AnimaWings has suspended its flights from October 2 through October 24, 2026. The Romanian airline says it plans to restart on October 25 with a revised schedule based on the aircraft available, but that is a plan rather than a guarantee for every booking after the suspension.

If you hold a ticket, open the reservation before doing anything else. Save the itinerary and messages, check the operating airline and booking reference, then wait for a confirmed cancellation unless your flight falls inside the published suspension window. Do not cancel the booking voluntarily just to get ahead of the queue. A voluntary cancellation can put the request under the fare rules instead of the protections that follow an airline cancellation.

The practical answer: flights dated October 2 to 24 are within AnimaWings' confirmed suspension. Flights from October 25 need a fresh check against the revised schedule. If the airline cancels, decide whether the trip still has value before choosing between a refund and rerouting. Keep a written record before paying for a replacement yourself.

What AnimaWings has confirmed

The airline's passenger information page was updated on October 1 at 5 p.m. It states that flights will be temporarily suspended from October 2 to 24 and that operations are intended to resume on October 25, the start of the winter aviation season, under a revised schedule.

That update replaces the airline's September 30 statement that it would keep operating as many flights as possible with two available Airbus A320 aircraft. AnimaWings says recurring technical problems reduced fleet availability and that it has started judicial reorganisation to protect continuity and restructure its obligations.

Judicial reorganisation is not the same as a notice that the airline has permanently stopped trading. It also does not make a future flight certain. The useful distinction for a passenger is simpler:

Travel dateCurrent positionWhat to check
October 2 to 24Flights are suspendedCancellation email, refund or rerouting offer, and the exact booking channel
From October 25Restart is planned under a revised scheduleWhether the exact flight remains in the booking and whether its time or route changed
Later winter datesSchedule is being recalibratedDirect notification, My Booking and the operating carrier close to departure

The airline says cancellations are being processed gradually in travel-date order. Affected travelers should receive confirmation at the email address attached to the booking. It asks passengers not to send the same request through several channels because duplicate cases can slow processing.

Check the booking before contacting support

Start with the reservation in My Booking and the most recent email. A generic news story cannot show whether a particular ticket has been refunded, moved or issued by another company.

Record these details in one note:

  • flight number, date and route;
  • booking reference and ticket number;
  • the company named as operating carrier;
  • whether the purchase was direct, through an online agent or inside a package holiday;
  • every cancellation or schedule-change message;
  • the airline's current offer and its deadline; and
  • any fixed hotel, connection, event or separate ticket affected by the change.

Take screenshots while the booking is accessible. Download the original itinerary and payment confirmation. If the flight is shown as cancelled, save that page before accepting a refund or a new itinerary.

AnimaWings lists a claims form and current contact routes on its contact page. Use one case where possible and keep the case number. If departure is close and the written channel has not produced an answer, a phone call can help, but follow it with a short written summary of what was offered.

Refund or rerouting is the first decision

For a cancellation covered by current EU passenger rules, the operating airline must offer a choice between reimbursement, rerouting at the earliest opportunity, or rerouting at a later date under comparable conditions, subject to availability. These are alternatives, not benefits to collect together.

A refund can be the cleanest choice when the trip no longer serves its purpose or when another part of the journey can also be cancelled without a loss. It can be the wrong reflex when replacement tickets have become much more expensive and the traveler still needs to arrive.

Ask for rerouting when the destination and timing still matter. Give the airline a reasonable chance to provide it before buying a substitute. If the airline refuses or cannot offer a workable route, ask for that position in writing. Save a screenshot of reasonable alternatives and their prices at the time. Reimbursement of a self-booked alternative can become disputed, so written evidence matters.

Do not click a full-booking refund without checking what it removes. A return flight or another segment on the same reservation may be cancelled with it. Ask the airline or ticket issuer to state the effect on the rest of the itinerary.

AnimaWings' own cancellation page says airline-cancelled bookings can receive a refund when no alternative is available and directs customers who bought through an aggregator or travel agency to that partner. The EU passenger-rights guide remains the better source for the legal choice between refund and rerouting.

Bookings made through an agent or holiday organiser

An agent booking adds a communication layer. The airline may direct the refund request to the company that took payment, while the agent may say it needs airline approval. Send the same concise record to both, but do not create several inconsistent requests.

Ask four direct questions:

  1. Has the operating airline formally cancelled the flight?
  2. Is the issuer offering a refund, rerouting or both as a choice?
  3. Does accepting the option remove any return or connecting segment?
  4. Which company will send the money, and to which payment method?

A package holiday needs a separate conversation with the organiser. The flight may be replaced while the hotel and trip remain active. Do not cancel the accommodation independently until the organiser explains the package solution and the cost consequences.

If a booking contains two reservation numbers or separately issued tickets, treat them as potentially unprotected connections. A cancellation on the first ticket does not automatically force the second airline to refund a valid flight. Contact the second carrier before it records a no-show, and check travel-insurance terms for missed departure or travel disruption.

EU care and possible compensation

Refund or rerouting is separate from care and cash compensation.

When a traveler is waiting for rerouting after a qualifying cancellation, EU rules can require reasonable meals, refreshments, accommodation when an overnight stay is necessary, and transport between the airport and accommodation. Ask the airline to arrange the service first. If it does not, keep itemised receipts and choose necessary, proportionate options.

Cash compensation depends on the route, notification time and cause. The EU guidance says compensation may apply when a passenger is informed less than 14 days before departure, unless the airline proves an exception. It also says most technical problems found during maintenance or caused by a failure to maintain an aircraft are not extraordinary circumstances.

That does not establish compensation for every AnimaWings cancellation. The airline must explain the cause for the particular flight, and judicial reorganisation, fleet availability and technical events can involve different facts. Keep the cancellation notice and submit the claim after the immediate travel decision is settled.

If the airline does not answer satisfactorily, Romania's National Authority for Consumer Protection publishes the complaint route for Regulation 261 cases. The European Commission also keeps the current list of national enforcement bodies. Usually the relevant authority is in the country where the incident took place. Start with the airline and retain proof of the submission.

Flights from October 25 still need confirmation

October 25 is the intended restart date, not a promise that the old timetable will return unchanged. AnimaWings says the schedule will be revised around aircraft that are actually available.

For a flight from October 25 onward:

  • keep the booking unless the airline changes it or the fare provides a better voluntary option;
  • verify the flight number and time in My Booking;
  • check whether a connection still works after a time change;
  • make sure the airline and agent both have the traveler's current email and phone number;
  • avoid non-refundable replacement arrangements until the flight status is clear; and
  • check again before leaving for the airport.

The airline's public timetable warns that displayed schedules are informational and can differ from the actual operating plan. The issued booking and direct notification are more useful than a static route calendar.

If arrival is tied to a cruise, tour, medical appointment or separate long-haul flight, set a personal decision time. Compare the cost of waiting with the cost and refund conditions of one realistic alternative. A flexible backup can be sensible. Several non-refundable backups usually create a second problem.

Protect the rest of the trip

A flight cancellation can affect expenses that sit outside the airline ticket. Contact hotels, car-rental companies and event organisers before their change deadlines. Explain that the operating flight has been suspended and ask for a written exception or date move.

Travel insurance may cover some unrecoverable costs, but only under the policy wording. Ask the insurer what evidence it needs before accepting an airline refund or buying a replacement. Typical records include the original booking, cancellation notice, airline offer, receipts and proof that suppliers declined refunds.

A card dispute is not the first step when the merchant is already processing a legitimate refund or rerouting request. If the promised service is not supplied and the normal claim route fails, ask the card issuer what its time limits and evidence rules require. Do not submit inconsistent claims to the airline, agent, insurer and bank for the same loss.

Keep essential records offline. Airport Wi-Fi, email access and booking apps can all fail at the moment they are most useful.

Mobile data for replacement travel in Romania

A working data connection can help with My Booking, a new boarding pass, railway or coach alternatives, hotel messages and payment confirmation. It does not change the airline's duties or guarantee that a replacement journey is available.

OpenSim's live Romania catalog returned 15 plans when checked on October 6. One listed option provided 10 GB for 30 days at US$8.56, supported top-up and named Orange 5G plus Vodafone 4G in its public coverage details. Prices, packages and network information can change, so the Romania OpenSim page remains the authority at checkout.

Choose the product by the replacement route, not the cancelled flight. A Romania-only plan can fit a domestic wait or overland journey inside Romania. A traveler rerouted through another country may need a European plan instead. Check the exact countries, allowance, validity, speed policy, hotspot support and top-up field on the selected package.

Install on stable Wi-Fi before travel, save the QR code and setup instructions offline, and keep the usual SIM available if the airline or bank sends verification texts to that number. An eSIM provides mobile data where the selected plan has coverage. It does not include voice calls unless the product explicitly says so and does not protect a missed connection.

Ten questions about the AnimaWings suspension

Are all AnimaWings flights cancelled from October 2 to 24?

The airline says its flights are temporarily suspended throughout that period. Check the individual booking for the cancellation record and the option offered before taking action.

Will AnimaWings fly again on October 25?

The airline intends to resume on October 25 under a revised schedule. That does not confirm every previously sold flight. Verify the exact flight number, time and operating status in the booking.

Should I cancel the booking myself?

Usually not merely because of the news. A voluntary cancellation can follow the fare conditions. Let the airline record the cancellation unless a flexible-fare option clearly serves the trip better.

Can I choose rerouting instead of a refund?

For a qualifying airline cancellation under EU rules, the choice includes reimbursement or rerouting. Ask for rerouting in writing if the journey still matters, and do not accept a refund automatically when replacement fares are higher.

What if I bought the ticket through an online travel agent?

Contact the ticket issuer and the operating airline with the same booking record. AnimaWings directs agency-purchased refund requests to the partner, but the communication channel should not obscure the passenger's cancellation choices.

What happens to the return flight on the same booking?

It depends on the option accepted and how the ticket was issued. Before choosing a refund, ask whether it removes only the cancelled sector or the full itinerary. Get the answer in writing.

Can I claim EU cash compensation?

Possibly, but not automatically. Notification timing, route and the proven cause matter. Keep the cancellation notice and ask the operating airline for its decision after resolving the immediate refund or rerouting need.

Must the airline pay for meals or a hotel?

Care may be due while a passenger waits for qualifying rerouting. Ask the airline to arrange it first, then keep itemised receipts for necessary and reasonable spending if help is not provided.

Where can I complain if AnimaWings does not resolve the case?

Submit one documented claim to the airline first. If the response is missing or inadequate, use the competent national enforcement route. Romania's ANPC publishes its air-passenger complaint process.

Is a Romania eSIM useful during the disruption?

It can provide a separate data connection for booking changes, ground transport and accommodation messages inside Romania. Check device compatibility and the selected plan's current coverage before purchase, and keep travel documents offline as well.

Before the revised schedule begins

  • Check My Booking and the email linked to the reservation.
  • Save the original ticket, cancellation notice and payment record.
  • Decide whether the trip needs rerouting or no longer has value.
  • Ask what happens to every segment before accepting a refund.
  • Contact the agent or organiser when it issued the ticket or package.
  • Protect separate hotels, connections and events before their deadlines.
  • Keep reasonable replacement options and prices as evidence.
  • Use one support case and retain its number.
  • Recheck flights from October 25 against the revised schedule.
  • Store the itinerary, claims and setup information offline.

The immediate task is not to predict the airline's recovery. It is to identify the status of one booking, choose refund or rerouting deliberately, and preserve the evidence needed for any later claim.
