Stockholm International Film Festival runs from November 11 to 22, 2026. Its programme was released on October 14, with a 24-hour Film Club ticket presale advertised by the organizer. Choose the screening you want before booking a trip: membership is optional, individual tickets still matter, and subtitles or guest appearances can differ between showings.

Check the official festival website for the current sale window. The launch announcement does not establish an exact general-sale time you should rely on for a booking reminder. Once the presale ends, use the current ticket page rather than assuming every advertised film still has seats.

This is a useful trip for someone who wants to see several films in Stockholm cinemas, with time between them to explore the city. A first visit does not need a schedule packed from morning until midnight. Two screenings a day leave room for a meal, travel and a conversation about what you have just watched.

What the new programme means for your trip

The programme announcement names Martin McDonagh's Wild Horse Nine as the opening film and You Can See Everything as the closing film. It also introduces a Japan focus and a Daddy Issues spotlight.

Use those strands to narrow the programme rather than trying to recognize every director. You might choose one anticipated release and another film you would be unlikely to see at home. Read the synopsis, language details and screening date together. An appealing title is not useful if its only suitable showing falls outside your visit.

The official screening calendar lets you browse by film, date and section. A film can appear several times because the listings are individual screenings. Save the date, start time, cinema and auditorium for each booking, not just the title.

If a guest conversation is the reason you are travelling, start with that specific event. A later showing of the same film may be easier to fit into your weekend but may not include the guest. Keep a second film choice for any slot where the booking is unavailable.

Membership, a screening ticket and Cineville are different

The festival's membership page confirms that you can buy ordinary festival tickets without becoming a member. Its regular annual membership is advertised at SEK390, with a SEK100 festival-ticket discount. The membership lasts a year from payment, and member-priced tickets are personal: each attendee using that price needs their own valid membership.

Compare the full cost of the screenings you want with and without membership. Include the membership charge, rather than comparing only the reduced ticket price. Do not assume a special daytime offer will produce the same saving as a regular screening.

Membership can make more sense if you live nearby and will use future previews. A visitor coming for one film may prefer an ordinary ticket. The digital pass brings purchased admissions and membership into one QR system; it does not turn a membership into unlimited entry to the programme.

Keep each person's admission clear if you are buying for a group. Ask who will hold the ticket, who has a membership and whether you are attending the same screening. Sending everyone the name of a film is not enough to coordinate three different dates.

Wicker: the same film has different evenings

The Wicker film page shows why the individual listing matters. As checked on October 14, it listed:

  • November 11 at 21:15, Skandia, with a Face2Face featuring Alexander Skarsgard and Gustav Lindh.
  • November 12 at 20:00, Saga auditorium 2, without that Face2Face in the listing.
  • November 14 at 17:15, Sture auditorium 1, also listed as the film rather than that guest event.

The film runs 105 minutes and is listed with English dialogue and Swedish subtitles. Check the current event description and total price before paying. A film duration alone does not tell you when a screening with an additional conversation will finish, and guest arrangements can change.

If you mainly want to watch the film, choose the date and cinema that work for your trip. If meeting the filmmakers is your priority, the later screening is not a substitute for the named conversation. Avoid booking a tight departure after an event whose full running time has not been confirmed.

Check subtitles before buying an unfamiliar film

English dialogue and English subtitles solve different problems. A film spoken mostly in English can still contain scenes in another language. Swedish subtitles will not help a visitor who cannot read Swedish follow those scenes.

Read the language and subtitle fields on each film page. If either is missing or unclear, ask the festival about the exact screening before purchasing. Do not assume an international festival uses English subtitles for every title, or that a cinema normally showing English-language releases will do so for every festival film.

This also matters when booking with a friend. Choose a version both of you can follow, especially for a film whose plot depends on dialogue. A different title may be a better shared evening than one person spending the showing unable to understand it.

Keep your phone away during the film. Translation tools are useful for planning and getting around; they are not a reason to illuminate a screen or disturb the audience. For accessibility requirements such as captions or audio description, get a screening-specific answer instead of treating ordinary translated subtitles as equivalent.

Cineville and daytime prices use different time cutoffs

Cineville's festival page includes weekday screenings starting before 16:00 at Skandia, Zita and Klarabiografen. It says additional selected evening, weekend and special screenings will be published closer to the festival.

That is a defined set of admissions, not confirmation that every evening premiere is covered. Existing members should check the qualifying listing and reservation procedure. If you are considering a new subscription for this visit, read its commitment and eligibility terms first. Do not assume a card from another country's Cineville service has the same access.

Separately, the festival FAQ advertises weekday screenings before 15:00 at SEK80 and weekday screenings before noon at Skandia at SEK50. Compare the price displayed for your chosen ticket. Cineville's 16:00 boundary is not the same offer as the festival's earlier discounted screenings.

Arrive early and treat standby as a fallback

The festival asks ticket holders to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start. Its FAQ says a place can be released if you are absent when the showing begins. Late admission for Red Carpet events is for members and accredited guests when seats remain; ordinary screenings at other cinemas can also admit non-members through late sales.

Do not build a non-refundable trip around a possible standby seat. Choose a confirmed showing when seeing one particular film is essential, and leave time to find the entrance and room. A meal overrunning or a delayed train should not consume your entire arrival margin.

The organizer states that tickets cannot be refunded or exchanged, while transfers are allowed; a recipient of a member ticket must also have membership. Check its current terms before buying for someone whose plans are uncertain.

Choose accommodation around your booked cinemas

Start with the screenings, then compare accommodation. A cheap room is not necessarily convenient if it creates a long return after your last film. Check the actual route from each cinema to the accommodation at the time you expect to leave.

For two friends attending different programmes, agree on one shared booking each day and a meeting place afterward. You do not have to synchronize every film. Keep the cinema names and room numbers in a shared note so a changed plan does not become a search through several messages.

Try this two-day structure:

DaySuggested paceBefore confirming
Arrival dayCheck in, eat, attend one evening screeningLeave enough time after the airport journey and hotel arrival
Full festival dayOne daytime film, a proper break, one evening bookingCheck subtitles, both cinemas and the return journey
Departure morningBreakfast and travel, or a film only with a generous marginAllow for the full screening, leaving the cinema and your airport transfer

These are planning suggestions, not an official itinerary. Put the full visit in your calendar, including meals and travel. If two attractive films require a rushed transfer, choose the one you most want rather than paying for both and missing part of each.

For a longer trip with children, use our Sweden with kids guide for country-level attractions and routes. A film festival programme should not be treated as automatically child-friendly; check the chosen title's age guidance and content.

Airport travel and moving between cinemas

Swedavia's Arlanda train guidance lists an 18-minute Arlanda Express journey to Stockholm Central and a 38-minute commuter-train journey between Arlanda Central and Stockholm Central. Those are train times, not your total time from landing to the cinema.

Arlanda Express uses Arlanda South and Arlanda North. Commuter services use Arlanda Central in SkyCity. Swedavia lists a SEK157 station fee for passengers entering or leaving trains at Arlanda Central when it is not already included in the ticket. Compare the complete fare and route rather than assuming every airport train accepts the same ticket.

The airport transport page also covers buses and taxis. Check your operator's dated departures and the journey onward to your accommodation. An express rail arrival at Central is convenient only if the rest of the route also works for you.

Use the SL app for local journeys. SL's current ticket terms distinguish physical and digital contactless cards: keep the same card or device when changing during the ticket's validity. One personal contactless card pays for its holder, not a whole group. Check your ticket's validity in the app and use the proper admission method; copied app tickets are not permitted.

Plan the return before entering the cinema. Set aside time to collect belongings and reach the stop after the film. Check service changes for the actual November date rather than relying on an old festival visitor's experience of the last train.

Access needs require a cinema-specific check

The festival FAQ says Skandia is not currently accessible and lists one wheelchair space at Mauritz. Contact the festival before booking if you need wheelchair seating or a companion arrangement, and give the film, cinema and date.

A convenient screening time cannot compensate for an unsuitable entrance or seat. Ask about the approach from transport, steps, toilets and how an assistant's admission is arranged. The historical Skandia photograph in this guide illustrates the venue; it is not evidence of its current access arrangements.

Useful online checks and OpenSim data

Use the festival's own calendar for screenings, its individual film pages for language and guests, and SL for transport. Before leaving Wi-Fi, open the festival's digital pass and confirm the correct bookings appear. Follow its ticket instructions; do not assume a screenshot can replace a live pass or every venue's admission system.

Save your accommodation address and an offline map. Agree on a meeting place if your group separates, and keep enough phone battery for admission and the journey home. Check any changed screening or route while you are outside the auditorium.

OpenSim Sweden plans can support those checks and group messaging away from Wi-Fi. On October 14, the public catalog listed a fixed 5GB, 30-day Sweden plan at USD4.76, marked eligible for top-up. Review the current package price and conditions before purchasing.

That defined allowance can suit a short cinema trip when you mainly need updates between venues rather than continuous video streaming. If your existing mobile plan already includes sufficient Swedish data, keeping it may be simpler. Mobile data does not supply film admission, reserve a Cineville place or guarantee reception inside an auditorium.

Estimate your needs with the travel data calculator, check phone compatibility, and read when to install an eSIM before travel.

Sources and updates

Details were checked on October 14, 2026, using the festival's programme, ticket, membership, film and FAQ pages, Cineville, Swedavia and SL. Recheck sale windows, availability, prices, subtitle languages, guest appearances, access and dated transport before travelling. This guide will be updated when those arrangements materially change; it covers the 2026 festival rather than every Stockholm cinema or a future edition.
