United Terminal B North opens at Houston IAH

United's new Terminal B North Concourse at George Bush Intercontinental Airport opens to passengers on October 22, 2026. The three-level concourse has 22 mainline gates, and every United flight using those gates will board through a jet bridge.

The opening does not mean every United flight moves to Terminal B. Check the terminal and gate in your reservation before leaving for IAH, then check again after arrival. Houston Airport's construction notices and pickup guidance were still being updated when this article was reviewed on October 21.

*Original AI-generated OpenSim editorial illustration. The traveler, terminal and unbranded aircraft are conceptual and do not depict the actual Terminal B North concourse or a United flight.*

The practical answer: passengers with a B gate should use the latest United boarding pass and IAH alert, not an older terminal screenshot. Allow time for a terminal transfer, especially if check-in, bag drop, security, a lounge visit or pickup is in another part of the airport.

What opens on October 22

United's opening announcement describes a new north concourse rather than a complete relocation of the airline's Houston operation.

FeatureOpening-day position
Passenger openingOctober 22, 2026
New gates22 mainline gates in Terminal B North
BoardingA jet bridge for every United flight using the north concourse
New United Club54,000 square feet with seating for 800
Passenger facilitiesSensory room, soft play area, seating zones and 11 restroom sets

The 22 gates are designed for narrow-body aircraft and give United more room for larger aircraft than the old north flight stations. They do not establish the gate for a particular flight. Aircraft and gates can change for operational reasons.

Check the gate before choosing a curb or checkpoint

United's current IAH airport map lists United and United Express across several terminals. Terminal B is not a self-contained United airport.

That matters because Houston Airport's construction alert still tells some Terminal B passengers to use Terminal C for check-in, bag drop and security during the transformation. A separate project notice also carries construction-era directions. Neither page clearly confirms that every part of the central processor changes at the same moment as the new north concourse.

Use this order on the day of travel:

  1. Check in with United and note the terminal and gate on the current boarding pass.
  2. Read the live IAH alert for Terminal B before choosing a drop-off point.
  3. If checking a bag, follow the location United gives for that flight.
  4. After security, use the airport map or United app for the gate route.
  5. Recheck the gate after reaching the airport because a B gate can change.

This is one situation where the flight-specific instruction is more useful than a general terminal rule.

Skyway and Subway serve different sides of security

IAH has two rail systems with similar names. They are not interchangeable.

The airport's interterminal transportation guide says the Skyway links the terminals after security. It is free, runs daily and normally departs every two minutes. The airport lists a total ride of 4 minutes and 15 seconds from Terminal A to D/E, but walking and waiting make the full gate-to-gate trip longer.

The Subway runs before security. It normally departs every three minutes and operates from 3:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. A trip between adjacent stations takes about three minutes. A passenger who exits security to use the Subway must allow time for screening again.

For a connection, follow the post-security Skyway signs unless United or airport staff direct you to the optional shuttle. Do not leave the secure area merely because a map shows a short terminal distance.

The new United Club is not open to every passenger

Terminal B North includes a 54,000-square-foot United Club on the mezzanine level. United says it seats 800 people and has an outdoor terrace, two buffet stations, two full-service bars, 11 private phone rooms, Wi-Fi and power outlets.

Entry still depends on United's current lounge-access rules. A Terminal B boarding pass alone is not enough. Access may come from an eligible United Club membership, certain premium-cabin itineraries, Star Alliance Gold status, an eligible credit card or a valid one-time pass.

One-time pass entry is subject to capacity. United also limits most one-time-pass visits to the three hours before departure, although that timing limit does not apply during a connection. Check the access page against the exact ticket, status, membership or card benefit before building a connection around the lounge.

Families and passengers needing assistance get more space

United lists a sensory room, soft play area, comfortable seating zones and 11 restroom sets in the new concourse. These are practical improvements for families and travelers who found the old gate areas crowded.

The facilities do not replace airline assistance. Houston Airport says wheelchairs are managed by the airlines, so request one from United in advance. The airport's accessibility guide also covers the Sunflower Lanyard, accessible transport, service-animal areas and help for blind or low-vision passengers.

If a sensory space is essential, ask airport staff to confirm its location and access on the travel day. The airport's older sensory-room page still lists only the established rooms in Terminals A and D, which may not yet reflect the new Terminal B room.

Pickup and ride-app instructions may change during the handover

IAH's taxi and ride-app page still directs some Terminal B South ride-app passengers to Terminal A or C. Other airport pages show Terminal B curb locations for private pickups. The difference matters when a driver and passenger choose a meeting point.

After landing, open the current airport map and the ride app before leaving the terminal. Use the pickup zone shown for that service, then send the driver the terminal, door and zone. Do not assume the new north concourse creates a new ride-app curb on its first day.

Data for a Houston airport journey

An OpenSim United States eSIM can provide mobile data on supported ground networks for the United app, IAH maps, ride-app updates and messages after arrival. The live catalog listed United States plans from US$1.66 when checked on October 21, 2026. Prices and availability can change, so confirm the current card and checkout total before buying.

Install the eSIM on reliable Wi-Fi before travel. Read the selected plan's allowance, validity, network, activation and top-up terms. An eSIM does not replace airport Wi-Fi, make a lounge pass valid, speed up security or guarantee a gate assignment.

Save the boarding pass and essential pickup details offline. Mobile data helps with live changes, but it should not be the only copy of the information needed to reach the gate.

Ten questions about United Terminal B North at Houston

When does United Terminal B North open at IAH?

United says the new concourse opens to passengers on October 22, 2026. This article was checked on October 21, before the first public operating day, so use the live flight status for opening-day travel.

Will every United flight at Houston use Terminal B North?

No. United operates from several IAH terminals, and the new north concourse has 22 gates. The current boarding pass and flight status determine the terminal and gate for a particular flight.

Where should a Terminal B passenger check in and drop bags?

Follow the location shown by United and the current IAH alert. Airport pages still carry construction-era directions that send some Terminal B passengers to Terminal C, so do not choose a curb from an old screenshot.

Can I move from Terminal B to another terminal without clearing security again?

Yes, the Skyway connects IAH terminals after security. The Subway runs before security, so using it after a connection would require leaving the secure area and passing through screening again.

How long should I allow for an IAH terminal connection?

There is no single safe time for every itinerary. The train ride is only one part of the journey. Allow for walking, the train platform, a gate change and boarding cutoff, and use United's connection time in the actual reservation.

Who can enter the new Terminal B United Club?

Eligible members, qualifying premium-cabin passengers, certain status holders, eligible cardholders and valid one-time-pass users may enter under United's current rules. A Terminal B ticket by itself does not include lounge access.

Can I use a United Club one-time pass during a connection?

United permits eligible one-time passes during a connection without the normal three-hour departure limit, but entry remains subject to capacity and the pass rules. Confirm the pass and same-day boarding pass before the trip.

Does the new concourse have a sensory room and children's area?

United says Terminal B North has a sensory room and a soft play area. Ask staff for the current location if either facility is important, because older airport amenity pages may not yet show the new spaces.

Where should a ride-app driver collect me from Terminal B?

Use the live IAH ground-transport page and the pickup point shown in the ride app after landing. Current airport pages contain different instructions for Terminal B South, private cars and ride apps.

Will an OpenSim eSIM work as United inflight Wi-Fi?

No. An OpenSim eSIM uses supported terrestrial mobile networks before departure and after landing. It can help with maps and app updates on the ground, but it does not replace an aircraft's Wi-Fi service.

Before traveling through the new concourse

  • Check the flight terminal and gate in United's app.
  • Read the current IAH Terminal B alert before selecting a drop-off point.
  • Confirm the check-in and bag-drop location for the specific flight.
  • Use Skyway for post-security terminal transfers.
  • Verify lounge eligibility before allowing time for a club visit.
  • Request wheelchair or other airline assistance in advance.
  • Confirm the ride-app pickup zone after landing.
  • Save the boarding pass and meeting details offline.

What we will recheck after opening day

United's October 21 announcement supports the opening date, north-concourse gate count, jet bridges, club size and passenger facilities. Houston Airport and United pages support the transfer, accessibility, lounge and airport-map guidance. Their construction and pickup pages do not yet provide one fully reconciled opening-day instruction, so this guide does not assume that every check-in, security or curb process changes on October 22.

Public traveler discussions were used to identify questions about tight connections, Terminal B crowding, the B-to-C shuttle, arrival time, lounge access, security, pickup and traveling with children. They were not used as proof of current airport policy.

We will update this page after IAH confirms the settled Terminal B check-in, screening and ground-transport arrangements, or if United changes the concourse, lounge or gate information.
