The 2026 World Rowing Championships run from Monday, August 24 through Sunday, August 30 at the Bosbaan in Amsterdamse Bos. Monday to Wednesday: learn the course for less

The first three days have the lowest published admission. Monday is a short day, with the first listed heats beginning at 16:05. Tuesday and Wednesday offer longer visits and several stages of competition, but the schedule is dominated by heats, quarterfinals and semifinals rather than medal ceremonies.

These days work for families, rowing clubs and visitors who want to see more crews without paying the weekend band. They are less suitable for someone whose only goal is a world-title race.

Thursday and Friday: the best balance for medal racing

Thursday has the first A finals, including para and lightweight events. Friday adds A finals in the women's and men's pair, doubles and PR3 mixed double sculls. The published adult ticket band is lower than Saturday and Sunday.

This is the strongest compromise for a visitor who wants medal races but does not need the headline weekend finals. It also avoids the earliest weekend opening time.

Saturday: fours, quads and the eights arrive

Saturday opens at 08:30. Its late-morning program includes A finals for PR1 single sculls, the men's and women's four, and the men's and women's quadruple sculls. The afternoon brings semifinals in the single sculls and heats for the eights.

Choose Saturday when those boat classes matter or when one weekend day is easier than Sunday. Do not assume every race is a final simply because it is finals weekend.

Sunday: the clearest one-day championship choice

Sunday includes the men's and women's eight, single sculls, mixed double sculls and mixed eight A finals. The current schedule places the last listed A final at 14:49.

This is the simplest choice for a first-time visitor who wants the strongest concentration of title races. It is also likely to place the most pressure on grandstand inventory and public transport. Buy only through the organizer's ticket shop or a reseller named by the organizer.

Venue-only or grandstand ticket?

A venue-only ticket gets you into the event grounds but not the grandstand. A grandstand ticket includes both. The decision is about how you want to watch, not merely the price difference.

The organizer says grandstand seats are assigned later on a first-come, first-served basis. Orders placed separately are not guaranteed to sit together. Put one group in one order when adjacent seats matter.

Adult tickets start at age 13. Kids tickets cover ages 5 to 12. The organizer also says children up to age 5 enter free but must sit on an adult's lap in the grandstand. That wording overlaps at age 5. Ask the ticket team before booking for a child who will be exactly 5 on the visit date.

Tickets are personalized and can be shown digitally or printed. The organizer does not offer refunds. A date or ticket-type change may be possible in the My Order account when inventory allows.

How to reach Bosbaan without losing the first race

From central Amsterdam

Use the official Event and Go transport portal for the visit date, then check the route again in 9292 or the operator app. The portal identifies metro station Amstelveenseweg as a practical arrival point with an approximately 15-minute walk to the entrance.

Do not plan from a generic Amsterdamse Bos map pin. Save the event entrance and the public-transport stop shown for your date. The park is large enough for the wrong pin to add an avoidable walk.

Arriving from Schiphol for the event

The rail station is below Schiphol Plaza. Use the NS journey planner for a train toward Amsterdam Zuid or another connection selected for the live route, then transfer using the official event portal. Schiphol's own guidance confirms that trains are the normal airport-to-Amsterdam option, but engineering work and event-week changes can alter the best connection.

Do not schedule a race you care about close to flight arrival. Passport control, bags, the train platform, a local transfer and the walk to the gate all need margin.

By bicycle

The event transport portal calls cycling the preferred option and says the entrance has free space for more than 4,000 bicycles. Use the signed event parking rather than locking a bicycle to a random fence or leaving it on an access route.

By car

There is no visitor parking at Bosbaan. The organizer does not sell parking tickets itself. Its transport portal offers linked parking options by date, and the City of Amsterdam directs drivers toward parking at RAI before continuing by public transport.

Reserve before departure if driving is unavoidable. The Hockey World Cup runs at nearby Wagener Stadium through August 30, so two international events are using the Amsterdamse Bos area at the same time. A normal weekend driving estimate is not enough.

Entry rules that change what you should pack

Bosbaan does not use a vague small-bag rule. The current house rules set a maximum of A4 size and 10 centimeters thick. Security may inspect bags and coats. Refusing a search can mean refused entry.

Bring:

• the personalized ticket, saved offline or printed;
• a small power bank and short cable;
• an empty refillable water bottle;
• sunscreen in an allowed aerosol or non-aerosol container;
• a rain jacket with a hood, not an umbrella;
• a compact camera, GoPro or phone for personal use; and
• binoculars that fit inside the permitted bag.

Do not bring outside food or drinks, glass, cans, filled plastic bottles, coolers, umbrellas, folding chairs, stools, selfie sticks, professional camera equipment, drones or pets other than assistance dogs. Prohibited items are discarded rather than stored.

The event has no re-entry. Once you leave, you cannot return on the same ticket. Eat before joining the entrance queue if that helps, but finish outside food and drinks before security. Keep medication in its original packaging and contact the organizer in advance if a medical item conflicts with the published rules.

How to watch rowing when you are new to the sport

A 2,000-meter course creates a different problem from a stadium sport: one fixed position may not show the full race clearly. Decide whether the start, middle or finish matters most, then accept that the screen and live results will fill some gaps.

Before the race:

1. Note the event name, scheduled time, lane and country.
2. Learn the country's blade pattern or crew colors.
3. Open the official schedule and results page before the start.
4. Use binoculars for the far end rather than expecting phone zoom to solve the distance.
5. Leave enough time between races for food, toilets and moving position.

Public spectator discussions repeat two practical points: race times can move, and identifying the right crew is harder than expected. Saving only a screenshot of the full weekly timetable is not enough. Keep the current event number and lane where you can reach them quickly.

The program has long breaks between some race blocks. Use those gaps for food and the event site rather than holding one place all day unless the ticket or staff instructions require it.

Weather and uncovered seating

The grandstand is not covered. Umbrellas are prohibited. A hooded waterproof layer is therefore more useful than an umbrella, even when the morning forecast looks settled.

Rowing can continue in ordinary rain. Wind, lightning or unsafe water conditions can delay or change racing, and the official schedule is already marked provisional. The ticket shop sells a limited accessible ticket that automatically includes one companion. It grants venue access but not grandstand access. At the time of this review, the organizer said it was still exploring whether to build a wheelchair platform and would email ticket holders when more information was available.

The current terms say wheelchair-accessible toilets are present but do not guarantee sufficient space. That makes an advance contact important for visitors who need a confirmed viewing position, step-free route or specific toilet provision.

NS offers travel assistance at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam Zuid, Amsterdam Central and other stations. It should be requested through NS for the actual journey. Rail assistance does not confirm the final park path or event viewing area, so treat the train and venue as separate accessibility checks.
