For step-free viewing or an essential accessible route, ask the organizer about the actual entrance, surface and crossing you need. A lakeside setting alone establishes none of those details. Plan a place to sit or leave early if a child or supporter becomes uncomfortable.

Runners close to a cutoff should confirm the applicable rule too. The organizer's category page gives 3 hours 30 minutes for the half-marathon, while its dedicated time-limit page gives 4 hours. Do not build a plan around the more generous figure without confirmation.

Phone preparation for your Swiss race weekend

Save your confirmation, start instructions, accommodation address and meeting point before leaving Wi-Fi. Keep enough battery for the return journey. Share the plan with a supporter who is not relying on your phone to know where to go.

For international visitors without suitable Swiss roaming, OpenSim Switzerland plans offer small prepaid allowances for timetable checks and messaging. The public catalog checked October 18 lists 1GB for seven days at US$1.14 and 3GB for 15 days at US$3.00, both eligible for top-up. That can fit a short race trip without buying a large streaming allowance. If your existing plan includes enough Swiss data, another purchase may be unnecessary.

Use the travel data calculator, check phone compatibility and review installation timing. Data does not guarantee reception in a crowd or replace an entry, transport ticket or offline plan.

For time beyond the event, the Switzerland with kids guide covers broader family planning. Keep ambitious sightseeing separate from the recovery time your party needs after the race.

Lausanne Marathon updates and photograph

The linked organizer, registration, tourism and CGN pages were checked on October 18, 2026. Recheck final runner instructions, the 10km start discrepancy, any transfer decision, traffic and sailings before departure. Update this guide for material changes through October 25; a later edition needs its own verified programme before the advice is refreshed.
