Museumnacht Amsterdam takes place on Saturday, November 7, 2026, with the overall event running from 7pm to 2am. The organizer advertises a EUR25 ticket for more than 65 participating museums. Buy through its official ticket page, choose a few places you genuinely want to spend time in, and check each museum's programme before arranging your late-night journey home.

The 2am finish falls on Sunday, November 8. It is not a promise that every exhibition, workshop or museum stays open that late. H'ART Museum, for example, closes its exhibition at 11pm and its Museum Night event at midnight.

This year's choices include STRAAT's newly opened Henry Chalfant graffiti exhibition and Wereldmuseum's new DISCO exhibition. They give you a reason to plan around the art and activities rather than treating the pass as a race through famous buildings.

What is Amsterdam Museum Night?

Museumnacht combines museum visits with special evening programmes: workshops, performances, music and other activities that vary by venue. It suits a visitor who wants to participate as well as look at exhibitions. A normal daytime visit may be a better choice if your priority is a quiet, uninterrupted viewing of one collection.

Start with the organizer's participating museums and programme. Decide what you want to do before deciding how many museums to fit in. A workshop and a performance can occupy more of your evening than a quick walk through a gallery.

The organization describes a focus on young people living in Amsterdam. That is not, by itself, a universal admission age rule or a ban on visitors. If you are bringing children or need to confirm eligibility for a particular activity, check the current organizer and venue conditions rather than relying on an older travel article.

Where to buy the official EUR25 ticket

The official ticket page links to the organizer's CM ticket shop. Both displayed the regular EUR25 admission when checked on October 14. The advertised sale opened on September 24 at 11am.

Follow that route before comparing offers from similarly named websites. Check the event date, selected ticket and final payable amount before purchase. The advertised price is not a guarantee of remaining stock, every checkout fee or an individual activity's availability.

If you cannot complete payment with your card or bank account, resolve that with the organizer or CM before booking non-refundable travel. A visitor's 2019 payment question illustrates the problem, but an old discussion does not establish which methods the 2026 checkout accepts.

Already have a Museumkaart or a city sightseeing pass? Confirm its event-specific treatment before counting it as admission. The same applies to cancellation, transfer and resale rules. A card that covers a normal museum visit and a ticket for this special evening are different products; do not assume one replaces the other.

Which museum programme fits your evening?

These are selected published programmes, not an exhaustive list or a guaranteed timetable for every room. The times below are local Amsterdam times on November 7, continuing into November 8 where shown. Recheck the linked museum pages before travel.

MuseumPublished programme to considerTiming that affects your plan

H'ART MuseumChez Matisse exhibition and a live DJExhibition: 7pm to 11pm; event ends at midnight

STRAAT: choose it for graffiti and movement

STRAAT's October 7 announcement introduces ART IS NOT A CRIME, which opened on October 9. Its Museum Night programme includes graffiti and breakdance workshops, short talks, ISH Dance Collective freestyle performances and DJ Too Martian playing old-school hip-hop.

The address is NDSM-Plein 1. Make this a deliberate north-side destination rather than a casual extra stop between central museums. Check the activity schedule and your crossing before committing to a later timed event elsewhere.

STRAAT also has separate Thursday evening openings from October 15. Those regular late openings are not the November 7 Museum Night ticket. Select the right event when following a booking link.

Wereldmuseum: choose it for disco and participatory activities

The Museum Night programme connects to DISCO, an exhibition that opened on October 10. House of B has vogue workshops at 8pm, 9:30pm and 10:30pm, each lasting half an hour. Button-making runs from 7:30pm to 11:30pm.

The DJ programme continues later, with Tonno Disko's listed set running from midnight to 1:30am. If a workshop is your main reason to come, arrive for its time rather than assuming the late DJ finish applies to every activity.

A group with mixed interests can choose a shared meeting point and let people spend part of the visit in different activities. Agree on the next departure time before separating.

Amsterdam in Motion: choose it for a longer stay

Amsterdam in Motion's programme marks the Amsterdam Museum's centenary. It includes a silent disco, a football-canteen installation and a workshop where visitors turn CDs into artwork.

The photobooth ends at 1am and the CD workshop at 1:30am, even though the venue programme runs until 2am. Put whichever matters most first. Use the current Amsterdam in Motion location in your map, rather than an old saved Amsterdam Museum pin.

H'ART: put the exhibition earlier in your route

The H'ART Museum listing pairs Chez Matisse with a live DJ. Its exhibition closes at 11pm, an hour before the event ends at midnight. Arriving close to midnight would miss the exhibition.

Its page also displays a regular museum-ticket price alongside a link to the festival ticket page. Start from the organizer's Museum Night shop and confirm what you are buying; do not treat a normal daytime admission quote as the festival pass.

How to build a route you can enjoy

Choose one anchor museum, one nearby alternative and an optional final stop. This is a planning recommendation, not an organizer route or a promise about queues. Leave room to stay longer when a workshop or performance is worth it.

If H'ART's exhibition is the priority, put it early. If STRAAT is the priority, plan the north-side part first and verify the journey to your next venue. If you want Wereldmuseum's late disco programme, work backwards from that choice rather than adding it after several unrelated stops.

Before saving a route, check:

  • The actual entrance address, not just the museum name.
  • The time of the activity you want, as well as the building's closing time.
  • Whether it needs a reservation, has a separate condition or fills on arrival.
  • A nearby alternative you would still enjoy if entry is delayed.
  • The return journey from your final museum to your accommodation.

Do not bookend the evening with two tightly timed activities on opposite sides of the city. Travel, queuing and finding the correct entrance all consume time. A backup should be a real alternative, not somewhere you would visit only to increase the count.

For non-Dutch speakers, check language labels on individual activities. An English museum website does not mean every talk, workshop or social event runs in English. Music and visual exhibitions may suit your interests, but language still matters when an activity depends on instructions or conversation.

Getting between museums and home after midnight

Use GVB's journey planner with the correct date and departure time. For a journey after midnight, enter Sunday, November 8, not Saturday morning. Save the destination as your accommodation's address rather than simply Amsterdam Centraal.

The GVB ferry information lists the IJ routes as free and identifies the Buiksloterweg to Centraal F3 as a day-and-night connection. NDSM has a different route, F4. A night service on one crossing does not establish the departure time of another: check the ferry you need, particularly after a STRAAT visit.

If you are staying outside Amsterdam, include the onward train or regional bus in the same plan. Reaching a station is not the same as reaching your hotel. Do not assume a late museum finish means your usual metro, tram or intercity train still runs.

Budget transport separately unless the organizer explicitly confirms that your selected journey is included. For a group, compare the full route and any fallback cost before deciding to stay far from the museums. A cheaper room can become less convenient if everyone needs a different late-night connection.

Useful tools and preparation before the evening

The official GVB app, Gappie, is available in English and Dutch. GVB describes national journey planning through 9292, live vehicle information, a ferry countdown, stop accessibility and lift or escalator disruption information. It also supports buying barcode tickets, including night-bus tickets. Check the ticket you select rather than assuming a saved day ticket covers every operator.

Save your chosen museum pages and map pins before leaving. Keep your booking email accessible and check the organizer's instructions for presenting admission. An offline copy is a useful backup, but it does not override a ticket rule or display live changes.

Charge your phone and bring a power bank if you expect to use maps through the night. Agree on a physical meeting point with your group. If your phone dies or messages arrive late, you should still know where to meet.

For step-free travel, review both the transport stops and the museum's own event access information. Daytime accessibility information may not describe the entrance, room or activity used that evening. Ask the venue about anything essential to your visit before buying travel around it.

Bring a layer you can wear while waiting outside and check the weather shortly before going. Keep food breaks in the plan rather than relying on a particular museum bar to serve a full meal until closing. A long indoor programme still involves outdoor journeys between buildings.

Keep the wristband for a quieter return visit

The organizer's return-visit rules say you exchange your ticket for a wristband at the first museum you visit. Keep it afterwards: it allows one free return visit from Sunday, November 8, through Thursday, December 31, 2026.

The published exclusions are Nxt Museum, ARTIS-Planetarium and free locations. Museums may require a date-and-time reservation, so read the selected venue's preparation instructions before turning up.

This can change how you use the night. Spend the evening on the special programme, then use the return for a collection you want to see at a slower pace. If your trip ends before November 8, the return benefit may have no practical value to you; do not count it as a saving you will definitely use.

Mobile data for the museum route

Maps, live departures and group messages are useful when your plan changes between venues. Download what you can beforehand, but allow for the information that needs a connection: a cancelled service, a revised meeting point or a later journey home.

When checked on October 14, an OpenSim Netherlands plan offered 5GB for 30 days at USD4.76, with top-up supported on that particular plan. That fixed allowance is an option for a visitor who wants data for the Amsterdam weekend and other Dutch stops without purchasing a daily roaming package. It is not a claim that 5GB is enough for everyone, that every plan can be topped up or that OpenSim guarantees reception in a crowded room.

If your existing mobile plan already includes enough Netherlands data at no extra charge, using it may be the simpler choice. Compare that allowance first. OpenSim is relevant when you need a separate travel-data budget for maps and messages, not because a museum ticket requires buying an eSIM.

Use the travel data calculator to estimate your usage, the installation-timing guide to prepare, and the phone compatibility guide before purchasing. Families extending the trip can use Netherlands with kids for broader destination planning.

Museum Night sources and update policy

Checked on October 14, 2026, against the organizer's ticket and return-visit pages, the linked museum programmes and GVB's published travel guidance. Prices, availability, activity times and transport arrangements can change. Recheck the official ticket shop before purchase and individual programmes and journeys shortly before November 7. This guide will be updated when a material ticket, programme, access or transport change is confirmed.
