Thai AirAsia X resumed nonstop flights between Bangkok Don Mueang and Nagoya Chubu on October 2, 2026. The route runs four days a week, giving travelers another direct option between Thailand and central Japan.

The overnight departure from Bangkok can save daytime, but the low-cost fare needs a careful look. Check the airport, baggage and onward connection before comparing the headline price.

Unbranded passenger aircraft flying between Bangkok and Nagoya

The practical answer: Thai AirAsia X flies XJ638 from Don Mueang to Chubu and XJ639 in the other direction on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The launch timetable shows 00:45 from Bangkok and 10:30 from Nagoya. Search the exact date before travel because times change after the seasonal schedule switch.

This guide was checked on October 2, 2026, when the resumed service began.

The route operates four times a week

AirAsia's September 22 route announcement lists Nagoya among Thai AirAsia X's four Japan destinations and confirms four weekly flights from October 2. The current published timetable is:

DirectionFlightDaysDepartureArrival
Bangkok Don Mueang to Nagoya ChubuXJ638Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun00:4508:50
Nagoya Chubu to Bangkok Don MueangXJ639Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun10:3014:40

The times are local. Nagoya is two hours ahead of Bangkok, so XJ638 has a scheduled elapsed time of 6 hours 5 minutes and XJ639 takes 6 hours 10 minutes. TRAICY's current schedule report says the flights use an Airbus A330 and are planned through March 26, 2027.

Published schedules can move at the winter timetable change. Use the airline's booking result and issued itinerary for the travel date, then check flight status again before leaving for the airport.

XJ flights use Don Mueang, not Suvarnabhumi

The Bangkok airport code is DMK. Do not set out for Suvarnabhumi Airport, whose code is BKK. Airports of Thailand's Don Mueang airline directory lists Thai AirAsia X as XJ and places its airport office in Passenger Terminal 1.

This matters most for a self-connection. DMK and BKK are separate airports on different sides of Bangkok. Immigration, bag collection, road traffic and a fresh check-in make a same-day transfer less predictable than the distance on a map suggests.

If another ticket uses BKK, treat it as an airport change, not a normal terminal connection. A long buffer or overnight stay is safer than relying on the minimum road time.

Both flights use Terminal 1 at Chubu

Current schedules place XJ638 and XJ639 at Terminal 1 at Chubu Centrair International Airport. Centrair's Terminal 1 guide says the terminal connects directly to Access Plaza, where passengers reach trains, buses, taxis and other ground transport.

Terminal 1 is not the same building as Terminal 2. Confirm the terminal on the boarding pass and airport screens, particularly if a separate domestic flight departs from Chubu later that day.

An international arrival still needs time for immigration, baggage and customs. Do not book a fixed train or a tight domestic connection on the assumption that an 08:50 scheduled landing puts you in the public arrivals hall at 08:50.

The cabin allowance is two pieces sharing 7 kg

AirAsia's current baggage guide permits one cabin bag plus one small personal item. The two pieces share a combined 7 kg limit. The larger bag may measure up to 56 by 36 by 23 cm; the smaller item may measure up to 40 by 30 by 10 cm and must fit under the seat.

That combined weight catches travelers who assume the personal item gets a separate allowance. Weigh the laptop, camera and duty-free purchases with the main bag, not just the suitcase.

Checked baggage depends on the bundle or add-on bought. Read the allowance shown on the booking rather than assuming a checked bag is included, and add baggage before the airport when possible. A bag that passes another airline's rule is not automatically compliant with AirAsia's dimensions or weight.

Check-in deadlines are earlier than an arrival target

Thai AirAsia X is the XJ carrier, so use the XJ deadline shown in AirAsia's check-in guidance and on the booking. AirAsia advises passengers to arrive well before counter closure, especially for international document checks and checked baggage.

An online check-in confirmation does not remove every airport step. Some passengers still need a document check or printed boarding pass, and a bag must be accepted before the bag-drop cutoff. Take the passport used for the booking and keep the itinerary available offline.

For the 00:45 XJ638 departure, the airport date can be confusing: check-in happens late on the previous evening. Put both the counter-opening date and the departure date in the calendar.

Prepare the arrival process before landing

Japan's Digital Agency describes Visit Japan Web as an online service for immigration and customs arrival procedures. It is not a visa and does not decide whether a passport holder may enter Japan. Check the visa or exemption rules for the passport being used, then save any generated code so it can be opened without airport Wi-Fi.

For the return journey, Thailand's official Digital Arrival Card guide says non-Thai nationals must submit the TDAC within the three days before arrival, including the arrival date. The form is free on the official immigration domain. It does not replace a visa when one is required.

Entry rules can change independently of the flight schedule. Airline staff may need to verify documents before boarding, so leave time for that check and use government sources rather than a paid imitation form.

The fastest train to Nagoya takes about 28 minutes

Centrair's official rail guide says Central Japan International Airport Station is directly connected to Access Plaza. The fastest Meitetsu μ-SKY service reaches Nagoya in about 28 minutes.

A μticket is required in addition to the regular fare for μ-SKY and first-class cars on limited express services. Other trains can take longer and may make more stops, so check the departure board rather than treating 28 minutes as the time for every service.

Nagoya Station is a large interchange. Add walking time if continuing to the Shinkansen, a hotel or another railway. The morning arrival is useful for onward travel, but immigration and baggage make a very tight reserved connection unnecessary.

Separate tickets leave the risk with the traveler

Travelers often ask whether one or two hours is enough at DMK or Chubu. The decisive details are whether both flights share one protected booking, whether baggage is checked through, whether immigration is required and whether the airport changes.

With separate tickets, plan to collect bags, enter the country when required and check in again. If the first flight is late, the second airline does not normally have to move the onward booking. A connection from DMK to BKK adds a road transfer and should receive a much larger buffer.

If missing the next flight would end an expensive itinerary, stay overnight or buy a protected connection. The cheapest combination is not always the cheapest trip after a replacement fare and hotel.

Mobile data for Thailand and Japan

For a trip focused on central Japan, compare the live Japan OpenSim eSIM. For Bangkok and the rest of Thailand, use the Thailand OpenSim eSIM.

Travelers visiting both countries can also compare the Asia 12 Areas OpenSim eSIM. Its current coverage includes Japan and Thailand, so one compatible regional plan may be more convenient than switching plans after each flight.

OpenSim's public catalog was checked on October 2. Confirm the selected plan's data, validity, speed policy, hotspot support, network coverage and top-up eligibility before paying. Not every plan is reloadable.

Install the eSIM on reliable Wi-Fi before the trip and follow the package's activation rule. Data is useful for flight alerts, arrival forms, train times and pickup messages, but it does not replace entry documents or protect a missed connection.

Ten questions about Thai AirAsia X Bangkok-Nagoya flights

Is Thai AirAsia X flying from Bangkok to Nagoya now?

Yes. The route resumed on October 2, 2026 with four weekly round trips. Search the exact date because a route can be operating while a particular flight changes or does not run.

What days do XJ638 and XJ639 operate?

The launch schedule lists Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. XJ638 leaves Bangkok at 00:45, while XJ639 leaves Nagoya at 10:30. Recheck after a seasonal timetable change.

Does the Bangkok flight leave from DMK or BKK?

It leaves from Don Mueang, airport code DMK. BKK is Suvarnabhumi, a different airport. Confirm DMK on the itinerary before arranging transport.

Which terminal does Thai AirAsia X use at Nagoya?

Current schedules place the route at Chubu Centrair Terminal 1. Check the boarding pass and airport screens because operational terminal assignments can change.

How much cabin baggage can I take on Thai AirAsia X?

AirAsia permits one cabin bag and one small personal item with a combined limit of 7 kg. The main bag may measure up to 56 by 36 by 23 cm and the small item up to 40 by 30 by 10 cm.

Is checked baggage included in the fare?

It depends on the fare bundle and extras selected. Use the allowance printed on the booking as the final answer, and price any needed checked bag before comparing fares.

Can I connect from Don Mueang to Suvarnabhumi on the same day?

Yes, but it is an airport change across Bangkok. Allow for immigration, baggage, road traffic and a new check-in. Separate tickets are unprotected, so a generous buffer or overnight stop is prudent.

Do I need Visit Japan Web before landing at Chubu?

Visit Japan Web can prepare immigration and customs information, but it is not a visa. Eligibility still depends on the passport and trip. Saving the code offline can make it easier to retrieve after landing.

How do I get from Chubu Airport to Nagoya?

Follow signs from Terminal 1 to Access Plaza and Central Japan International Airport Station. The fastest μ-SKY train takes about 28 minutes and needs a μticket plus the regular fare.

Can one OpenSim plan work in both Thailand and Japan?

Yes, when the selected regional plan explicitly includes both countries. The current Asia 12 Areas product does. Compare its allowance and validity with separate Japan and Thailand plans before choosing.

Before booking

  • Confirm DMK, not BKK, for the Bangkok sector.
  • Search the exact travel date and local times.
  • Check the fare's checked-bag allowance.
  • Weigh both cabin pieces together against the 7 kg limit.
  • Put the previous evening's check-in time in the calendar for XJ638.
  • Verify Japan and Thailand entry requirements for the passport used.
  • Leave time for immigration before a train or onward flight.
  • Avoid a tight, unprotected transfer between DMK and BKK.
  • Save the booking, arrival forms and ground-transport details offline.
  • Recheck flight status before setting out.

Source check for the Bangkok-Nagoya route

AirAsia's newsroom supports the October 2 start, four-weekly frequency and XJ carrier identity. Current schedule reporting supports the flight numbers, days, local times, aircraft and planned seasonal period. AirAsia's own passenger guidance supports the cabin-bag and check-in advice.

Airports of Thailand supports the Don Mueang carrier and terminal information. Chubu Centrair supports Terminal 1 access and the rail journey. Japan's Digital Agency and Thailand Immigration support the arrival-form guidance.

Public traveler discussions were used to select practical questions about the 7 kg cabin limit, separate tickets, airport changes, arrival forms and the Centrair train. They were not treated as authority for airline, airport or immigration rules.

We will update this guide if Thai AirAsia X changes the route's frequency, timetable, terminal, baggage or check-in policy, or if either country changes its arrival process.
