Book stalls and visitors inside the Sharjah International Book Fair in November 2014

Sharjah International Book Fair runs from November 4-15, 2026, at Expo Centre Sharjah. General admission is free and does not require advance registration, but some workshops and performances need separate bookings. Pick the activity that matters to you before choosing a day, then confirm its time and your journey home.

The fair suits more than a quick book-shopping stop. You can spend a visit browsing publishers, listening to an author or taking children to a workshop. Trying to fit all three into an unplanned evening makes the journey harder, especially if you are coming from Dubai.

Entry, dates and opening hours

The organizer's visitor information and visitor FAQ distinguish general access from individual activities.

Planning questionWhat to use for your visit
DatesWednesday, November 4 to Sunday, November 15
VenueExpo Centre Sharjah, Al Khan, on Al Taawun Street near Arab Mall
General admissionFree; no advance registration needed
Workshops and special sessionsCheck the individual booking requirement
Daily opening hoursConfirm your chosen day with SIBF before leaving

Do not use Expo Centre's office hours as the fair's opening hours. The venue's event listing spans November 4 at 10:00 to November 15 at 22:00. That is not a complete day-by-day timetable. SIBF says hours vary by day; a Friday visit needs its own check.

For a time-sensitive question, use the organizer's published contact, 800 BOOKS (26657) or [email protected]. Ask about the date and activity, rather than only whether the building is open.

Choose one main reason to visit

The 45th edition has Oman as Guest of Honour. The official programme announcement includes these choices:

  • Omani literature and culture: start with the Guest of Honour pavilion if you want a focused introduction rather than a tour of every hall.
  • Crime and mystery writing: the Thriller Festival runs November 7-10. Choose an individual discussion from the current programme; a named guest is not a promise that they appear every day.
  • Poets' Corner: visitors' stories become poems in Arabic or English. Keep a short memory in mind if that is the experience you want.
  • Future Hands District: an interactive learning area introduces children to different professions. Check its specific participation conditions before promising a child a place.
  • Book shopping: bring a short title list, including author, language and edition. Compare the actual copy and price, not just the size of a discount sign.

For books you intend to take home by air, leave room in your baggage allowance. Buy the harder-to-find titles first; a heavy stack of unplanned purchases becomes part of the return journey.

Books are available in Arabic, English and other languages. That does not mean every talk has English interpretation or every publisher carries the edition you need. Check session language and stock directly.

Children's workshops have age limits

The SIBF activities page gives dates and ages for individual workshops. Examples include:

WorkshopDatePublished age guidance
The Beautiful Mandoos, assembling a model heritage chestNovember 615 and above
Ube DrinkNovember 711-17
Transparent CakeNovember 811-17
Al Barjeel Model, building a wooden wind-tower houseNovember 1310 and above

A children's programme is not automatically a toddler programme. Use the age range, session time and registration conditions together. An activity marked open on a listing is not a reservation.

For younger children, keep the first visit shorter: browse a few relevant publishers, take a food break and leave space to stop early. For older children, let them choose one workshop and a book budget. Those are different visits, even within the same family.

Three shows need separate booking

Sharjah24's family-performance announcement lists the following local UAE times:

PerformanceDate and timeWhat to expect
When Memories SingNovember 7, 19:30-21:00Arabic-language musical theatre built around familiar childhood songs
Impossible or Science?!November 8, 18:00-19:30Interactive demonstrations and optical illusions with Abdullah Annan
WaterlandNovember 14, 19:30-21:00; November 15, 18:00-19:30Theatre at the outdoor stage near the Al Taawun entrance

The announcement directs bookings through Platinumlist. Free admission to the book halls is not a booking for these shows. Check the current performance listing for seats, price, age rules and any accessibility arrangements before making a special trip. Do not assume a ticket remains available because an announcement links to it.

Plan dinner and the return journey around the performance's finish, not the end of your book shopping. Waterland's outdoor setting also matters when choosing clothing and arranging assistance.

Getting to Expo Centre Sharjah from Dubai

The venue's transport guide lists the E301 bus between Stadium Metro Station in Dubai and Al Taawun Bus Stop in Sharjah. Confirm the current operator timetable, final approach and last return before relying on it. A metro connection to the bus is not a metro ride all the way to the exhibition entrance.

A taxi can reduce changes when carrying books or travelling with children, but it still shares the roads. Do not treat the venue's approximate airport or Dubai driving times as a race against a fixed workshop start. Leave a margin for traffic, parking and finding the correct entrance.

On November 2, Mubadara and SRTA announced that several routes leading to Expo Centre were ready. This is an access improvement, not confirmation that the entire Al Taawun tunnel project is finished or that there will be no queues. Follow current signs and official directions rather than an old saved turning instruction.

The October programme announcement also describes work on additional parking and transport arrangements. Use a confirmed 2026 pickup point and return timetable if taking a fair shuttle. Do not build a late-night return around a 2025 timetable or assume every announced parking area is operating.

A manageable half-day plan

For readers: choose one author session, allow browsing time on either side and keep a meal break. If the session is the reason for travelling, confirm its language, location and booking first.

For families: pair one age-appropriate activity with a short book-shopping list. Avoid booking back-to-back sessions in different areas without time for toilets, food and walking.

For a show visit: secure the performance booking, then add browsing before it. Arrange a meeting point outside the busy entrance and decide how long you are willing to wait for transport afterward.

The organizer lists food and refreshments and says the venue has accessibility facilities. If you need a step-free route, accessible toilet, seating or assistance at a particular performance, confirm those details directly. A general accessibility statement does not establish the route from your bus stop to your seat.

Keep the programme and return route on your phone

Bookmark the SIBF activities page and your individual booking, save the venue map pin in your navigation app, and keep tickets and confirmations available locally. For a taxi pickup, agree on a precise point that is actually reachable under the day's traffic arrangements.

Mobile data is useful for checking changes, comparing a book edition and coordinating a pickup without returning to a Wi-Fi hotspot. OpenSim's United Arab Emirates plans listed 1GB for 7 days at USD3.50 and 3GB for 15 days at USD9.58 on November 3, both with top-up available. The smaller allowance is an option for a short UAE visit focused on maps and messages; the longer plan better matches more days of travel without buying the largest allowance.

If your usual plan already includes adequate UAE roaming, another purchase may not be useful. Data does not reserve a workshop place, remove local app restrictions or guarantee service in a crowded hall.

Check phone compatibility, read the installation-timing guide and use the travel data calculator. For a wider family trip, the UAE with kids guide covers other destinations separately.

Sources and updates

SIBF provides admission, activity and visitor guidance; Expo Centre provides venue and transport information. WAM carries the programme announcement, and Sharjah24 provides the performance schedule and November 2 road-readiness update. This guide will be updated for confirmed daily hours, shuttle and parking arrangements, booking changes or revised access before the fair ends on November 15.
