povo gives a second overseas data Topping through September 30

August 11, 2026. povo2.0 customers with an eligible Calls+Data plan can receive a second matching overseas data allowance when they buy an Overseas data Topping by September 30. The benefit arrives as a code by email and must be entered by November 10, 2026.

povo announced the current campaign on July 14. It applies to every Overseas data Topping, including area, regular and wide options. No campaign entry is required, and each qualifying purchase earns one matching bonus.

The traveler decision: This is useful for an existing povo Calls+Data customer who can use the same allowance twice before the code and travel windows close. It is not one doubled allowance. The paid Topping and bonus run one after the other, and the campaign does not work with povo2.0 Data Only.

What the current povo overseas roaming campaign includes

The current offer runs from July 14 at 10:00 through September 30 at 23:59. povo's English announcement does not label a time zone, so do not leave the purchase until the final hour if eligibility matters.

The word "same" matters. Buying the South Korea 1GB for 3 days Topping earns a South Korea 1GB for 3 days bonus. It does not become 2GB in one 3-day period, and it cannot be changed into a United States or Europe bonus.

The second Topping is sequential, not simultaneous

povo sends the bonus code to the email address registered on the account, normally immediately after purchase. The detailed campaign terms say the bonus cannot be applied while the paid Topping is active. povo also blocks the purchase or application of another overseas Topping while one is in use.

That creates a simple order:

1. Buy a qualifying Overseas data Topping by September 30.
2. Receive and save the matching bonus code.
3. Use or finish the paid Topping.
4. Open Promo Code in the povo2.0 app.
5. Paste the code by November 10 at 23:59.
6. Use the matching bonus after it starts in a supported area.

The bonus can fit the second part of a longer stay or a later trip covered by the same Topping. It is less useful when the traveler needs one larger allowance at the same time, changes destination groups, or cannot complete the second use within the deadlines.

There are two timing windows to manage

The November 10 deadline is only the last time to enter the bonus code. It is not the only clock.

When a paid Topping is purchased outside its supported area, it waits for the first supported data connection for up to 30 days. Its stated validity begins when that connection occurs. The bonus gets its own 30-day waiting period after the code is applied, and its validity begins when it first connects in a supported area.

Taken together, the rules create a late-purchase trap. If the paid Topping is still active when the November 10 input deadline arrives, the app will not let the customer apply the bonus. A traveler buying near September 30 should choose a start date and validity that leave time to enter the code after the paid allowance ends.

Do not buy a Topping more than 30 days before the trip. Do not apply the bonus early if the next supported connection is more than 30 days away. The Roaming eSIM installation timing guide explains the wider difference between installing a profile and starting a plan.

Who is eligible for the povo bonus?

The campaign is for povo2.0 customers who can buy Overseas data Toppings through the app. The main exclusion is explicit: povo2.0 Data Only cannot buy them. The inbound Japan SIM base plan also does not provide international roaming, so this is not a visitor benefit for someone buying povo data after landing in Japan.

povo's current campaign page adds another check for newer accounts. Customers who joined on or after October 3, 2025 must complete the company's prescribed application by contacting povo support chat after joining. Existing users should open the app before travel and confirm that International Roaming shows as on.

Japanese travelers comparing home-line benefits should also check the LINEMO September 2026 overseas data change. That separate page covers LINEMO's permanent seven-day monthly allowance, eligible Best Plans and pre-winter pass restriction rather than povo's matching-code campaign.

The campaign is attached to the mobile plan, not to one SIM format. A qualifying povo line can use a physical SIM or eSIM on a supported device. A traveler still needs to confirm that the specific phone and the partner network at the destination support the required service.

Current povo area Topping prices and coverage

povo publishes smaller area Toppings for common routes and broader regular and wide options. These prices were checked on August 11, 2026.

The Europe area Topping lists the United Kingdom, Italy, Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, France and Belgium, plus named territories. It excludes French Guiana and the British Virgin Islands. The United States option includes Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands but excludes Guam and Saipan.

The regular range covers more than 90 countries and offers 0.5GB for 24 hours through 10GB for 30 days. The wide option reaches more than 160 countries but currently lists only 0.3GB for 30 days at 6,980 yen. A broad country count is therefore not a substitute for checking useful allowance and price.

Calls, SMS and the Japanese phone number are separate

The overseas data bonus does not make voice calls or outgoing SMS free. povo's Calls+Data service can use the Japanese number for calls and SMS in more than 200 countries and regions, but destination rates apply. Receiving SMS is listed as free; receiving a voice call is not.

For example, povo currently lists incoming voice calls at 70 yen per minute in South Korea, 165 yen per minute in the United States and 155 yen per minute in Thailand. It lists outgoing SMS at 100 yen per transaction for the examples on its page. These rates can change and message length can affect charging.

A traveler who only needs bank codes may prefer to keep the povo line available for incoming SMS while using a separate Roaming eSIM for data. Hotspot works, but the allowance does not increase

povo's current Overseas data Topping details confirm that tethering is allowed. Device model and destination can still affect availability.

Every connected device uses the same Topping. A laptop update, cloud backup or video call can finish 1GB quickly, and povo does not send remaining-data notifications for overseas use. What to check before departure

Complete the account and device work while reliable Wi-Fi and identity documents are easy to access.

1. Confirm that the line is povo2.0 Calls+Data, not Data Only or Japan SIM.
2. If the line was opened on or after October 3, 2025, complete the support-chat application for international roaming.
3. Update the povo2.0 app to version 1.7.0 or later and log in before departure.
4. Check that International Roaming is on in the app. povo says support may need to change the setting after identity verification.
5. Confirm the exact Topping covers every country and territory on the route.
6. Buy no more than 30 days before the first supported connection.
7. Allow mail from [email protected] and save the bonus code outside the email app.
8. Turn on data roaming for the povo line only when it is the selected data line.
9. Record the September 30 purchase deadline and November 10 code deadline.
10. Download a map, hotel address and first transport route in case the partner network does not connect immediately.

If the phone does not connect, povo advises checking roaming settings, restarting the device and trying manual network selection. povo overseas roaming versus Roaming eSIM

An eligible povo customer who can use both matching allowances should consider the campaign. A separate data purchase is not automatically better than a benefit already attached to a working Japanese line.

Roaming eSIM has the clearer edge when the traveler does not have an eligible povo Calls+Data account, needs a different destination or allowance for the second trip, wants package information on the open web, or prefers to keep the Japanese line away from mobile data while it receives SMS.

🏆 Roaming eSIM wins for open choice without povo eligibility: travelers can compare a live country, regional or global package before checkout and keep the usual Japanese line separate for calls and incoming SMS. povo wins when an eligible customer can use both identical allowances within the campaign clocks.

This is not a blanket price or speed claim. The campaign can make a small povo area Topping good value for a qualifying customer. Compare the same destination, allowance, validity, hotspot rule and expected calls before deciding.

Four current Roaming eSIM route checks

The public Roaming eSIM package endpoint was checked on August 11. It returned 37 United States plans, 33 South Korea plans, 34 Thailand plans and 17 Germany plans. Those counts show current choice, not guaranteed availability for a later checkout.

Ten answers povo travelers need before buying

1. Do I need to enter the campaign? No. Buy an eligible Overseas data Topping through the povo2.0 app during the campaign.
2. Do I get twice the data immediately? No. You receive a code for one matching bonus that can be applied only after the paid Topping finishes.
3. When should the code arrive? povo says normally immediately by email. The registered address must receive mail from [email protected].
4. Can Data Only customers use the offer? No. povo explicitly excludes the Data Only plan from Overseas data Topping purchases.
5. When does a Topping start? It starts on the first data connection in a supported area, provided that connection occurs within the 30-day standby period.
6. Can I save the bonus for another trip? Yes if the later trip uses the same Topping coverage, the code is applied by November 10 and the bonus connects within 30 days of application.
7. Can I run or stack the two allowances together? No. The active paid Topping must finish before the bonus can be applied.
8. Does the bonus include free calls and SMS? No. The campaign covers overseas data; calls and outgoing SMS follow separate roaming rates. Incoming SMS is listed as free.
9. Can I share the data by hotspot? Yes. povo confirms tethering, subject to the phone and destination, and every device uses the same allowance.
10. When is Roaming eSIM the better fit? When the traveler is not an eligible povo customer, wants a different second route or allowance, or wants a separate data line with open package details and 24/7 support.
