Saijo Sake Festival takes place October 10 and 11, 2026, in Higashihiroshima, near Hiroshima. You can visit the town festival without buying the enclosed Sake Hiroba tasting ticket. Buy that ticket only if you want its timed sake session, and choose your session before planning the rest of the day.

The organizer's 2026 programme runs from 10am to 7pm on Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday. Individual venues finish at different times. This is Saijo in Hiroshima Prefecture, not the Saijo autumn float festival in Ehime.

A short booking deadline matters now: the organizer has released limited Sunday hotpot seats through October 4, subject to selling out. Check the official booking notice before changing travel plans for a meal reservation.

Is Saijo Sake Festival free, or do you need a ticket?

The tourism festival listing describes general admission as free, with some paid venues. Food, games and individual brewery tastings can cost extra. A Sake Hiroba ticket does not turn the whole town into an included tasting route.

Use the 2026 venue map, released September 29, rather than an old festival screenshot. Choose one paid activity as your main commitment, then fit street stalls or a brewery visit around it.

Sake Hiroba prices and session times

The official ticket instructions list advance admission at JPY4,200 including tax, with ticket-service fees potentially extra. Same-day admission costs JPY5,000 if your chosen session has space. Do not travel assuming the gate will sell you a ticket for a full session.

DaySession choices, Japan local time
Saturday, October 1010am to 12:15pm; 1pm to 3:15pm; 4pm to 6:15pm
Sunday, October 1110am to 12:15pm; 1pm to 3:15pm

Your ticket is for one session, not an all-day pass. Once you leave, you cannot re-enter, even within that session. Eat beforehand or check what is sold inside before entering.

The organizer lists QUICK Pia in English and Japanese, without account registration, using Apple Pay or Google Pay to receive a phone-wallet ticket. Its separate Pia web route requires registration and paper-ticket collection. Follow the route on the official page that matches how you want to receive the ticket; do not assume every purchase produces a QR code in email.

How many sake tastings are included?

The festival FAQ confirms eight tasting tickets with admission. This is not an unlimited-drinking ticket. Additional pours use points: three points per pour, with ten points costing JPY1,000. Tasting tickets and spending points are different things, so check which one a stall needs before ordering.

Space your tastings out rather than treating eight as a target. The rules limit repeat sampling of the same brand, and a producer's allocation can run out. A reserved session guarantees neither every label nor a seat.

The Sake Hiroba venue page advertises additional paid-seat tickets for selected rounds. Its older body text also contains full-seat notices. Treat the live sales screen as the availability check. The JPY1,500 seat ticket is separate from admission; buying a seat alone is not entry.

Can non-drinkers and children come?

Non-drinkers can enjoy the town festival without buying a tasting session. Inside Sake Hiroba, the FAQ says they still need admission. That makes a paid session a poor default for someone who only wants to accompany friends briefly.

Sake Hiroba's entry policy excludes under-20s except guardian-accompanied children of junior-high-school age or younger. Do not assume every older teenager can enter as a non-drinker. Outside food and drinks, picnic mats and brought-in chairs are prohibited there. Check these venue rules before planning a family base inside the enclosure.

For children, the Wakuwaku Kids venue at the city hall car park lists games including go-karts, ball scooping and an inflatable dome. Hours are 10am to 6pm Saturday and 10am to 5pm Sunday. A JPY1,000 book contains five JPY200 tickets; it is not unlimited access to every activity. Check individual game conditions on arrival.

For the wider holiday, our Japan with kids guide helps you plan a route beyond the festival.

Brewery visits and the Sunday hotpot deadline

The brewery programme runs from 10am to 5pm both days, with last entry at 4:30pm. That is earlier than the town festival's Saturday finish.

Choose a brewery for what interests you. Kamoizumi lists bamboo-served sake, soba and grilled oysters. Kamotsuru lists paid tastings, reserved brewery tours and charity music. These are individual activities with their own terms, not extra stops included in a Sake Hiroba ticket. Do not assume a tour is in English unless the booking confirms it.

Bishunabe is a separate group meal. The hotpot ticket page lists a four-seat package at JPY17,600 and selected two-seat packages at JPY9,900, including the specified servings and sake. These prices are for the seating package, not per-person festival entry.

The September 30 release notice gives October 4 as the end of the limited Sunday-ticket window, unless the remaining allocation sells out first. Check the exact session before paying. The FAQ lists meat ingredients and says ingredient-removal requests cannot be accommodated; do not assume this meal meets vegetarian or allergy requirements.

Which station should you use from Hiroshima?

Take the JR Sanyo Main Line to Saijo station, then use its south exit. The official access guide puts Hiroshima to Saijo at roughly 40 minutes by local train, with the festival about a minute from the station.

Higashi-Hiroshima Shinkansen station is a different station. The organizer describes an onward bus or taxi journey of about 20 minutes from there. Choosing the Shinkansen station because its name matches the city can add a transfer you did not intend.

For a Hiroshima day trip, allow time beyond the train ride for finding your venue, entering a session and eating. Check the return timetable before you start tasting, not when you are already leaving.

If someone in your group will drive, they should not drink. The organizer's temporary Hiroshima University parking costs JPY1,000 a day, with a free shuttle taking about 15 minutes. The final festival-side shuttle departs at 7:30pm Saturday and 5:30pm Sunday. Follow the current access map to the parking area and shuttle stop; street parking is not a fallback plan.

A manageable festival day, with rain and luggage in mind

For a tasting-focused visit, arrive in time to find the enclosure before your reserved session. Eat outside first, attend the session, then take a break before choosing another activity. If you book the final Saturday session, you will miss the breweries' 4:30pm last-entry cutoff afterward.

For a visit without the enclosed tasting, choose a brewery event, lunch and a street walk. Families can build the day around the kids' venue instead of asking children to wait through an adult tasting session.

Bring rainwear: the organizer says Sake Hiroba proceeds in rain. Check the forecast and any new cancellation notice before departure. The FAQ had not confirmed baggage-storage details when checked, so leave large luggage at your accommodation where possible. It also limits wheelchair loans to first aid. Bring the mobility equipment you rely on and ask the organizer about your specific route rather than assuming the festival supplies it.

Useful phone tools and data for the trip

Use JR West's English route and timetable tools to check the rail journey and current service information. Keep the official venue map handy and confirm your phone-wallet ticket works before leaving Wi-Fi. Save addresses and a map area offline; a translation app can help you ask about ingredients or a tasting, but does not turn a Japanese-language tour into a guided English visit.

For visitors whose home plan does not include Japan, OpenSim Japan plans provide a prepaid data allowance for train updates, ticket pages and messaging without having to find Wi-Fi for each check. The public catalog checked October 3 listed 1GB for seven days at USD1.40 and 10GB for 30 days at USD9.40, both with top-up eligibility. Check the current plan, final currency and fees before purchase. If your home plan already includes sufficient Japan data, keeping it may be simpler. Extra data cannot guarantee a fast connection in a crowd.

Use the travel data calculator, phone compatibility guide and installation timing guide before departure. For broader plan choice, see the Japan eSIM comparison guide.

Saijo festival sources and updates

Event details come from the linked 2026 organizer pages; rail tools come from JR West. Dates, ticket rules, venue hours and public OpenSim prices were checked October 3, 2026. Recheck hotpot availability before the October 4 deadline, then the session rules, map and train service before traveling. This guide will be updated for material ticket, access or schedule changes rather than creating separate ticket and transport pages.
