Truecaller Travel eSIM: 29 buy markets, 155 destinations

August 10, 2026. Truecaller entered the travel-data market on May 21 with plans from 1GB for 7 days to 20GB for 30 days. The launch announcement says customers in 29 markets can buy through the Truecaller iPhone app or the web. Its current Global product page lists coverage in 155 countries.

Those numbers describe different things. The 29-country list is about where Truecaller made the product available to purchase. The 155-country figure describes where its Global plan can connect. A destination in the catalog is not automatically a market where a customer can buy.

The traveler decision: Truecaller Travel eSIM is a practical option for an eligible customer who wants data inside the iPhone app or through its website. Check the purchase market, supported networks, activation clock and profile rules before paying. In the three exact 1GB examples we checked, Roaming eSIM cost less and disclosed more named networks.

What Truecaller launched

Travel eSIM is Truecaller's first mobile-data product. It sits alongside caller identification and spam protection, but it is a separate prepaid data service. Truecaller says more than 500 million people use its communication products, giving this launch a much larger starting audience than a typical new travel-eSIM brand.

The current offer has three main routes:

The launch range runs from 1GB for 7 days to 20GB for 30 days. These are fixed data allowances, not unlimited-data plans. Prices, available operators and inventory can vary by destination, so the product page and final checkout are the records to check before purchase.

The 29 Truecaller eSIM countries are purchase markets

Truecaller's announcement names these 29 places where the product was available to purchase at launch:

• Italy, Sweden, Spain, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania and the Netherlands
• Belgium, Ireland, Austria, Finland, Czechia, Denmark and Hungary
• United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and New Zealand
• Switzerland, Norway, Chile, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria

The company described Android app support and more purchase markets as future expansion. We found no newer first-party announcement replacing that 29-market list by the August 10 review date.

The coverage catalog is much broader. India, for example, appears as a destination with plans listed from USD 4, but India is not in the published purchase-market list. A traveler beginning in India should not treat the destination listing as proof that their location, billing details or account can complete a purchase. Check the live checkout before depending on the plan.

This distinction also works the other way. A customer in one of the 29 purchase markets may buy a country, regional or Global plan for a supported destination elsewhere. The home market is where the buying route is offered; the destination is where the plan provides data.

Can Android users buy a Truecaller Travel eSIM?

Yes, through the web, provided the device supports eSIM and is unlocked. The launch release says the website opened the product to compatible Android devices from day one. It separately says Truecaller planned to add the product to its Android app.

That means there are two different app questions:

• iPhone: Truecaller promotes an in-app purchase and management path, as well as web access.
• Android: the published launch path is the website. Do not assume the Android Truecaller app contains the same travel-eSIM screens unless they are visible in the current version on your device.

Buying on the web does not remove the phone requirements. Truecaller's compatibility page says the phone must support eSIM, be carrier-unlocked and not be jailbroken or rooted. Some regional versions of otherwise compatible phones do not include eSIM. Dialing *#06# and finding an EID is a useful first check, but an EID does not prove that the phone is unlocked.

When the plan starts and how long it lasts

Truecaller's current destination pages say the data validity starts on the first successful connection in the covered destination. Installation by itself should not start the 7, 15, 21 or 30-day use period under that published rule.

The same pages also publish a 365-day activation period. If a purchased plan has not connected by the deadline, Truecaller says it activates automatically. That makes early installation practical, but it does not mean an unused plan can wait indefinitely.

A safer preparation sequence is:

1. Confirm the phone supports eSIM and is unlocked.
2. Buy and install while reliable Wi-Fi is available.
3. Keep the Truecaller line off for mobile data until the destination, unless the plan instructions say otherwise.
4. At arrival, turn on the travel line and data roaming for that line.
5. Set it as the cellular-data line and disable automatic data switching if that could move data back to the home carrier.
6. Leave the usual SIM active only if calls or messages are needed, with its chargeable data roaming disabled.

Data tracking, top-ups and hotspot use

Truecaller's help center says the account shows the active plan, remaining data and status. It also describes push and email notices as the allowance runs low. If the data is already exhausted, the user may need Wi-Fi to return to the account and buy more.

The installed Truecaller eSIM profile can accept another plan, including one for a different destination. That is useful because it avoids installing a fresh profile for every trip. Truecaller describes a top-up button after a plan becomes active.

Hotspot use is supported according to the current help material. The connected laptop or second phone uses the same allowance, so a 1GB plan can disappear quickly during video calls, operating-system updates or cloud photo uploads. Operator and speed disclosure still needs attention. The checked destination pages showed a named lead operator, sometimes followed by +1, and a maximum network generation such as up to 5G. A +1 label does not tell the buyer the second operator's name. Up to 5G also does not guarantee 5G at every address or on every device.

Does Truecaller eSIM include calls, SMS or a number?

No. Truecaller describes Travel eSIM as a data-only service. It does not provide a local phone number, carrier voice calls or SMS.

WhatsApp, FaceTime, Signal and other internet calling or messaging services can use the travel data. An existing WhatsApp account can normally keep its registered number as long as the app remains set up, but account recovery and verification codes may still depend on access to the usual SIM.

Keep the home line enabled if incoming calls or SMS are essential. Then select the travel eSIM for cellular data and turn off roaming data on the home line. Do not delete the profile during troubleshooting

Truecaller's public guidance is not fully aligned on profile recovery.

The product and compatibility material says the eSIM can be reinstalled on the same device up to five times. Its troubleshooting page takes a stricter position: do not delete the eSIM, because the profile is tied to the device and may become irretrievable. Truecaller also says it cannot be transferred to another device.

Both statements can be true only under limited recovery conditions, but the public pages do not define those conditions clearly enough for a traveler to rely on them. The safe choice is to leave the profile installed and contact Truecaller support before deleting it. A factory reset, phone replacement or device trade-in should be planned as a possible loss of the profile and remaining plan.

Truecaller refund limits after installation

Installation changes the refund position. Truecaller's current troubleshooting and refund guidance says the customer waives the statutory withdrawal right once the eSIM profile is installed. A provider-caused technical problem may qualify for a proportionate remedy when it is reported within 30 days, and Truecaller says it investigates within seven business days.

The published exclusions are important. Truecaller does not promise refunds for an incompatible or locked device, weak coverage at a particular remote location, an accidental purchase that has already been installed, or a profile the customer deleted. Coverage on a destination page is not a promise of signal in every building, road or rural area.

Truecaller Travel eSIM versus Roaming eSIM

Truecaller's advantage is convenience for an eligible customer already using its iPhone app. Its website gives Android users a route too, and one installed profile can accept later plans. The 365-day unused-plan window also suits someone buying well before departure.

Roaming eSIM gives the traveler a broader public shopping route and more detail before checkout. Its current product cards show price, allowance, validity, supported operators, network generation and whether the selected package is reloadable. A buyer does not need to be in one of Truecaller's 29 published purchase markets to browse the catalog.

🏆 Roaming eSIM wins the checked price comparison: it was cheaper in every exact 1GB/7-day market below and published more named network options. This is a dated three-market result, not a claim that every Roaming eSIM plan is always cheaper.

We checked Truecaller's destination pages and the public Roaming eSIM package catalog on August 10 at about 02:25 UTC. Each row compares a fixed 1GB plan valid for 7 days.

Prices and inventory can change after publication. Final checkout totals may also reflect the buyer's currency or payment fees. A published operator is a supported option, not a guarantee that the phone will connect to every listed network or receive 5G everywhere.

For a multi-country trip, compare the total allowance and full destination list rather than buying only on the lowest starting price. A Europe Roaming eSIM may be simpler than several country plans. A Global Roaming eSIM can make sense when the itinerary crosses regions, but every stop should be checked individually.

Who should choose each option?

Truecaller Travel eSIM fits an eligible traveler who:

• already uses the Truecaller iPhone app and values an in-app purchase route;
• wants to install one profile and add future destination plans to it;
• can confirm that the home purchase market and every destination are supported;
• accepts a data-only service and the current no-transfer rule; and
• finds the live price, named operator and support terms suitable at checkout.

Roaming eSIM is the stronger fit when the traveler:

• is outside Truecaller's published purchase markets or wants a public web catalog;
• wants several named network options disclosed before purchase;
• prefers the lower price in one of the three exact comparisons above;
• needs country, regional and Global choices side by side; or
• wants reloadability identified at package level rather than assumed for every plan.

Neither provider can guarantee indoor, rural or moving-vehicle coverage. Independent network-performance data was not available for this comparison, so no speed or reliability winner is declared.

Ten questions travelers ask about Truecaller Travel eSIM

1. Does Truecaller eSIM work in only 29 countries? No. The 29-country figure is the published purchase-market list. The current Global plan lists 155 coverage destinations.
2. Can I buy from any of the 155 destinations? Do not assume so. Check whether your purchase market and checkout are supported separately from destination coverage.
3. Can Android users buy it? Yes, the launch announcement says compatible Android devices can use the website. Android app integration was described as a later expansion.
4. Does it include calls, SMS or a local number? No. It is data only. Internet calling and messaging apps can use the allowance.
5. Can I keep WhatsApp and my usual number? The travel line can supply data while the usual SIM stays active. Carrier charges and verification access still depend on the home line and its provider.
6. When does the validity start? Truecaller says it starts at the first successful network connection in the covered destination. An unused plan also has a published 365-day activation deadline.
7. Can I share data by hotspot? Truecaller's current help material says yes. Every connected device uses the same allowance.
8. Can I reinstall or move the eSIM? Truecaller says no device transfer. Its same-device reinstall and deletion guidance conflicts, so do not delete the profile without support instructions.
9. Can I get a refund if there is no signal? Not automatically. Truecaller excludes weak coverage at a specific remote place but describes a remedy route for provider-caused technical failure reported within 30 days.
10. Is Truecaller or Roaming eSIM cheaper? Roaming eSIM was cheaper in the three exact 1GB/7-day checks in this report. Compare the live checkout for the destination and allowance you actually need.
