Taipei Nuit Blanche 2026: art, free entry and last trains
Taipei Nuit Blanche runs from 2pm on Saturday, October 31, to 2am on Sunday, November 1, 2026. The main festival is free. Its Yuanshan and Qingguang programme mixes interactive installations, sculpture, dance and theatre. Pick the kind of experience you want, check its location and session rules, then decide how you will get home.
The city's cultural programme identifies Yuanshan Natural Landscape Park, the Yuanshan area of Taipei Expo Park, Tatung University and the Qingguang neighbourhood. This is a spread of spaces, not one building where every work is immediately beside the entrance.
You can make a shorter visit in the afternoon or evening. Staying until the festival closes is an option, not a requirement, and its closing time does not tell you when the last train to your accommodation leaves.

What NIGHT KA SHI means for your visit
The organizer connects this year's theme to nakashi, a tradition of mobile live entertainment. The programme uses movement, sound and participation rather than treating art only as something to look at from a distance.
That does not mean every visitor must join a performance. A sculpture stop, a sound installation and an interactive theatre session can demand different amounts of time, attention and language understanding. Choose a few that suit your group instead of automatically following the largest crowd.
Free admission is also different from unlimited capacity. The programme's inclusion of a work does not confirm that it operates for the full twelve hours or that every activity is a walk-in. Read the specific page and the latest notices before building your night around it.
Which works should you shortlist?
These choices come from the current official descriptions, not an account of visiting the 2026 event. Use them to decide what interests you; the final map, session details and staff instructions determine where and how you can take part.
| If you want... | A current programme choice | What to check before committing |
|---|---|---|
| To handle and rearrange imagery | Mei-Chi Wu's Moving the Forest | Participation instructions and the current location |
| Movement that produces sound | Chung-Kun Wang's Rondo Disco 2026 | Staff guidance for using the moving platform |
| Sculpture without a theatre storyline | Chu-Fang Hsiao's The Unplugged Soul | The map position and viewing conditions |
| A responsive light-and-music installation | Chung-Han Yao's Midnight Music Box | Operating periods, queue and participation conditions |
| A story you help change | Blackcat and Nagashi in Midnight 1972 | Session time, capacity and language |
| Dance and a street-party format | Jann Gallois's Block Party | The performance time and audience arrangements |
Hands-on imagery or physical movement
Moving the Forest places bird, plant and nature imagery on movable cubes. Turning and rearranging them changes the relationships between the images. It is a choice to consider if your group enjoys manipulating a work rather than watching a scheduled stage performance.
Rondo Disco 2026 uses a tilted circular platform: visitors' weight and gravity generate movement and sound. The official description explains the mechanism, but does not establish that it is suitable for every child or mobility need. Follow the onsite participation instructions and choose another work if its movement does not suit you.
Sculpture or a louder music stop
The Unplugged Soul turns Chu-Fang Hsiao's drawn characters into large sculptures, retaining their distinctive facial expressions. It gives you something to examine without committing to an interactive theatre story.
An Electronic Monster #51: Midnight Music Box links visitors' movement to changing music and light effects. The announced work remixes familiar supermarket music into electronic dance music. If flashing light, loud sound or a crowded participatory setting is difficult for someone in your group, check the conditions before joining rather than assuming the whole festival has one sensory level.
Interactive theatre or dance
Blackcat and Nagashi in Midnight 1972, by Ridge Theater and How To Eat Faust Studio, uses a tabletop theatre format with maps, cards, props and live actors. Participants can influence the story. Check the session language and joining rules: an English title alone does not prove English-language participation.
Block Party combines music and dance, drawing on the street-party roots of hip-hop. Treat it as a performance to locate and time, not an attraction you can assume is continuously available whenever you pass.
Choose Yuanshan or Qingguang as your starting area
The official transport page identifies two useful Metro approaches:
| Your first area | Station | Line |
|---|---|---|
| Taipei Expo Park and the main Yuanshan area | Yuanshan | Tamsui-Xinyi, Red Line |
| Qingguang and the art-in-shops area | Zhongshan Elementary School | Zhonghe-Xinlu, Orange Line |
The organizer describes roughly a five-minute walk from Yuanshan station to the Expo Park area. That is not a five-minute walk to every work. Save the map pin for your first confirmed choice and use the station that fits it.
For a first visit, choose one main area and leave the other optional. A sculpture, a performance and a food break can make a worthwhile outing without crossing the entire programme. Confirm the order from the final locations rather than assuming the six works above form a ready-made walking route.
Do not assume Tatung University's whole campus is open. Event access applies to the published festival areas and instructions, not unrestricted entry to every building.
Will the Metro run until the festival ends at 2am?
Do not assume an extension. The event's transport page, checked October 12, did not announce extended Metro hours. Taipei Metro's current Red Line service page lists normal operating hours as 6am-midnight and directs passengers to station-specific last-train information.
Use the operator's first- and last-train lookup for your departure station, direction and any transfer. Midnight is a general service window, not a promise that you can enter every station at that time and finish any connection.
Make the return decision before choosing a late performance. If you intend to stay after your last usable train, arrange another way back and save your accommodation address. Check any booking service's actual pickup instructions and availability; a map of nearby roads does not guarantee that a car can reach a crowded event entrance.
Do not use New Year's Eve's special operating arrangements as evidence for October 31. If a dated festival transport announcement appears, follow that announcement and the operator's current notices.
A shorter visit, children and accessibility
For a shorter outing, choose one priority work and another nearby option, with a proper break between them. With children, the afternoon opening gives you a way to attend without planning a 2am departure. It does not prove that every performance is designed for children or runs in daylight.
Read any age, participation and access conditions before choosing an interactive work. A stroller may help on the journey, but it does not establish access to a platform, theatre table or crowded viewing area. Ask the organizer about essential access needs that the listing does not answer.
Agree a meeting point away from the busiest entrance, keep companions' contact details available and leave enough battery for the return journey. Carry a weather-appropriate layer and recheck the forecast and organizer's notices on the day. There is no basis for promising that outdoor works continue unchanged during bad weather.
Food shops and nearby markets have their own hours. The festival's 2am finish is not a guarantee that every restaurant around Qingguang will serve until then. Plan a meal around your chosen session rather than leaving it to the final departure.
October 31 also has a separate Taiwan Pride programme
If you are in Taipei for the same weekend, our Taiwan Pride 2026 guide covers that separate event and its participation checks. It is not part of Nuit Blanche, and a parade instruction or party ticket does not establish an art-night route or reservation.
Choose which activity matters most, then allow a break and travel time before adding another. Do not build a full day around an old parade map and then assume the evening arts programme fits immediately afterwards. Each organizer's dated instructions need their own check.
Useful maps, Wi-Fi and regional mobile data
Taipei Metro's map guidance points visitors to downloadable route information and the Go! Taipei Metro app. Save the transport map as well as the festival shortlist; they answer different questions.
The operator also lists TPE-Free Wi-Fi at Metro information counters and other named hotspots. That is useful where available, but does not establish continuous Wi-Fi coverage while walking between every artwork. Download your key details before arrival and keep a working way to receive changes or messages.
The OpenSim option shown here is a regional plan, not a Taiwan-only plan. On October 12, Asia (12 areas) included a fixed 5GB, 30-day option at US$27 with top-up support. Its verified coverage includes Taiwan, Japan and Singapore, among other listed destinations, with Chunghwa listed for Taiwan.
Its practical advantage is coverage for a supported multi-country trip without choosing a separate data plan for each included stop. If you are only visiting Taipei, you may be paying for a wider coverage area than you need: compare suitable home roaming and local options too. A named radio network does not establish the internet exit country, indoor coverage or uninterrupted service in a crowd.
For that coverage decision, use our country versus regional eSIM guide. Check the travel data calculator, phone compatibility guide and installation timing guide before choosing. Sensitive work systems may also need the checks explained in our travel eSIM routing guide.
Before October 31
- Save the current location and conditions of your priority work.
- Confirm performance times, capacity and language where relevant.
- Choose a starting station and a return journey, including transfers.
- Recheck dated weather and transport notices.
- Leave space for food and rest rather than trying to finish the whole programme.
Dates, works and transport guidance were checked on October 12, 2026, against the organizer, the city's cultural feature and Taipei Metro. The city's feature was updated October 9. This guide will be reviewed when final performance times, access conditions or event-specific transport changes are announced. General festival hours do not guarantee continuous operation of every work or late trains.
