Oktoberfest 2026 runs from Saturday, September 19 to Sunday, October 4 at Munich's Theresienwiese. General entry is free, and you do not need a ticket to enter a beer tent. A tent reservation secures a table for a stated session. It is not a festival admission ticket.

• Schwanthalerhöhe is one stop beyond Theresienwiese on U4 and U5.
• Goetheplatz and Poccistraße use U3 and U6 and approach the grounds from the south or east.
• Hackerbrücke is served by the central S-Bahn lines and is about a ten-minute walk away.
• Munich Hauptbahnhof is walkable for visitors who would rather avoid one very short U-Bahn ride.

Use MVGO and enter "Oktoberfest" as the destination. The city says the app can account for current crowding and suggest a route. Save a second station before leaving the hotel because the best arrival stop may not be the best exit after a busy evening.

For airport arrivals, plan the whole route in MVGO or the rail operator's app on the day. Munich Airport requires a longer regional journey into the city, and live engineering work or disruption matters more than a timeless step-by-step route. Do not schedule a tent reservation immediately after the flight without baggage and transfer time.

Driving to the grounds adds road controls and parking uncertainty. If a car is necessary, use an official park-and-ride location outside the immediate area and continue by public transport. A taxi or ride pickup should be set beyond the access controls, not at a pin inside the festival perimeter.

Oktoberfest 2026 bag rules

The current limit is simple: a bag or small backpack can hold up to 3 litres or measure no more than 20cm by 15cm by 10cm. Security staff check bags at the entrances.

The official security page also states:

• Glass bottles are not allowed on the grounds.
• Beverages may be carried onto the grounds, but not into tents or beer gardens.
• Harmful sprays, corrosive or staining substances and objects usable as weapons are prohibited.
• Walking aids and medical devices are allowed after inspection.
• Large luggage must use the paid storage points at selected entrances, subject to capacity.

Do not bring a flight cabin bag to the entrance and assume storage will have room. Leave it at the hotel or station facility before travelling to Theresienwiese. Carry the phone, payment method, accommodation address and medicine in the smallest practical bag.

Oktoberfest with children

A short morning visit can work better than trying to keep a child at the grounds through an evening tent session. Tuesdays are official family days, with reduced prices at many rides and snack stalls until 7pm. The visitor barometer also expects Tuesday afternoons to become busier around the rides.

The published rules include several hard limits:

• Children under six cannot remain in beer tents or catering venues after 8pm, even with a parent or guardian.
• Visitors under 16 can remain on the festival grounds after 8pm only with a parent or guardian.

The evening before
