Seoul Fireworks Festival 2026 guide: tickets, transport and exits

The Seoul International Fireworks Festival takes place at Yeouido Hangang Park on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The public program starts at 1 p.m., the fireworks run from 8 p.m. to 9:10 p.m., and an after-show DJ set continues while the first wave of spectators leaves. General viewing at Yeouido is free. Nodeul Island is different this year: the whole island is a paid Orange Play Zone and only advance ticket holders can enter.

The short answer: choose the river bank before you travel, arrive with food and water rather than depending on delivery, and decide on a station other than Yeouinaru for the return. Line 5 Yeouinaru Station is scheduled for temporary control from 8:40 p.m. to 9:40 p.m., which covers the end of the show. Drivers should rule out the riverside parking lot and the roads beside the 63 Building.

What changed for the 2026 festival

The date has moved to early September. More importantly for anyone using an old guide, Nodeul Island is no longer a free place to wander into. Hanwha says every part of the island will operate as the Orange Play Zone and admission is limited to people who bought tickets in advance.

That change matters even if you never intended to buy a seat. A 2025 recommendation to "try Nodeul" does not work in 2026. Free viewers need to use the public festival area or another place they have independently verified as open and legally accessible on the day.

The event also has a published 70-minute program rather than an unspecified evening window. Visit Seoul lists the United Kingdom from 8 p.m., the United States from 8:20 p.m. and South Korea from 8:40 p.m., with the show ending at 9:10 p.m. The organizer has built in a DJ set and a cleanup period after the fireworks. Staying for part of that program can be more useful than joining the first crush toward the subway.

Free Yeouido viewing or paid Nodeul Island?

These are two different experiences. Do not buy a Nodeul ticket simply because it sounds closer or quieter.

Officially listed Nodeul prices range from KRW 110,000 to KRW 220,000 by zone. Seats within a purchased zone are first come, first served. Hanwha also states that the island is some distance from the front of the main fireworks presentation and that trees or buildings can limit some sightlines. A higher ticket price should not be read as a guarantee of a perfectly centered view.

Sales are through the Orange Play app and are limited to five tickets per buyer. Check the live app rather than assuming tickets remain because a guide still shows the launch date.

Nodeul tickets need the buyer, the app and physical ID

The paid-zone ticket is a mobile ticket inside the Orange Play account. A screenshot is not accepted. The named buyer must collect the entry wristbands at the ticket booth with physical identification; the buyer can collect the accompanying group's wristbands after that identity check. Names cannot simply be transferred to another person.

The official ticket booth is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on September 5. Same-day sales may not happen, depending on remaining inventory. Anyone with a paid ticket should plan around the wristband deadline rather than arriving just before the fireworks.

Children aged 36 months or older need a ticket for the paid zone. A younger child can enter with a ticketed adult but does not receive a separate seat, and staff may request proof of age.

Choose the viewing area by its exit, not its photograph

The best-looking river view can become the worst choice if thousands of people share one stairway, tunnel or station. Public discussions from first-time visitors repeatedly ask for a quiet alternative. The honest answer is that a clearly visible, easy-access, low-crowd position is unlikely beside a major free city event.

Use three filters instead:

1. Confirm that the area is officially open on September 5.
2. Trace the walking route from the viewing point to a station that is not Yeouinaru.
3. Check whether that route crosses a closed bridge, controlled road or narrow park exit.

The official event map is the right source for toilets, medical points, lost-child support and information booths. Save it before leaving accommodation. Do not depend on an old map that still treats Nodeul as an ordinary public viewing area.

For the closest official free experience, Yeouido gives direct access to the public program. Its disadvantage is the return. If your group includes a young child, an older adult, a wheelchair user or someone uncomfortable in compression, decide in advance whether a distant view or the official online broadcast is the better experience. There is no useful prize for enduring a crowd your group cannot safely manage.

Arrive with a complete day plan

The public program begins at 1 p.m., but the official schedule does not assign a guaranteed patch of grass to free viewers. People arriving later should expect the clearest river-edge spaces to be occupied.

A practical free-viewing plan looks like this:

• Eat a proper meal before entering the densest part of the park.
• Bring sealed water, simple food, sun protection, a compact sitting mat and a warm layer for the river after dark.
• Use the toilet before settling, then note the closest official facility on the map.
• Keep the walking route clear and follow staff instructions about mats and restricted areas.
• Set a fixed meeting point outside the thickest crowd.
• Decide whether to leave before the finale or wait at least 30 minutes after the show.

Hanwha advises bringing personal food because delivery is difficult during the event. That is different from ordering a meal to a pin in a packed park. A courier may be unable to reach the customer, and the customer may lose the viewing place while searching for the rider.

The rules are tighter inside the paid Nodeul zone. The Seoul listing says strollers, suitcases, bicycles and carts are not allowed there. Wheelchairs are permitted, although some areas can have access limits. Food must be in a reusable or sealed container. Water containers can be no larger than 500 ml, and bottles, cans, hard liquor, takeaway meals and delivery food are prohibited in the paid area. Do not drive toward Yeouido Hangang Park

The official transport notice removes the main reasons to attempt a car journey:

• Yeouidong-ro, between the south end of Mapo Bridge and the 63 Building, closes from 3 p.m. to midnight.
• Access from Park One Tower toward the Yeoui-dong Community Center is selectively controlled during the same period.
• Police can apply flexible controls at the 63 Building approaches from Olympic-daero and Nodeul-gil.
• The Yeouido Hangang Park parking lot in front of the 63 Building is closed from 6 p.m. on September 4 until midnight on September 5.
• Wonhyo Bridge is fully closed from 9 a.m. September 5 until 3 a.m. September 6. Separate setup and removal closures also affect the bridge on September 4 and 6.

A taxi or ride-hailing car is still a car. It cannot bypass a police closure or guarantee a legal pickup beside the venue. If you use one for the wider journey, set a pickup point well outside the controlled area and expect the driver to follow a detour.

Build the subway return before the show starts

Yeouinaru Station is only a short walk from the public venue, which makes it an obvious arrival choice and a poor single-point return plan. Seoul Metro is scheduled to control the station from 8:40 p.m. to 9:40 p.m. The Hanwha notice says this may be announced only at the site, without a separate advance announcement.

Do not interpret that as a promise that normal access resumes at exactly 9:40 p.m. Crowd management can depend on conditions. Save routes from more than one station and follow police and station staff on the night.

Possible alternatives depend on which side of the park you occupy and where you are going. Yeouido Station connects Lines 5 and 9. Saetgang connects Line 9 and the Sillim Line. Mapo is on Line 5 on the other side of Mapo Bridge, but the bridge and walking conditions must be checked before treating it as a fallback. The correct station is the one your actual exit route can reach without crossing a closed or unsafe section.

For Nodeul ticket holders, the official Seoul listing says buses will not stop at the Nodeulseom stop on event day. Nodeul Station Exit 2 is about 600 meters away. Nodeul parking is unavailable from September 3 through 5, and guests approach on foot from the bridge ends. Follow the paid-zone instructions rather than copying a Yeouido route.

Two exit strategies work better than one optimistic plan

Leave early: move before the South Korea finale and accept missing part of the display. This can reduce the first post-show pressure, but only if staff routes and transport access permit movement.

Wait deliberately: remain at the approved viewing area for at least 30 minutes, take part in the cleanup period or watch the DJ set, then move after the first wave. The organizer recommends a delayed departure. Waiting does not guarantee an empty train, but it is more realistic than assuming the nearest station will absorb everyone at 9:11 p.m.

Whichever approach you choose, agree on a fallback meeting place and time. Live location sharing often becomes least reliable when the group needs it most.

Useful apps and files for the day

Install and open the required apps before joining the crowd:

• Orange Play: paid Nodeul tickets, event notices and the organizer's emergency-report function. Ticket screenshots do not replace the logged-in mobile ticket.
• NAVER Map or KakaoMap: pedestrian and public transport routing in Seoul. Save the venue, fallback station and accommodation in Korean and English.
• Seoul Subway: useful for a network overview, but obey live station controls rather than a static route suggestion.
• Korea Meteorological Administration: check the short-range Seoul forecast and alerts on the morning of September 5.
• Papago: useful for translating temporary notices or asking staff a short question.

Also save the official event map, ticket confirmation, group meeting point, accommodation address and two subway routes as screenshots or offline notes. Keep one phone on a battery-saving setting before the fireworks begin.

Mobile data without pretending it solves the crowd

Mobile data helps with current station notices, route changes, Orange Play access, weather, translation and group messages. It does not reopen Yeouinaru Station, create a clear signal path through a dense crowd or make a closed bridge walkable.
