TAAG adds Kolet travel eSIM plans for international passengers
TAAG Angola Airlines has started promoting Kolet mobile-data plans to international passengers. The service has been available since July 3, 2026 and covers more than 190 destinations, according to reports based on the airline's announcement.
The first rollout is narrower than the headline suggests. TAAG is sending the offer through pre-departure email and SMS in its international markets except Angola. Online Check-in and Manage My Booking integration are planned, but the airline has not said those booking tools are live yet.
The traveler decision: a TAAG passenger who receives the official offer can compare the Kolet plan shown for the trip. Travelers who do not receive it, start in Angola, or want to compare operators, allowances and top-up eligibility can buy a Roaming eSIM directly without waiting for an airline message.
What the TAAG and Kolet partnership changes
TAAG has added a new passenger sales channel for international mobile data. TravelDailyNews reports that the airline and Kolet are offering digital data plans that can be bought and installed before departure. Mercado separately reports the July 3 start date from TAAG's statement.
This is an optional connectivity product, not mobile data included with a TAAG ticket. No complimentary allowance, airfare bundle or Umbi Umbi mileage benefit was announced. The traveler still chooses and pays for a package.
TAAG says it plans to measure activations, conversion and revenue. That makes this an airline ancillary service, similar to buying insurance or baggage options, rather than a change to the flight itself.
The offer is not currently promoted in Angola
The initial communications cover TAAG's international markets excluding Angola. That detail matters for passengers whose journey starts in Luanda or another Angolan departure point: the service may exist, but the airline has not promised that those customers will receive the pre-departure email or SMS.
TravelDailyNews says TAAG intends to add the offer to Online Check-in and Manage My Booking later. Until TAAG confirms that rollout, travelers should not assume the package will appear beside every reservation.
The exclusion also does not mean Kolet lacks plans for Angola. Kolet's live destination catalog lists Angola. It means the first TAAG promotion channel excludes the Angolan market. Those are different claims.
If no offer arrives, do not follow an unofficial payment link from a message or social post. Use a verified TAAG touchpoint, Kolet's own app or site, or compare a Roaming eSIM for Angola directly.

Install before the flight, but start the plan at the destination
Kolet's current eSIM FAQ tells travelers to install while they have a reliable internet connection. It says the data plan starts after activation at the destination and first mobile-data use, not when the profile is merely added to the phone.
That makes pre-flight installation sensible, but only after checking the exact package. Save the QR code or installation instructions offline, keep the confirmation email, and avoid deleting the profile if setup looks incomplete. Many eSIM activation codes cannot simply be scanned again on another phone.
After landing:
- Select the travel profile for mobile data.
- Enable data roaming for that travel profile if its instructions require it.
- Turn off cellular-data switching so the phone cannot silently use the home line.
- Keep home-line data roaming off unless the home carrier has confirmed an intended service and price.
- Test maps and messaging before leaving airport Wi-Fi.

Calls, SMS and the usual phone number remain separate
The Kolet plan supplies mobile data. It does not replace the number attached to a traveler's normal SIM and does not promise ordinary incoming mobile calls or verification texts.
Kolet supports internet calling apps over data. It also sells a separate app-based service for outbound calls to regular numbers, paid with Koins. That feature is not the same as receiving a local mobile number, and Kolet's published calling guidance says SMS is not supported by the calling service.

Hotspot, validity and unused data need a package-level check
Kolet says hotspot sharing is allowed on compatible devices. A laptop or second phone uses the same allowance, so a small package can disappear quickly during video calls, cloud backups or automatic updates.
Country and regional packages generally use their stated validity after activation. Kolet's current FAQ says many destination plans are valid for 30 days, while its Global packages can have different periods depending on allowance. The product shown at checkout is the authority for the selected trip.
Kolet also lets users convert eligible unused data into Koins under its current rules. That is store credit, not a cash refund. Check the current conversion and expiry terms in the app before relying on it.
TAAG and Kolet or Roaming eSIM?
TAAG's option is convenient when a passenger receives a verified message and the offered Kolet package fits the itinerary. Roaming eSIM has the stronger fit when the traveler wants to start with the route and compare public package fields without depending on airline eligibility or rollout timing.

Will the plan work in Angola?
Kolet lists Angola in its destination catalog, but the first TAAG promotional rollout excludes the Angolan market. Check the exact Angola package rather than confusing promotion eligibility with network availability.
When should I install and activate it?
Install on reliable internet before departure after reading the package terms. Kolet says the plan starts when it is activated at the destination and begins using mobile data.
Can I keep my normal number?
Yes, on a compatible dual-SIM phone. The usual number stays with the home line, whose roaming charges and behavior remain separate from the travel-data profile.
