Sun PhuQuoc Airways launched a daily nonstop flight between Ho Chi Minh City and Shanghai on October 15, 2026. Flight 9G634 leaves Tan Son Nhat late at night, while 9G635 returns from Shanghai Pudong early in the morning.

This is an operating route, not an announced service waiting to start. The inaugural outbound flight left Ho Chi Minh City on October 15 and arrived in Shanghai on October 16.

The practical answer: Sun PhuQuoc Airways flies Ho Chi Minh City-Shanghai once daily. The current schedule has 9G634 leaving Ho Chi Minh City at 23:40 and reaching Shanghai at 04:40 the next day. Flight 9G635 leaves Shanghai at 05:40 and lands in Ho Chi Minh City at 09:05. All times are local. Recheck the issued ticket because a launch schedule can change.

This guide was checked on October 16, 2026, after the first service operated.

The daily 9G634 and 9G635 schedule

The airline's Shanghai route offer confirms nonstop service between Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG). Vietnam News' launch report records the first flight and the daily timetable.

FlightRouteDepartureArrivalFrequency
9G634Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) to Shanghai Pudong (PVG)23:4004:40 next dayDaily
9G635Shanghai Pudong (PVG) to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN)05:4009:05Daily

Shanghai is one hour ahead of Ho Chi Minh City. The scheduled elapsed time is about four hours outbound and four hours 25 minutes on the return.

The outbound is an overnight flight and the return has a very early departure. Those timings affect hotel checkout, airport transport and connections more than the raw flight duration does. Check the actual date attached to each sector, especially when booking accommodation or a separate onward ticket.

What the first SGN-PVG flight confirms

The launch report says 9G634 carried passengers on October 15, so the route has moved beyond the sales stage. It also describes one daily round trip and names both flight numbers.

Sun PhuQuoc Airways advertised a 20 percent base-fare discount for eligible bookings made from September 26 through October 26, with travel from October 15, 2026 through April 15, 2027 and stated peak-date exclusions. A discount on the base fare does not mean taxes, fees, baggage additions or every date are reduced. Compare the final payable amount and fare rules before buying.

The airline's current Vietnam-China fare table applies to Chengdu and Shanghai. It lists different change and refund charges by economy fare family, so the fare name on the ticket matters. A traveler's report about another booking cannot override the conditions attached to the selected fare.

Baggage rules for the Shanghai route

Sun PhuQuoc Airways' Vietnam-China fare table lists one checked piece up to 23 kg for each economy fare family. The general checked-baggage page sets a 158 cm combined-dimension limit for a standard piece.

Economy passengers can take one cabin bag up to 7 kg and 56 x 36 x 23 cm. The airline permits one small personal item, but its weight counts within the same 7 kg limit. Business passengers can take two pieces with a combined maximum of 14 kg.

For China routes, a prepaid extra 23 kg piece currently costs USD 80 before tax and must be bought at least five hours before departure. Treat that as a current airline price, not a permanent promise. Read the live baggage page and booking total again before paying.

Check-in at SGN and PVG

For international flights to or from Vietnam, the airline's airport check-in rules say counters open three hours and close 50 minutes before departure. Passengers should be at the gate 30 to 40 minutes before departure, and the airline can start no-show procedures when someone is not there 15 minutes before departure.

Those are deadlines, not recommended arrival targets. The 23:40 departure from SGN still requires time for document checks, baggage, security and exit control. The 05:40 departure from PVG may also require an airport trip before normal daytime transport is running.

Online check-in opens 24 hours and closes one hour before departure. SGN appears on the airline's supported list, but only under domestic airports. PVG is not on the current international list. Unless the booking itself offers online check-in for this route, plan to use the airport counter in both directions.

Entry permission is passport specific

A ticket does not establish permission to enter China or Vietnam. Check the passport, residence status, purpose and length of stay through the National Immigration Administration of China, the relevant embassy or consulate, and Vietnam's official e-visa portal.

Do not copy another passenger's visa-free or transit rule without checking that the same passport and itinerary qualify. A connection, separate ticket or airport change can alter how a transit rule applies. Airlines can also require evidence that a traveler meets the destination's document rules before boarding.

Plan the early Shanghai arrival carefully

Flight 9G634 is scheduled to reach PVG at 04:40. Immigration, baggage delivery and customs will add time, but the arrival can still be earlier than some rail and hotel services.

Use Shanghai Airport's current transport information to check the first train, bus, taxi arrangement and terminal information for the date. If a hotel will not hold luggage before check-in, arrange storage or early access before departure rather than assuming a room will be ready at dawn.

The 05:40 flight back to Vietnam needs the reverse calculation. Work backward from the airline's check-in deadline, then confirm how you will reach Pudong at that hour. A cheap room far from the airport may not save money once an early taxi is added.

Separate tickets need room for delays

Sun PhuQuoc Airways sells its own network, but a separate onward ticket is still a self-transfer unless the carriers confirm otherwise. You may need to enter the country, collect bags, clear customs, move through the airport, check in again and pass security.

Do not assume a bag will be checked through merely because both flights appear in one search result. Ask the issuing airline what the ticket covers and read the operating carrier on every sector.

There is no universal safe connection time for an overnight international arrival. If missing the onward flight would be expensive, leave a large buffer or stay overnight. Keep medicine, documents and essential chargers in permitted cabin baggage.

Mobile data for Vietnam and China

An OpenSim Vietnam eSIM can provide ground data around Ho Chi Minh City. An OpenSim China eSIM can support maps, messages and transport checks after arrival in Shanghai. Travelers using both countries can compare the OpenSim Asia 12 areas eSIM, whose current public coverage includes Vietnam and mainland China.

Check the selected plan card for allowance, validity, network speed, hotspot terms, reduced-speed conditions and top-up eligibility. Not every plan can be topped up. Install on reliable Wi-Fi and follow that package's activation instructions.

Sun PhuQuoc Airways also advertises a complimentary 5GB profile for eligible international arrivals in Vietnam. That can be relevant to an eligible 9G635 passenger arriving at SGN, but it does not provide data for the outbound arrival in Shanghai. Our Sun PhuQuoc Airways free eSIM guide explains the separate campaign rules.

Ten questions about Sun PhuQuoc Airways Ho Chi Minh-Shanghai flights

Are the Ho Chi Minh City-Shanghai flights operating now?

Yes. The first outbound service left Ho Chi Minh City on October 15, 2026, and the route is scheduled daily. Check the airline's live status for the specific date because individual flights can still change.

What times do 9G634 and 9G635 fly?

9G634 is scheduled from SGN at 23:40 to PVG at 04:40 the next day. 9G635 leaves PVG at 05:40 and reaches SGN at 09:05. All times are local.

Does 9G634 fly nonstop from SGN to PVG?

Yes. The airline markets SGN-PVG as a direct nonstop route. Confirm that both airport codes appear on the final booking and that no separate domestic sector has been added.

Is checked baggage included in economy?

The current Vietnam-China fare table lists one checked piece up to 23 kg for every economy fare family. The ticket remains the controlling record, particularly when another airline or separate sector is involved.

What is the economy cabin-bag limit on the Shanghai flight?

One cabin piece up to 7 kg and 56 x 36 x 23 cm. The weight of the permitted small personal item counts inside the same 7 kg maximum.

Can I check in online at SGN or PVG?

Do not rely on it. SGN appears only in the airline's domestic online check-in list, while PVG is not listed. Use online check-in only if the specific booking offers it and allow time for the airport counter.

How early should I arrive for 9G635 at Shanghai Pudong?

The counter is scheduled to close 50 minutes before departure, but that is a final deadline. Plan transport and arrival much earlier so document checks, baggage, security and exit control are completed before the 05:40 departure.

Will public transport be running after the 04:40 arrival?

Do not assume it will. Immigration and baggage will move the clock forward, but first services vary. Check Shanghai Airport's current transport pages and keep a taxi or waiting plan if rail has not started.

Is a short separate-ticket connection safe at SGN or PVG?

There is no universal safe minimum. Immigration, bags, customs, another check-in and security may apply, while the onward airline may not protect a missed self-transfer. Leave a generous buffer.

Does the airline's free Vietnam eSIM work for both directions?

No. The separate offer is for eligible international passengers arriving in Vietnam. It may apply after an eligible 9G635 arrival at SGN, but it does not cover passengers landing in Shanghai on 9G634.

Before booking SGN-PVG

  • Confirm 9G634 or 9G635 and the correct calendar date.
  • Read the final fare, refund and change conditions.
  • Check the 23 kg checked bag and 7 kg cabin bag lines on the ticket.
  • Plan for airport counter check-in unless the booking offers another option.
  • Verify passport-specific entry or transit permission.
  • Arrange transport for the 04:40 arrival or 05:40 departure.
  • Leave a large margin for a separate-ticket connection.
  • Save the itinerary, hotel address and documents offline.
  • Install any travel eSIM on reliable Wi-Fi.
  • Recheck the flight and airport information before leaving.

Sources reviewed for the SGN-PVG guide

Sun PhuQuoc Airways' route and fare pages support the nonstop route, eligible travel period, fare-family conditions and baggage. Vietnam News' dated launch report supports the operating status, daily frequency and flight times. The airline's passenger pages support check-in and baggage rules. Government and airport pages are the controlling places for current entry and ground-transport checks.

Public traveler discussions were used to identify questions about a new airline, baggage, online check-in, name fields, refunds, schedule changes, missed connections and damaged-bag reporting. They were not used as evidence for the timetable, fare terms, entry rules or legal rights.

We will update this page after a material timetable, frequency, baggage, check-in, entry, airport or operating-status change.
