SAIB adds a travel eSIM for 124 countries inside its banking app

August 11, 2026. The Saudi Investment Bank now lets its customers buy and activate travel eSIM packages inside the SAIB Travel App. The bank says the service covers 124 countries and provides mobile data through a choice of country and regional packages.
The service moved from plan to launch during 2026. SAIB's February investor presentation said an eSIM was on the way, and a June 1 public post from the project's manager later marked it as launched. The bank's current English and Arabic product pages now give customers a seven-step purchase and installation path.
The main limitation is public comparison. SAIB says app users see clear prices before purchase, but its open website does not show the 124-country list, data allowances, validity periods, prices, currencies, destination operators or named connectivity provider. Travelers need to inspect the exact in-app package before relying on it.
The traveler decision: SAIB eSIM is convenient for an existing bank customer who wants travel data beside their card and currency tools. Choose a separate Roaming eSIM when you want to compare route-specific package terms and listed operator options on the open web, do not have a SAIB account, or prefer connectivity that is independent of a banking login.
What SAIB has confirmed about its travel eSIM
The SAIB eSIM service page confirms a short list of useful facts.
| Published feature | What it means for a traveler |
|---|---|
| Customer eligibility | The service is available to SAIB customers through the Travel App |
| 124 countries | Country and regional packages are offered, but the complete destination list is not published on the open site |
| Mobile data | The general Travel App page describes purchasing, activating and managing mobile data in the app |
| Instant activation | SAIB says the eSIM can be activated in the app before departure or upon arrival |
| In-app checkout | The traveler selects a region or country, a package and a payment method before installing the profile |
| App-based support | Technical issues, inquiries and complaints go to the service provider's support team through the Travel App |
| Customer checks | The buyer is responsible for eSIM compatibility and for selecting the correct destination and package |
SAIB also says it is not responsible for network quality, coverage, speed, technical issues, activation delays, or provider and operator changes to package price and availability. The provider and destination network therefore matter to the purchase decision. The bank is the purchase channel, while another company appears to deliver the connectivity and technical support.
The launch was easy to miss
SAIB's FY2025 investor presentation described the revamped Travel App and said services such as eSIM were still on the way. On June 1, the project's manager publicly marked the global eSIM service as launched, alongside a bank post promoting worldwide internet access.
There was little independent traveler coverage. Exact searches mainly returned SAIB's current pages, the two app stores, the investor deck and the launch post. That explains why the development could be missed by an eSIM-only news scan: it appeared through a Saudi banking and travel-finance channel rather than a carrier or specialist eSIM newsroom.
The story is still useful because the product remains live and the operational questions are current. This report does not present the service as an August launch.
Is SAIB eSIM available on Android and iPhone?
The SAIB Travel App is listed on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Both listings showed version 1.30.1, last updated May 14, when checked on August 11. Apple's listing requires iOS 15.1 or later and labels the app as iPhone-only.
Neither store description mentioned the eSIM feature at the time of the check. That does not show the service is missing: SAIB's current product page gives direct in-app instructions and describes it as available to customers. It does mean the store listing is not enough to confirm that a particular account, phone or destination package will work.
Update the app, sign in before the trip and make sure the eSIM section is visible. If it is missing, ask SAIB whether the account or app version is eligible rather than waiting until airport Wi-Fi is the only connection.
Who can buy the SAIB travel eSIM?
SAIB says the service is available to all of its customers through the Travel App. It is not presented as a public checkout for any visitor who downloads the app.
The Travel App also supports account and Travel Card functions, but the eSIM page does not explain whether a new customer must complete account opening, hold a particular card, maintain a balance or meet another status check before buying data. Existing customers should confirm access in their own app. Non-customers should not assume that installing the app creates immediate eSIM eligibility.
This account requirement is the clearest difference from a specialist travel eSIM. A banking integration can be convenient, but it couples the data purchase and support route to a financial-services login.
Which 124 countries and packages are included?
SAIB does not publish the complete 124-country list on its open website. It also does not show the available data sizes, validity periods, prices, billing currencies, regional boundaries or operators for each destination.
The general Travel App page says customers receive clear, upfront pricing inside the app. Before payment, capture these details for the exact package:
- every country on the itinerary, including airport connections and side trips;
- the data allowance and whether it is fixed or has a daily high-speed limit;
- the validity period and what event starts the clock;
- the full retail price and payment currency;
- the destination operator or operator options;
- the network-speed label and any fair-use rule;
- whether ordinary phone hotspot use is allowed;
- whether more data can be added to the installed profile;
- the refund rule before and after installation;
- what happens after a phone change, deletion or failed installation.
A 124-country headline does not mean one purchased plan covers all 124 countries. SAIB asks the customer to select a region or country and then a package. Check every stop by name. Our country versus regional eSIM guide explains how to compare the two approaches.
When does the SAIB eSIM activate?
SAIB says customers can buy and activate the eSIM before departure or upon arrival. The specific service page describes installing the eSIM and then says it is activated, while the product introduction focuses on connectivity upon arrival.
The public material does not define when paid validity begins. Installation, profile activation and first connection are different events across the travel eSIM market. A traveler should not assume that installing early preserves every plan's full duration, or that waiting until arrival is required.
Read the in-app package terms before tapping the final install or activation control. If the trigger is unclear, ask the provider support team through the app and save the answer. Our installation timing guide covers the practical preparation steps without guessing this package's clock.
Does it include calls, SMS or a Saudi number?
SAIB describes the product as mobile data and internet connectivity. Do not treat those features as included unless the selected in-app package states them.
Internet calling and messaging apps can use the eSIM's data, subject to local service availability and app restrictions. That is different from receiving an ordinary call or verification text on a Saudi mobile number.
Travelers who need their usual number can keep the home line active on a compatible dual-SIM phone and select the travel eSIM for mobile data. Turn off data roaming on the home line and disable automatic mobile-data switching. Receiving an OTP depends on the home carrier, roaming status and destination network; a travel data plan does not repair a home line that has no roaming service. Read the calls and SMS guide before depending on that setup for banking or account access.
Hotspot, transfer and refund rules are not public
SAIB's open pages do not answer whether a phone hotspot is allowed, whether the same profile can be reinstalled or moved to another phone, how unused data is handled, or when a refund is available. They direct technical inquiries and complaints to the service provider's team inside the Travel App, but they do not name that provider or publish its eSIM support hours.
These are purchase questions, not edge cases. A traveler working from a laptop needs the hotspot answer before buying. A customer changing phones needs to know whether deleting the profile also loses the plan. A buyer whose destination is removed needs a visible refund route.
Until SAIB publishes those rules, keep the eSIM installed, save the order and package screen outside the app, and contact the in-app provider support before deleting, transferring or repurchasing anything.
SAIB eSIM or Roaming eSIM: which is the better fit?
SAIB has the stronger single-app experience for an existing customer who already manages travel money there. Roaming eSIM has the stronger open comparison and account-independent purchase path.
π Roaming eSIM wins for transparent, account-independent plan choice: travelers can inspect live route options without opening a bank account and see package-level terms before checkout. SAIB wins when an existing customer values one app for travel money and data more than an open catalog.
This is not a universal price or performance claim. SAIB does not publish comparable route prices, and no provider can guarantee signal at every hotel, road or airport. Compare the exact package for the same destination, allowance and validity period.
Four live route examples outside the SAIB app
The Roaming eSIM public package endpoint was checked on August 11. It returned 19 United Arab Emirates plans, 19 Turkey plans, 18 United Kingdom plans and 17 Egypt plans. The results exposed retail price, allowance, validity, speed, operator options and package-level top-up status before checkout.
These four routes are examples for outbound travel, not a claim about SAIB customer demand. Open the page that matches the itinerary:
The shared product section below is capped at four cards. Prices and plan counts can change, and a listed operator is a supported network option rather than a coverage guarantee at every address.

Ten questions travelers ask about SAIB eSIM
- Is SAIB eSIM live now? Yes. The bank's current product pages describe the service as available and provide the in-app purchase and installation path.
- Who can use it? SAIB says the service is for its customers through the Travel App. The open page does not set out any additional account or card requirement.
- Does it work on Android and iPhone? The Travel App is listed on both Google Play and Apple's App Store. The phone itself must also support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.
- Which 124 countries are included? SAIB does not publish the complete list on the open web. Check every stop in the app.
- What data sizes, prices and validity periods are available? The public page does not list them. SAIB says prices are shown before purchase in the app.
- When does validity begin? The open terms do not define whether the clock starts at purchase, installation, activation or first connection.
- Does it include calls, SMS or a local number? SAIB describes mobile data and internet access but does not confirm those features publicly.
- Can I keep my Saudi number active for OTP messages? A compatible dual-SIM phone can keep both lines enabled, but OTP receipt depends on the home carrier's roaming service and may involve carrier charges.
- Can I share data with a laptop or move the eSIM to a new phone? Hotspot and device-transfer rules are not stated on the public page. Ask the in-app provider support before relying on either.
- Is SAIB or Roaming eSIM better? SAIB suits an existing customer who wants banking and connectivity in one app. Roaming eSIM is better for public route comparison, no bank-account dependency and a visible 24/7 support path.
Sources and updates
SAIB's English and Arabic eSIM pages established customer eligibility, 124-country coverage, the purchase steps, customer responsibilities and the in-app provider-support route. The current Travel App page established mobile-data management, pre-departure or arrival activation and in-app price visibility. The February investor presentation showed the eSIM was previously planned, while the public project-manager post established the later launch.
Google Play and Apple's App Store were checked for current platform availability, version history, device requirements and description wording. Exact searches across SAIB eSIM, Saudi Investment Bank eSIM and the Arabic product name found no independent focused article that resolved the traveler questions above.
Live Roaming eSIM package endpoints supplied the four route counts and public comparison fields.
Update policy: We will revise this story when SAIB publishes the 124-country list, identifies the connectivity provider or destination operators, changes eligibility, adds public package and price details, explains the validity trigger, or documents calls, SMS, local numbers, hotspot, top-up, transfer, refund and support-hour rules.
