Ryanair's 60-minute bag-drop deadline: November 2026 guide

The new cutoff is tied to the scheduled departure time. If a flight is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., airport check-in and bag drop are due to close at 9:00 a.m. from November 10. A delay shown later in the day should not be treated as permission to arrive after that original deadline unless Ryanair gives a different instruction for the booking.
Ryanair says the change is intended to leave more time after bag drop for security and passport control. The carrier estimates that about 20% of its passengers check a bag. It says passengers who check in online and travel without checked baggage are not affected by the new bag-drop cutoff.
Online check-in still has a different deadline
The 60-minute rule does not extend online check-in. Ryanair's check-in guidance says web and app check-in close two hours before departure. Without a reserved seat, check-in normally opens 24 hours before the flight. With a reserved seat, it can open up to 60 days before departure when both flights in the booking fall inside that window.
This creates three separate clocks:
- Complete online check-in before the two-hour cutoff.
- Finish any airport check-in, document check or checked-bag acceptance before the 60-minute cutoff from November 10.
- Reach the boarding gate before its separate 30-minute deadline.
Do not wait until the last minutes of online check-in if the app needs a document scan or a third-party booking needs verification. A queue is not a useful arrival target
Ryanair describes the airport cutoff as strict. Its current airport timing page advises reaching check-in or bag drop at least two hours before departure and checking baggage as early as possible.
Plan to have the bag tagged and accepted before the cutoff, not merely to be standing in line. Counter staffing, a kiosk error, an overweight bag, a document query or several flights sharing one area can turn a short queue into a missed deadline. Ryanair says self-service bag-drop kiosks will be available at more than 95% of its airports by October, while staffed desks will remain. Who needs the airport desk
A checked-in passenger with no hold bag can normally go to security after following the airport's access process. Other passengers still need an airport service, including:
- anyone dropping a 10 kg, 20 kg or 23 kg checked bag;
- a passenger who has not completed online check-in;
- someone directed to manual travel-document verification;
- a traveler using an airport process required by the departure country;
- a passenger checking baby equipment or approved special equipment;

The new airport deadline does not create a new fee for a passenger who has already checked in online and only needs to drop a paid checked bag. It does mean someone who misses online check-in has less time to finish paid airport check-in before the flight closes.

That fallback does not reopen a missed check-in, bag-drop or gate deadline. Save the pass in the app before leaving reliable internet, keep the phone charged and carry the required physical travel documents.
Country-specific handling can differ. Ryanair publishes a separate boarding-pass process for departures from Morocco, with digital passes now accepted at some named Moroccan airports and a printed airport pass required at others. Follow the departure-airport instruction in the app instead of applying one country's process across the network.
The gate is another hard boundary. Ryanair currently tells passengers to be there no later than 30 minutes before departure and says its gates close at that point. Use this sequence for a flight on or after November 10:
- Confirm the scheduled departure time and departure airport in the booking.
- Complete online check-in before the two-hour cutoff, preferably much earlier.
- Save the digital boarding pass in the Ryanair app and keep the booking reference offline.
- Check whether any passenger has a restricted pass or needs a document desk.
- Confirm every checked bag and special item in the booking before traveling to the airport.
- Reach the relevant desk or bag-drop area at least two hours before departure, or earlier when the airport or assistance instruction says so.
- Finish bag acceptance before the 60-minute deadline.
- Go directly through security and any passport control, then monitor the live gate.
- Be at the gate before the separate 30-minute cutoff.
Passengers using pre-booked special assistance should follow the airport's assistance instruction as well as the airline deadlines. Ryanair currently asks them to present at the assistance desk at least two hours before departure and to reach the gate at least 30 minutes before departure.
