Tuscany strike October 14: trains, Uffizi and airport transfers
Tuscany's regional general strike on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 includes railway action from 09:01 to 17:00 local time. Check your specific train before traveling to Florence or elsewhere in the region. The Uffizi separately guarantees its main gallery will open from 13:30 to 18:30, with last admission at 17:30.
The Italian Transport Ministry's strike register excludes aviation and GEST, Florence's tram operator, from this action. That does not guarantee an on-time flight or every connecting service. It means those exclusions should not be turned into a claim that all transport stops.
If you have a timed museum booking, a train connection or a flight that day, check each booking separately before paying to change it.

What is confirmed for October 14?
| Part of your trip | Confirmed information | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Railway travel in Tuscany | Strike window is 09:01 to 17:00 | Operator, date, train number and full journey |
| Local public transport | Ministry lists four hours, with varying arrangements | Your bus operator's dated notice |
| Flights | Aviation is excluded from this action | Flight status and the journey to the airport |
| Florence tram | GEST staff are excluded from this action | Current T1 or T2 service notices |
| Uffizi main gallery | Guaranteed opening 13:30 to 18:30 | Your entry slot; last admission is 17:30 |
| Boboli Gardens | Uffizi guarantees all-day opening | Current garden hours, last admission and weather notices |
The museum details come from the Uffizi's October 14 notice, which warns of possible closures and disruption. Last admission is one hour before closing for both circuits. It does not give the same guarantee for every site in the Uffizi Galleries group. Check a Pitti Palace booking directly rather than assume the afternoon hours apply there.
Can a Rome to Florence train be affected?
A departure outside Tuscany does not establish that a train is unaffected. RFI's current station announcement names both Gruppo FS Italiane and Italo staff in Tuscany and warns of possible delays or changes during the rail window.
Equally, a strike announcement is not a list of cancelled trains. An available fare in a booking engine is not a service guarantee either. Keep the train number from your ticket and check that exact service with its operator.
For Trenitalia, use the official guaranteed-train guidance. For Italo, use Italo In Viaggio and its assistance channels. A Trenitalia list cannot confirm an Italo service.
For a Florence to Rome, Venice or Milan journey, check the full route. Your boarding station may be an intermediate stop rather than the origin shown in a list. Match the train number and date, then confirm the stop you need.
How do guaranteed trains and protected hours work?
Trenitalia publishes specific long-distance guaranteed services and separate regional lists. Its Tuscany regional page gives weekday minimum-service periods of 06:00 to 09:00 and 18:00 to 21:00, identifying services by train number and actual departure time.
Those periods do not mean every departure is guaranteed. Use the weekday list and current notice. October 14 is a Wednesday; a Sunday list or a PDF for a previous strike is not enough.
Trenitalia says a train already traveling when a strike starts reaches its final destination if that is reachable within one hour. Otherwise it may stop earlier. A departure before 09:01 is therefore not an unconditional promise that a long journey will finish. Ask how the notice applies to your service.
For an expensive or difficult-to-replace onward booking, consider an earlier journey or an overnight stay near the airport. Compare that cost with the actual disruption information before buying a second ticket.
What if you have a morning Uffizi ticket?
The afternoon guarantee does not confirm that a morning slot will be honored. Contact the official seller or booking provider with your date, time and reference. Ask whether the reservation remains valid, moves to another slot or qualifies for another remedy.
Avoid planning to arrive exactly at last admission. An hour inside may not suit the visit you intended. If your itinerary allows it, ask about another day rather than rush between a changed train and the final entry time.
Boboli offers another possibility, but check its closing time and weather notices. A strike-day opening statement does not override a separate weather closure. Families can keep meals and a nearby outdoor stop flexible; our Italy with kids guide covers broader age-specific planning.
Airport transfers need their own check
For Florence Airport, separate the flight from the city transfer. GEST's T2 connects the airport with Florence, and its staff are excluded from the October 14 action. Check its current notice anyway, particularly if a bus or train is needed to reach the tram.
A different GEST strike is announced for Saturday, October 10. Its October 2 notice warns of possible T1 and T2 delays or cancellations, with guaranteed periods of 06:30 to 09:30 and 17:00 to 20:00. Keep the dates separate when checking an arrival and departure in the same week.
For Pisa Airport, check every leg. A flight, airport shuttle and Pisa to Florence train are separate services. Confirmation that the flight operates says nothing about the rail connection. If choosing a coach or private transfer, confirm the departure, pickup point, luggage space and booking conditions first.
Do not wait at the station until no realistic route to a separately booked flight remains. Tell your airline or booking provider about the situation, but do not assume rail disruption automatically allows a free flight change.
What can you do if a train is cancelled?
Start with the operator or seller that issued your ticket. Explain whether you still need to travel, what connection is at risk and whether you want a refund or replacement journey. Keep the ticket, cancellation message, booking reference and receipts.
Your Europe's rail passenger-rights guidance explains refund and rerouting choices for a cancellation expected to delay arrival by more than 60 minutes, where the rules apply. Some domestic or regional services have exemptions. It also describes limited circumstances for arranging alternative public transport after 100 minutes without rerouting information. That is not blanket permission to book an expensive taxi and expect reimbursement.
A ticket's ordinary no-refund rule and the response to a cancellation are different questions. Ask for the disruption options before buying a replacement. For several tickets, ask whether they form a protected through-ticket; separately purchased connections may have different conditions.
Keep live updates available, with an offline backup
Bookmark the service information from your railway, museum and local transport operator. Save tickets, your accommodation address and a backup route offline. Keep a power bank available if your tickets are on your phone.
If your home allowance includes enough Italian roaming data, you may not need another plan. Otherwise, OpenSim's Italy plans provide a separate trip allowance for checking changes and contacting your group. The advantage over relying entirely on station Wi-Fi is being able to check the operator while moving between the station, accommodation and a replacement departure, subject to mobile coverage.
For a trip beyond Italy, OpenSim Europe plans can cover a multi-country route; verify every stop and the selected plan's terms. Mobile data cannot prevent a cancellation or guarantee a connection. It helps you see the notice and act on it.
Use the travel-data calculator, phone compatibility guide and installation timing guide before purchasing.
Our October 2 Italy strike guide covers a different, now-past national action. Its 11:00 to 14:00 window does not apply to October 14. Keep the date on every notice you save.

We will update this page for a withdrawal, revised hours, new operator arrangements or changed museum openings, and record the outcome after October 14. Recheck your operator and booking provider shortly before traveling.
