World Nomad Games 2026 guide: tickets, venues and transport

The VI World Nomad Games open in Bishkek on Monday, August 31, then continue around Cholpon-Ata and northern Issyk-Kul from September 1 to 6. The opening ceremony uses a personal ticket, Face ID and organized shuttle buses. Most sports and cultural events at Issyk-Kul are free, but the kok-boru and kokpar finals, selected shows and the closing ceremony need separate tickets.

This is not one festival ground. A visitor who books every night in Bishkek will face a long road transfer to the main venues. A visitor who goes straight to Issyk-Kul will miss the opening. The practical route is one or two nights in Bishkek, followed by a north-shore base around Cholpon-Ata for the rest of the Games.

The short answer: stay in Bishkek for the August 31 opening, use the shuttle point linked from your personal ticket, and do not plan a tight same-evening flight. Move to Cholpon-Ata on September 1 and allow several hours for the road journey. Download the official English program because free and ticketed sessions use different venues and ticket systems. For Kyrchyn, confirm the free event minibus route on the morning you travel.

This guide was checked on August 29, less than 48 hours before the opening. The organizing committee released important ticket and transport details late, and some older search results still say tickets are unavailable. Use the live official ticket pages as the final source on the day.

What changed just before the Games

Ticket sales and transport details appeared close to the event. That matters because several otherwise useful planning pages were published before the final release and still tell readers that tickets are not on sale.

The current setup has two separate purchase paths:

1. Buy the Bishkek opening ceremony through the official ticket.gov.kg event page.
2. Use nebs.gov.kg for ticketed events at Issyk-Kul.
3. Use the organizer's English program PDF to identify which sessions are free before buying anything.

Do not buy a second ticket merely because two venues appear on the same day. Some sporting sessions are free, and the program labels admission by session. Screenshots of an old schedule are less reliable than the current PDF.

Opening ceremony tickets have strict identity rules

The opening starts at 5 p.m. on August 31 at Bishkek Arena. The official ticket page listed seats from KGS 5,000 when checked, while current government reporting gave a KGS 5,000 to 9,000 range by seat.

The ticket is personal. The official page says each attendee aged 7 or older needs an electronic ticket linked to identity verification. Entry uses both Face ID and the QR code. Tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable, so do not buy for an undecided traveler or forward the QR to somebody else.

Children under 7 are not admitted to the opening ceremony. That rule is specific and stricter than a normal family-event assumption. Families with a younger child should skip the opening rather than arrive expecting an exception at security.

Save the QR code offline, but keep the original ticket account accessible. Bring the same identity document used for the booking. A screenshot helps when the connection is weak; it does not replace an identity mismatch or make a ticket transferable.

The opening is shuttle-only for spectators

Private cars and taxis cannot drive directly to Bishkek Arena on opening day. The official ticket page says spectators must use organized buses from designated hubs and that the return bus goes back to the original point.

There is a late discrepancy in the published information. The ticket page refers to 22 hubs. A Bishkek City Hall report published by 24.kg on August 27 lists 21 departure locations, with free buses leaving between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and the last departure at 4 p.m.

Do not choose a hub from a copied list several days in advance. Open the My City link supplied with the personal ticket, check the recommended boarding point and current departure window, then use 2GIS for the route to that hub. The personalized event information is the better event-day source when counts differ.

Reach the hub early. The opening has enhanced security because heads of state are expected. A 5 p.m. start does not mean a 4:45 p.m. arrival at the arena is workable.

Can you catch a late flight after the opening?

Do not build a fixed same-evening flight around the opening ceremony. A traveler recently asked whether a 10:15 p.m. departure from Manas Airport was realistic. The ceremony duration, security release, queue for the return shuttle, journey back to the original hub and onward airport transfer create too many unknowns.

The ticket page does not promise an airport shuttle or a specific return time. Stay in Bishkek that night or choose a flight the next day. Missing the end of the ceremony still would not guarantee a fast exit from the controlled transport system.

Move to Issyk-Kul instead of commuting from Bishkek

The main program shifts to the north shore of Issyk-Kul from September 1. The road from Bishkek to Cholpon-Ata is roughly 250 kilometres and usually takes several hours before event traffic, stops or road controls. It is not a sensible daily commute.

A workable sequence is:

1. Arrive in Bishkek by August 30 if possible.
2. Attend the opening on August 31 and return to the same shuttle hub.
3. Sleep in Bishkek.
4. Leave for Cholpon-Ata on September 1 with a generous margin.
5. Stay near the north-shore venues through the last event you want to attend.

If the opening does not matter to you, skip Bishkek as an event base and travel directly toward Issyk-Kul. Do not add a capital-city night solely because an older guide treats the Games as one Bishkek event.

Private transfer, shared taxi and bus availability can change during a major event. Confirm the vehicle, luggage space, pickup point and total price before leaving. Keep the accommodation address in Cyrillic and offline because a driver may recognize the local name more readily than an English map label.

Choose venues by what you want to see

The official program spreads ethnosport, cultural events and traditional-knowledge sessions across several sites. Use this table to make choices, then confirm the time in the PDF.

Kok-boru is a fast horseback team sport in which riders contest possession of a goat carcass and score in the opposing goal. It can be physically intense for horses and riders, and the traditional equipment may be difficult for some spectators. Read about the sport before taking children and choose a different program if the format is not right for your group.

Which tickets cost money at Issyk-Kul?

The official program is the controlling admission guide. Current local reporting listed selected cultural programs at KGS 500, the kok-boru and kokpar finals at KGS 1,000, and closing-ceremony seats from KGS 500 to 4,000 by sector when checked on August 29.

Those are dated observations, not a promise of remaining seats. Buy through nebs.gov.kg and check the event name, venue, date and sector before paying. Local reports also listed offline sales from August 27 at Rukh Ordo, two points around the hippodrome and Dordoi Nomad in Bosteri. Online inventory is easier to verify before making a special trip to a sales point.

Do not share a ticket QR in a public group while asking for help. Keep a screenshot for offline access, but redact the code from social posts and accommodation messages.

Getting to Kyrchyn gorge

Kyrchyn is the cultural day many visitors picture when they think of the Games. It is outside Cholpon-Ata, so treat it as a separate transport plan rather than an extra stop after the hippodrome.

A current city-administration plan reported by Open.kg assigns 300 minibuses and 15 reserve vehicles to free Kyrchyn transport. The three planned routes start from:

• Bait village;
• Cholpon-Ata Hippodrome;
• Zharkynbaev village.

This is a reported operating plan, not a guaranteed personal timetable. Confirm the boarding point and last return on the morning of the visit. Photograph the stop, ask where the return queue forms and leave enough daylight for delays. A free bus can still fill or depart in batches.

Wear shoes for uneven, dusty or muddy ground. Bring sun protection, water, a warm layer and rain protection. Issyk-Kul weather can change faster than conditions in Bishkek, and the gorge offers less predictable shelter than an indoor sports complex.

What to carry and what remains unconfirmed

Bring the items that protect the trip from the most likely failures:

• passport or identity document matching any personal ticket;
• opening and Issyk-Kul ticket QR codes saved offline;
• the current English program PDF;
• an offline map of Bishkek, Cholpon-Ata and the north shore;
• a written accommodation address and a fixed group meeting point;
• cash in small denominations as a backup;
• a power bank and the correct cable;
• water, sun protection, rain protection and a warm layer;
• practical shoes for Kyrchyn and unpaved approaches.

We did not find a complete, current official spectator bag policy for every 2026 venue. Do not infer that an item accepted at Kyrchyn will be accepted at a high-security opening ceremony. Take a small bag, avoid knives, glass, drones and bulky equipment, and follow the instructions on the specific ticket and security line.

Ask before taking close photographs of participants, children or the inside of a family yurt. Keep out of athlete, horse and official transport routes. The best view is not worth blocking a working entrance or stepping into a competition area.

Apps and files to set up before leaving WiFi

The opening ticket page directs visitors to two practical tools:

1. My City for the official shuttle-hub map, route and event departure information linked to the ticket.
2. 2GIS for walking and public transport directions to the selected hub.

Also download the official English program and the relevant ticket QR codes. Save one screenshot that shows the accommodation address, one that shows the shuttle hub, and one that shows the chosen meeting point. A messaging app is useful only while everybody has a working signal, so agree on a clock time to reunite if messages stop.

Maps can be downloaded before the trip. Keep Bishkek and Issyk-Kul as separate offline areas if the app permits it. Open each saved region once in airplane mode so you know it is actually available.

Mobile data for the Bishkek and Issyk-Kul route

Mobile data helps with the route between venues, ticket-account access, changes to shuttle instructions and regrouping. It should not hold the only copy of a ticket or program. Crowds can slow any network, and the article cannot guarantee capacity inside Bishkek Arena or at Kyrchyn.
