TIM Brasil adds cross-platform eSIM transfer between phones
TIM Brasil has introduced direct eSIM transfers between selected phones running different operating systems. The carrier's current instructions specifically document an iPhone-to-Motorola move and a Motorola-to-iPhone move, alongside transfers to a new phone within the same device family.
The change removes a real inconvenience for eligible TIM customers upgrading before a trip: they can move their Brazilian line through the phone settings instead of automatically visiting a store or handling a physical SIM. It does not make every eSIM transferable, and it does not move a separate travel eSIM bought from another provider.
The traveler answer: Move and test the TIM line before departure, while the old phone and reliable Wi-Fi are still available. Then install or transfer any travel eSIM under that provider's own rules. Confirm calls, SMS and one-time codes on the TIM number before relying on the new phone abroad.
What TIM Brasil and HCLTech launched
HCLTech announced the deployment on July 22, 2026, describing it as South America's first cross-platform eSIM transfer capability. Its Device Entitlement Gateway connects the handset's transfer request to TIM's network systems so an eligible profile can be moved without swapping a card.
TIM's public help pages now put the feature into practical terms:
- a TIM customer needs an active TIM plan and a compatible new phone;
- TIM documents transfer from an iPhone to a Motorola;
- TIM documents transfer from a Motorola to an iPhone;
- iPhone-to-iPhone transfer requires an iPhone 11 or newer on TIM's current page; and
- the carrier's online SIM-change portal remains the fallback when the device-menu route is unavailable.
That is narrower than “any phone to any phone.” TIM's checked instructions do not promise direct cross-platform transfer for every Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi or other Android model. Travelers should use the exact model instructions shown by TIM rather than assuming operating-system support alone is enough.
The TIM eSIM transfer moves the Brazilian line, not every profile
An eSIM-capable phone can store multiple carrier profiles, but each profile is issued and controlled by its provider. TIM's transfer process concerns the customer's TIM subscription and phone number.
If the same device also contains a Roaming eSIM for Brazil, Europe or another destination, the TIM action does not transfer that travel profile. Check the travel package's installation and replacement terms separately. Some providers permit a replacement or reinstallation; others tie a downloaded profile to the first device.
This distinction matters during a phone upgrade. A successful TIM transfer proves the home line moved. It says nothing about whether the second profile moved, whether its data plan remains valid or whether it can be downloaded again.

Transfer the home line before adding travel data
The safest sequence before an international trip is:
- update both phones and connect them to reliable Wi-Fi;
- back up the old phone without deleting either eSIM;
- follow TIM's instructions for the exact old and new models;
- confirm the TIM line can make or receive a call and receive an SMS;
- check that banking and account verification messages reach the new phone;
- install the destination data eSIM while internet access is available; and
- label the lines clearly, then select the travel eSIM for mobile data after arrival.
Do not factory-reset or trade in the old handset until both lines are accounted for. TIM's FAQ warns that restoring a phone while its eSIM remains configured can require a new profile and, in some cases, a store visit.

Compatibility and carrier lock still apply
Cross-platform transfer cannot add eSIM hardware to an unsupported phone. TIM says the new device must be compatible, and its model pages are the current source for supported flows. An imported handset may also support different bands or carrier features from a Brazilian retail model.

Keep enough free eSIM slots as well. A phone may store several profiles but allow only a smaller number to remain active at once. That limit comes from the device, not from TIM or Roaming eSIM.
Lost or broken phones still need a recovery route
Direct transfer works best when the old device is present and usable. TIM's announcement does not say that a customer with a lost, stolen or broken handset can always recover the line through the same phone-to-phone flow.
Use TIM's official SIM-change portal or support route in that situation. Secure the lost device and relevant accounts first, particularly if the TIM number receives password-reset or banking codes. Do not publish an EID, IMEI, QR code or activation code in a public support post.
Travelers should keep the TIM account credentials, device purchase details and support links somewhere accessible without the missing phone. An eSIM removes a plastic card; it does not remove identity checks during account recovery.
TIM transfer or Roaming eSIM: they solve different jobs
TIM's new capability wins for an eligible customer who wants to keep the same Brazilian subscription and number while changing between a supported iPhone and Motorola. Roaming eSIM is designed for destination data plans, not for moving a TIM phone number.
For visitors to Brazil, the public Roaming eSIM catalog currently exposes 17 plans. A checked 100MB seven-day example cost USD 0.60 and listed Claro, TIM and Vivo with 5G availability, while marking the plan as eligible for top-up. Larger fixed and daily-data options are also available; price, allowance and fair-use fields vary by plan.

Visitors can compare a Brazil Roaming eSIM for a single-country trip. A South America Roaming eSIM may be a better fit for an itinerary crossing several supported countries.
