Sitges Film Festival 2026: tickets, cinemas and late trains
Sitges Film Festival runs from October 8 to 18, 2026. For a first visit, book one or two screenings, check their languages and cinema locations, then work out how you will get back to Barcelona. A sold-out festival pack does not mean every individual screening is unavailable.
This year's fantasy and horror festival includes cinema, filmmaker encounters, animation and activities outside the screening rooms. The organizer's October 2 update reports a 19% increase in early ticket sales compared with the previous year. That is an organizer-reported figure, not a forecast that every showing will fill.
The useful decision is which sessions fit your visit, rather than how much of the programme you can squeeze into a day.

Which Sitges screening ticket should you book?
The 2026 ticket page lists these prices, checked October 4. Confirm the selected screening and final checkout total before paying.
| Session type | Listed price |
|---|---|
| General admission | EUR11.50 |
| General admission at the Auditori | EUR12.50 |
| Sitges Classics | EUR10 |
| Premium session | EUR20 |
| Sitges Family | EUR4 |
Passes and packs were marked sold out when checked. A pack is a ticket allowance, not unlimited entry: its code must be redeemed for eligible screenings with available seats. Check the pack type, exclusions and remaining allowance if redemption fails; then contact the festival through its ticket page.
The organizer does not reserve a separate same-day box-office allocation. It may release organizational holds, announced through the festival app. Tickets generally cannot be exchanged or returned unless the organizer cancels the screening or event.
For a short visit, choose individual sessions you can attend. Do not pay a stranger for a pack code without getting the organizer's confirmation that the transaction and code are valid.
Check subtitles before choosing the film
Use the official 2026 programme, then open the film's own page. Read the original language, subtitle languages and the details of the specific showing. An English website description is not evidence of English subtitles.
For example, the official Buddy listing gives English as the film language, Catalan and Spanish subtitles, and a limited English-subtitle note. That is a reason to read the details rather than apply one rule to the entire festival. Submission rules for filmmakers are not a substitute for the public screening information.
If captions or a particular subtitle language are essential, ask the festival to confirm your exact session before buying. Distinguish translated dialogue from captions for deaf or hard-of-hearing viewers. A discussion of last year's arrangements cannot confirm either for 2026.
Plan cinema locations before booking consecutive sessions
The official venue list separates the Meliá complex from central-town locations:
| Location | What to use it for when planning |
|---|---|
| Meliá Sitges | Auditori, Tramuntana and the Llevant room used by Brigadoon |
| Cinema Prado | Central-town screenings; check the exact entrance on your ticket |
| Escorxador cultural centre | Another cinema location, not a room inside Meliá |
| Mercat Vell | Sitges Family programme in Town Hall Square |
| Meeting and Foodtastic | Outdoor activities and food stops around the Balmins area |
Brigadoon is listed as free access at Meliá's Sala Llevant. Free access does not guarantee a seat. Check the session and leave room to queue.
Treat two showings in different cinemas as separate appointments. Allow time for the credits, any discussion, walking, entry queues and a toilet stop. A film's running time is only part of the gap you need. A short turnaround can fail even when the map makes the distance look manageable.
For access needs, use the festival's accessibility information point and confirm the relevant room, seating and entrance. The hotel address alone does not establish step-free access to every festival space.
Can you return to Barcelona after a late screening?
The festival's current transport page says a special train leaves Sitges at 01:30 for Barcelona Sants, with service described across the early-morning dates October 8 to 18. Confirm the departure calendar for your particular night: a showing on October 18 that ends after midnight is already October 19.
Do not assume the special train serves your final accommodation stop or waits for an overrunning screening. Plan the onward journey from Sants too. Use Rodalies timetables and service notices for the selected date, not an old festival timetable.
For the outbound journey, compare the train with BusGarraf's current festival travel guidance. The operator lists Barcelona-Sitges and an airport-linked route via the Garraf towns. Check the stop, direction and departure you need; a route serving the airport does not mean every service serves both terminals.
If you need an accessible bus, the festival transport page says to request it at least four hours ahead and recommends 24 hours. Verify the booking with the operator. Mou-te can help compare public-transport connections.
For a midnight film or a long marathon, accommodation in Sitges may fit better than a return trip dependent on one train. Compare the whole evening's cost before choosing a room, including transport and any late arrival arrangement. This is a planning choice, not a claim that one base is always cheaper.
Zombie Walk is on October 10
The organizer confirms the Saturday, October 10 Zombie Walk, starting at 19:30 at Miramar cultural centre. Its official makeup station at Sant Sebastià beach is scheduled for 11:00 to 19:00, with 400 wristbands distributed to people in the queue. The October 2 announcement has the details.
Makeup availability is limited. Have a plan that works without a wristband, and do not book a screening that requires you to be in a different place at the same time. Leave costumes and props compatible with whatever entry rules apply to your chosen cinema.
If traveling with children, consider whether elaborate horror makeup and crowds suit them. Watching from a comfortable location and leaving early can be a better choice than joining the entire procession. Pick a meeting point by name before your group separates.
What works for families or a visit without a cinema ticket?
The September 18 family announcement describes Kids, Kids in Action, Teens and Popcorn strands at Mercat Vell. It includes ROBOTIA, The Movie and Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake, among other titles. These strands serve different audiences; neither animation nor a family-programme label guarantees that every film suits a young child.
Check the film's age guidance, subject matter, language and duration. Start with one appropriate screening, then leave time for food and a break outside. Keep broader itinerary planning with our Spain with kids guide.
Without a paid screening, use the parallel programme and venue information to choose a specific activity, exhibition or free Brigadoon session. Do not assume every workshop, encounter or outdoor event is unreserved simply because it is outside the main cinema. A visit can still be worthwhile without the most prominent premiere.
A realistic first day at the festival
- Before leaving, save the tickets, venue addresses and return options. Confirm your booked sessions are on the date you intended.
- Arrive with enough time for the first cinema rather than beginning with a cross-town detour.
- After the film, allow a proper meal break. Keep the next session nearby where possible.
- Spend the gap at a chosen parallel activity or on the seafront instead of adding another booking by default.
- Check transport updates before the final screening. If it cannot fit the return journey, use an earlier film or arrange an overnight stay.
The festival app is useful for release alerts. Rodalies is useful for train information, while Mou-te helps with connections. Download an offline map and save your accommodation address separately. Charge your phone before an evening visit and bring a power bank if it will hold everyone's tickets.
Mobile data for tickets and the return journey
An offline ticket and map handle much of the day. Mobile data helps with a changed session, a ticket-release alert, transport updates or messaging the rest of your group. It cannot reserve a cinema seat or make a late train run.
For visitors whose home plan charges extra for Spain, OpenSim's Spain plans provide a separate, stated data allowance. On October 4, the public catalog listed 1GB for seven days at USD1.14 and 10GB for 30 days at USD8.56; both were top-up eligible. Prices can change and checkout may add fees or currency conversion. The smaller allowance can suit occasional trip tasks, while uploading video needs a different budget.
That makes OpenSim a practical alternative to relying on extra roaming charges for festival updates. If Spain data is already included in your home plan, using that allowance may be the simpler option. There is no verified basis here for claiming one service has better reception inside the cinemas.
Check phone compatibility, review when to install an eSIM before travel, and use the travel data calculator before choosing an allowance.
When to recheck the Sitges programme and transport
Ticket, programme, venue and transport information was checked against the linked organizer and operator pages on October 4, 2026. Listed prices are not a guarantee of remaining seats. Confirm your selected session at checkout and recheck the return journey on the day.
We will update this guide if the organizer changes the programme, entry arrangements or special-train notice. The 2026 dates and transport details should not be reused for a later edition without confirmation.
