Púca Festival runs October 29-November 1, 2026, in Trim and Athboy, County Meath. The free Trim procession is on Friday, October 30; Athboy's free Samhain Fire is on Saturday, October 31. Paid concerts, circus performances, tours and grandstand seats are separate choices. Pick your event and town, then arrange the journey home before booking a late show. Official dates and visitor rules.

The programme brings together Irish folklore, storytelling, crafts, music and fire performance around Samhain. It is not one enclosed festival with a ticket covering everything. A daytime market visit, a standing procession and a booked evening performance make very different trips.

Which day and town should you choose?

All times below are local Irish time. The organizer marks performance start times as subject to change; check the individual listing again before travelling.

Music, comedy, circus or guided experiencesThe venue and date on your chosen listingBook that specific event; check its age limit

The free procession listing and paid seating listing describe different ways to watch the same procession. You do not need the €50 seat just to see it from an ordinary standing position. Equally, free standing admission does not reserve you a covered seat.

The Samhain Fire listing places Saturday's gathering in Athboy, not at Trim Castle. Its opening time remains to be confirmed even though a provisional show start is listed. Avoid booking two events in different towns so close together that a shuttle delay would make you late.

How do Púca Festival tickets work?

Start with the official programme, not a search result showing a price for one performance. Check four details before paying:

  1. Event name: a concert ticket is not a pass for every festival activity.
  2. Town and venue: Trim and Athboy are separate stops.
  3. Date, start time and age restriction: the festival's overall dates do not describe every performance.
  4. Transport: confirm whether a coach journey is included, separately bookable or unrelated to the event ticket.

For a lower-cost visit, build the day around markets and one of the free standing events. Buy a performance because you want to see that act, not because you assume payment unlocks the rest of the festival. Workshops and guided experiences may have their own reservations even when they take place near a market.

If your priority is folklore rather than a concert, leave time for storytelling or a heritage experience from the programme. Check its actual description: a modern festival drawing on Samhain traditions is not a guarantee of a particular spiritual ceremony.

Getting to Púca Festival from Dublin

You can visit without a car, but the outward bus is only half the plan. Choose the return for the actual finishing time of your event, including time to leave the venue and reach the stop.

Transport for Ireland's festival page identifies these public routes:

RouteUseful connectionPlanning check
Bus Éireann 111Dublin Busáras to Trim and AthboySearch the exact date, direction and return departure
Route 188Navan to AthboyUseful only if your accommodation and return fit the timetable
Route 190Navan to TrimCheck the correct stop and the evening service

Use TFI Live for public-service departures and journey planning. Do not assume that a private festival coach appears in the same real-time feed.

The organizer also confirms dedicated 2026 festival coaches, including departures from Dublin and several regional towns. Follow its current travel page to the booking service and read the selected journey's pickup point, destination and return conditions. An old coach PDF or another day's booking is not a current timetable.

Can you get back to Dublin after a late show?

Only commit to a late performance once you have a workable return. A scheduled public bus may finish before the show, while a festival coach may require a separate reservation. If neither fits, choose an earlier event or nearby accommodation with a confirmed onward journey.

Do not rely on finding an available taxi after everyone leaves. A pre-arranged transfer can be a fallback, but confirm the pickup, price and cancellation terms directly with the provider. A phone app cannot guarantee a car will be available in a smaller town at closing time.

Is there a train directly to the festival?

No direct festival-station connection is listed. TFI describes taking a Dublin Connolly service to Enfield, then continuing by road to Trim or Athboy. That extra leg makes a train less straightforward than it first sounds, particularly for an evening return. Check both legs through the operator before choosing it.

For a flight arrival, allow time for baggage and the onward transfer before reserving a fixed-time event. Check airport-to-festival options for your arrival date rather than assuming a general Dublin Airport bus runs directly to the correct venue.

How does the Trim-Athboy shuttle work?

The organizer says a complimentary hourly shuttle will connect the two towns during the festival, with a journey of roughly 20-30 minutes. That is the inter-town ride, not the complete travel time from Dublin or your hotel.

There is a timetable detail worth checking before you plan around it. TFI currently publishes shuttle stops and times, including Trim Ring Road at The Bridge and the Athboy stop at Fagan's Pub opposite the Garda station. The organizer's travel page still says its timetable will be posted soon. Treat the detailed departure times as provisional until the current arrangements are confirmed.

Leave room for queues and the walk from the stop. Most importantly, this shuttle connects Trim and Athboy; it is not your return coach to Dublin. Save the correct departure point for each service so you do not end the night at the wrong stop.

Where should you stay if Trim is booked?

A bed farther away is useful only if the transport works. The organizer's trip-planning page lists accommodation around Meath and nearby areas. Compare each property's location with a current public route or a festival-coach pickup before reserving.

For a Friday procession visit, a Trim base reduces transfers. For Saturday's fire gathering, an Athboy base may suit better. Navan or another coach-served town can work, but check the final journey back to the property rather than judging distance alone.

Ask the accommodation provider about late arrival and breakfast or checkout timing if you plan a late show followed by travel. Do not assume festival-wide availability or a guaranteed shuttle to a hotel simply because it appears on a recommended list.

A realistic one-day or two-day festival plan

Friday: markets and the Trim procession

Arrive with enough daylight to find the venue and your return stop. Browse the Porchfields market, eat, then head to your chosen standing position or booked grandstand for the currently listed 18:00 procession. Add a concert only if its booking, age limit and return journey all fit.

Saturday: Athboy and the Samhain Fire

Make Athboy the main destination. Allow a slower afternoon for the Fairgreen market before the currently listed 17:30 fire event. If you visit Trim first, take an earlier shuttle rather than the last possible connection.

Two days: one town each evening

Friday in Trim and Saturday in Athboy is easier to manage than repeatedly switching towns for every activity. Leave daytime gaps for meals, weather and travel. More performances do not necessarily make a better visit if you spend the intervals rushing between stops.

If you also want Dublin's Gothic festival, check our Bram Stoker Festival guide: it runs October 23-26, not on Púca's Halloween weekend. For a longer trip with children, use the separate Ireland with kids guide to plan the rest of the route.

Bags, age limits, parking and accessibility

The essential information page permits bags up to 40cm × 40cm × 20cm and excludes large rucksacks, suitcases and oversized luggage. Leave travel luggage at your accommodation under an agreed storage arrangement; do not arrive expecting festival lockers. Outside alcohol is prohibited.

Big Top events are strictly 16+; Samhain Circus is strictly 18+. The organizer says other events have no age restrictions, but that does not mean every experience suits a small child. Check the performance description and consider standing time, darkness, sound and fire effects before choosing.

Free parking is listed at Trim Porchfields. Athboy parking is limited, and the organizer recommends the inter-town shuttle. Check current traffic instructions close to the visit. The market page includes an older road-closure notice explicitly labelled 2025; do not use it as a 2026 driving plan.

The accessibility page lists a dedicated Big Top viewing platform, accessible toilets at key locations and quiet tents in both festival towns. It describes most outdoor areas and venues as wheelchair-accessible, not every route or performance. Contact the organizer about your particular event, step-free approach, viewing position and any companion arrangement. Paid covered seating should not be assumed to meet every access need.

Useful apps and what to save offline

  • TFI Live: public transport journey planning, timetables and real-time departures. Save the stops for the direction you need.
  • Your ticket confirmation: keep the event name, town, booking reference and any issued entry code available offline. Follow the issuer's instructions if a live or changing ticket is required.
  • Your map app: download the relevant area and save your accommodation, venue, meeting point and both return stops.
  • Your usual messaging app: agree on a meeting place and a time to regroup if someone loses their connection or battery.

Bring a charged phone, a power bank and clothing for an outdoor evening. Check the current forecast nearer the date; an October trip needs a rain plan, not a promise of a dry procession. A screenshot helps with directions but will not show a changed departure or cancellation.

Mobile data for the festival and onward travel

Mobile data is useful for checking the next public bus, contacting accommodation and finding the correct pickup point. OpenSim's Ireland plan is a practical option for a visitor who needs a defined allowance for those tasks: the live catalogue checked October 12 lists a 5GB, 30-day plan at US$4.76, with eligible top-up support and eir among its listed network details. Confirm the current price and selected plan on the Ireland product page.

That allowance and validity can suit a festival visit within a longer Irish trip without buying a separate daily allowance for every day. It is not a promise of a fast connection in a crowd. If your existing mobile plan already includes enough Ireland roaming data, using it may be simpler and you may not need another purchase.

For an onward European itinerary, compare a Europe plan that includes Ireland and your other stops rather than buying country plans automatically. Before buying, check phone compatibility, use the travel data calculator, and read when to install your eSIM. Keep the essential tickets and directions offline whichever connection you choose.

Púca programme sources and timetable updates

Dates, tickets and visitor rules were checked against the linked Púca organizer pages; public routes and apps were checked against Transport for Ireland on October 11, 2026. The shuttle timetable is the main detail still needing confirmation across the official pages. Recheck the organizer's travel and individual event listings before October 29, particularly after a new timetable, programme change or licence update.
