NEWT launches travel eSIM plans for 215+ countries and areas

August 25, 2026. Japanese travel-booking app NEWT has added a data-only travel eSIM marketplace covering more than 215 countries and areas. Reiwa Travel announced the service on August 17, with online purchase, pre-departure setup, 24/7 support and up to 5% back in NEWT points.

The headline coverage count is broad, but it should not replace the live plan check. NEWT's current selector contains country and regional entries whose public “from” price is blank. A destination appearing in the selector is therefore not proof that a suitable allowance is priced and purchasable for the exact dates.

The traveler decision: NEWT is convenient for a Japan-based user who already books travel in the app and values NEWT points. Roaming eSIM has the edge when the traveler wants an independent, English-language package comparison with allowance, validity, speed and top-up fields visible before choosing a route.

What NEWT eSIM launched

Reiwa Travel's August 17 announcement says NEWT eSIM supports more than 215 countries and areas. Customers can buy through the NEWT app or website, install before departure and connect after reaching the destination.

Published allowance types include 0.5GB, 1GB, 3GB, 5GB, 8GB and unlimited data, but availability and rules vary by destination. The service is data-only and the live page says identity verification is not required. It delivers setup through a QR code rather than a physical card.

NEWT says the connectivity platform has an SLA ceiling of 99.9%. That is a service-level figure, not a promise that one traveler will have 99.9% signal coverage or uninterrupted data at every hotel, station or rural stop.

These are starting prices, not quotations for every trip. The allowance, number of days and unlimited-data policy determine the useful comparison. NEWT's claim that Korea can cost under ¥100 per day applies to stays of at least five days and to the qualifying plan used in its calculation.

Do not compare ¥480 with another provider's 10GB or 30-day plan without first matching the allowance and validity. The live order screen should control if the launch table and current catalog differ.

Why 215+ destinations does not mean 215+ visible prices

The live NEWT selector includes a large country list plus Asia, Europe, Oceania, Africa, Middle East and North Africa, Latin America, Caribbean and global groupings. Some entries expose a numeric starting price. Others return no public priceFrom value in the initial page data.

That does not prove the destination is permanently unavailable. It means the public landing page does not give enough evidence to quote it. A traveler should:

1. select the exact country or region;
2. confirm that a plan is offered for the required dates;
3. open the plan rules, not just the destination tile;
4. verify every country in a regional package;
5. save the order and support route before departure.

NEWT points are useful only inside the NEWT travel account

NEWT advertises up to 5% of the eSIM price back in NEWT points. The rate varies with membership status, and the points are intended for later travel bookings in NEWT.

This can make sense for someone already booking a NEWT tour or hotel. It is not the same as an immediate 5% cash discount, and a traveler who does not expect another NEWT booking may get little value from the credit.

Check the points shown in the order before paying, along with their issue date, expiration and eligible redemption. Do not subtract the maximum advertised rate from the cash price unless the account actually qualifies for that rate and will use the points.

Calls, SMS, local numbers and hotspot

NEWT eSIM is data-only. It does not provide ordinary voice calls, SMS or a destination telephone number. App calls and messages work over data, but local restaurants, ticket sites and verification systems may still require a phone number.

Setup, compatibility and support

The service is designed to be installed before departure so it can connect after arrival. A compatible carrier-unlocked phone and reliable internet are still required for installation. Scan the QR code from another screen or use the manual details if NEWT supplies them.
