Outside Lands 2026 guide: schedule, bags and getting there

Outside Lands 2026 runs from Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 9 in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. Gates open at 11am, music starts at noon and the final sets end at 10pm each day. The festival is five days away, and the 2026 map, set times and app are now live.

The useful decisions are no longer about whether the lineup looks good. Check the real set conflicts, measure the bag, decide which park entrance matches your route, and save a return plan that does not depend on finding a rideshare beside the gate at 10pm.

This guide was checked against Outside Lands, SFMTA, San Francisco Recreation and Parks, BART and current attendee discussions on August 2, 2026. The official schedule and transport notices can still change. Recheck them on the morning of your ticket.

Outside Lands 2026 at a glance

Outside Lands draws more than 200,000 visits across the weekend. That scale matters when planning stage changes, transport and phone use. A route that looks simple before noon can be slow when a headliner crowd moves at once.

Use the live schedule instead of a copied timetable

The full 2026 set schedule appeared only days before the festival. Use the official schedule to choose sets and check it again each morning. A graphic saved from another site cannot reflect a late stage or time change.

Charli xcx, The Strokes and RUFUS DU SOL lead the weekend, but the hard part is the overlap beneath them. The park has several stages, and the 2026 map prompted immediate attendee questions about walking between Lands End, Twin Peaks, Sutro and the smaller areas.

Do not build a plan that requires every stage change to work perfectly. A better approach is:

1. Mark two or three non-negotiable sets for the day.
2. Check their stages on the live map, not only their start times.
3. Leave a realistic gap when moving across the park.
4. Pick a backup set for each painful conflict.
5. Save screenshots of the final plan before leaving reliable WiFi.

Attendees commonly estimate 10 to 20 minutes for a cross-park move, but that is not an official promise. Crowds, terrain and the stage you leave can change it. If you want a close position for a headliner, arrive before the previous set finishes rather than planning a last-minute walk from the opposite side.

If the app still shows an old festival

The official app was updated for 2026 on July 30. Some iPhone users reported that the old installation continued to show 2025 until they installed the current store version again.

Start with a normal app update. Open it on WiFi and confirm that the 2026 schedule appears. If it remains stale, remove and reinstall the Outside Lands app, then rebuild the saved schedule. This app is for festival information; do not remove a separate ticket or payment app as part of that fix.

The map also appears on the festival website. Download a copy outside the app so one failed refresh does not remove both your schedule and your bearings.

Choose the entrance before you travel

The public entrances serve opposite sides of the park:

• North Gate is on JFK Drive near 30th Avenue. It works naturally with the 5 Fulton and 5R Fulton Rapid buses.
• South Gate is at Middle Drive and Metson Road. The paid official shuttle drops passengers here, and the N Judah serves the south side of the park.

There is a separate ADA entrance at 36th Avenue and JFK Drive. VIP and Golden Gate Club tickets also have named entrances, so follow the current map and the access printed for the ticket type.

Choose the gate from the whole journey. The nearest gate to a first set may not be the best gate for the hotel, transit line or mobility requirement. Share the gate name with the group before anyone leaves because saying "meet at the entrance" is not specific enough.

Outside Lands bag policy for 2026

The current Outside Lands bag policy permits:

• Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC backpacks and bags.
• One opaque small bag, fanny pack or purse no larger than 6 by 8 by 3 inches.
• An empty dedicated hydration pack with a bladder under 2.5 litres and no more than one additional pocket.

A standard backpack does not become acceptable because it contains a hydration bladder. Non-clear drawstring backpacks are prohibited. If an opaque bag is close to the limit, measure the outside dimensions before travel instead of asking security to judge it in a crowded line.

Do not bring glass, cans, liquids, coolers, picnic baskets, umbrellas, chairs with legs, tents, strollers, wagons, selfie sticks, GoPros, drones or professional camera equipment with a detachable lens longer than two inches. The organizer can also refuse an item it considers unsafe or inappropriate.

The official list does not explicitly ban ordinary outside food, but the container still has to satisfy every other rule. A sandwich in a permitted bag is different from a cooler, picnic basket, glass jar or can. Security has the final decision at entry.

What should go in the bag?

A practical small bag contains the wristband, government photo ID, an empty refillable bottle or permitted hydration pack, a layer for the evening, earplugs, essential medicine, a compact power bank and the correct cable.

Water refill stations are available inside. The festival is cashless at its normal points of sale, accepting cards and digital payments. Grass Lands is the stated exception and still accepts cash. Save a payment fallback in case one phone wallet fails.

Lockers can be reserved for GA, GA+ and VIP. A locker is useful for a jacket or merchandise, but it does not make a prohibited bag acceptable at the gate. Reserve through the link on the official information page and confirm which locker area matches the ticket.

Wristbands, will call and resale

Your wristband is the ticket. Purchases made before July 28 were sent for shipping. Passes bought after that date move to will call at the festival box office in Marx Meadow, at 25th Avenue and Fulton Street.

The 2026 box-office hours are:

If a shipped order has no tracking number during festival week, contact Front Gate Tickets before joining a gate queue. For will call, take the order information and matching government-issued ID. An alternate pickup name must be added through Front Gate Tickets in advance.

Do not tighten the wristband until it sits on the correct person with a little breathing room. A three-day pass uses one wristband for all three days. You cannot remove it and sell one day separately, and a loose or altered wristband can be confiscated.

Outside Lands only guarantees purchases from Front Gate Tickets. It identifies Ticketmaster Verified Exchange as the official resale route. A social post, payment request or photograph of a wristband does not verify that it will scan. Replacement is limited to qualifying official orders, requires the order number and ID, and carries a $25 fee.

Same-day re-entry is generally not allowed. If an emergency requires you to leave and return, speak to a supervisor at the exit before being scanned out. Walking out first and asking later is not the same process.

How to get to Outside Lands

There is no general parking at the festival. The surrounding neighborhoods have limited, enforced parking, while park roads and entrances close around the event. The city's 2026 closure notice says vehicle access to the west side of Golden Gate Park is restricted from Thursday night through Sunday at 11pm.

Muni

SFMTA has published 2026 service guidance through its Outside Lands page:

• Before the event, take the 5 Fulton or 5R Fulton Rapid from downtown to Fulton Street and 30th Avenue for the North Gate.
• Extra N Judah trains run along the normal route for the south side.
• After the event, special 5X Civic Center Express buses run from Fulton Street and 30th Avenue to Civic Center/UN Plaza BART.
• Extra N Judah service continues at its normal stops.

Build the return journey before you enter the park. Save the last practical BART, Caltrain or regional connection, then leave a buffer for walking and the Muni queue. The music ends at 10pm, but you will not be standing on a downtown platform at 10:01.

Official shuttle

The prepaid round-trip shuttle leaves Bill Graham Civic Auditorium near Civic Center BART and drops at the South Gate. It starts at 11am each day and runs continuously, with limited coverage between 5pm and 8pm. The last outbound shuttle leaves at 8pm. Return service continues until one hour after the music ends.

A shuttle pass does not include parking at Bill Graham. Use public transport to reach the auditorium or arrange parking separately. If your hotel is near BART, the shuttle can reduce the number of decisions after the final set, but you still need a route from Civic Center to the hotel.

BART, bike and rideshare

BART says trains run toward Millbrae until about 1am and toward the East Bay until about 12:30am on festival nights. Check the BART Trip Planner for the exact station and transfer. Civic Center is the useful interchange for the event shuttle and post-event 5X.

Free self-park bicycle areas sit on the eastern and southern sides of the event. Bay Wheels plans staffed docks near the North and South entrances. Availability can still tighten when the park empties, so keep a second route.

Official rideshare pickup and drop-off points are Balboa Street at 30th Avenue and Irving Street between 25th and 27th avenues. The organizer also recommends Geary Boulevard or Balboa Street north of the park and Irving Street to the south for ordinary drop-offs. Do not set the pin inside Golden Gate Park or assume a driver can cross a closure.

Make the 10pm exit plan now

The exit is the part most likely to expose a weak plan. Thousands of people move toward the same buses, trains and rideshare zones, while some regional services are approaching their final departures.

Choose one primary route and one fallback:

Never treat a connection time in this table as guaranteed. Check the live planner for your night. If missing the last regional train would leave you stranded, depart the final set early or arrange a realistic alternative before the day.

Set a physical meeting point outside the densest stage area. It should be precise, easy to describe and reachable without a message. A dropped pin is useful, but a pin alone does not help when the map will not load.

Weather and what to wear

Golden Gate Park sits close to the Pacific, and an afternoon that feels comfortable can turn cool, damp and windy after sunset. Check the National Weather Service forecast for the park area each morning, not only a generic San Francisco forecast from days earlier.

Bring a packable jacket or warm overshirt even if the daytime forecast looks mild. Umbrellas are prohibited, so use a light waterproof layer if rain appears possible. Comfortable shoes should handle grass, slopes and dirt. This is not a flat paved arena, and the accessibility guide warns that the outdoor site contains varied terrain.

Sun protection still matters under broken cloud. Apply sunscreen before entry and check the current item rules before putting another container in the bag.

Access, mobility and medicine

The designated ADA entrance and Access Center are at 36th Avenue and JFK Drive. The official accessibility guide says the center operates from gate opening through the end of the night. It provides accessibility information, viewing-platform wristbands, golf-cart dispatch, assistive listening devices and power for wheelchairs or scooters.

Golf-cart capacity is limited to the disabled attendee and one companion, and waits are possible. Accessible viewing platforms are offered at Lands End, Sutro and Twin Peaks, with accessible restrooms nearby. Capacity is not unlimited, so arrive early for a high-demand set.

Prescriptions need the pharmacy label, and the name must match photo ID. A personal amount of food for a medical dietary restriction may be allowed with a doctor's note. Contact [email protected] before the weekend when a medical item or accommodation is not covered clearly by the published rules.

Apps to set up before Friday

Install, sign in and open these tools before leaving reliable WiFi:

• Outside Lands app for the live schedule, personal set plan, map and event updates.
• MuniMobile or Clipper for supported Muni fares and transit account tasks.
• BART app or Trip Planner for regional train times and service notices.
• 511 SF Bay for multi-operator route planning and arrivals.
• Apple Maps or Google Maps with Golden Gate Park, the hotel and the return corridor saved offline.
• A weather app backed by the National Weather Service forecast.

Keep screenshots of the day's essential sets, festival map, chosen entrance, hotel address, transit plan and box-office location. Open the payment apps once and confirm they do not need an email code you cannot receive.

Charge the phone and power bank before each day. Airlines have separate carry-on and capacity rules for spare batteries, so international visitors should check the power-bank flight guide before packing.

Phone service inside Golden Gate Park

More than 200,000 visits across three days can put local mobile networks under pressure. A phone may work normally at lunch and struggle to send media during a headline set. That does not automatically mean the data plan is broken.

Prepare for congestion instead of trying to fix it in the crowd:

• Send the meeting point before the busiest sets.
• Keep the schedule and map offline.
• Use short text messages instead of large video uploads when service slows.
• Save the hotel address and return route in plain text.
• Put the phone in a closed front pocket or secured bag when moving through a bottleneck.

International visitors can use a Roaming eSIM for airport arrivals, city maps, Muni and BART planning, hotel messages and the rest of the San Francisco trip. A United States plan fits a US-only journey. A North America plan can suit a route that also includes Canada or Mexico. The product card shows the current allowance and validity before checkout.

Install the Roaming eSIM before travel and keep the home SIM for calls or bank messages when needed, with home-line data roaming disabled unless the carrier plan covers it. A Roaming eSIM cannot add capacity to a congested cell site. Offline preparation still matters, regardless of which network or plan you use.

Outside Lands day-before checklist

1. Open the current schedule and rebuild any plan made from an older graphic.
2. Download the 2026 map and save the group meeting point.
3. Measure the bag and compare every unusual item with the official policy.
4. Register the wristband and check that it belongs to the correct ticket holder.
5. Contact Front Gate Tickets if a shipped order still lacks tracking.
6. Save the inbound route, chosen entrance and last practical route home.
7. Check the park-area forecast and pack a warm layer.
8. Fill the phone offline library with the schedule, map, hotel address and transport screenshots.
9. Charge the phone and power bank and pack the matching cable.
10. Recheck the festival, SFMTA and BART pages before leaving.

Outside Lands is easier when the plan survives a slow phone. Keep the schedule flexible, carry a bag that clearly meets the rule, and know how you will leave Golden Gate Park before the last set starts.
