Boomtown Fair 2026 guide: map, camping and travel

Boomtown Chapter Five runs from Wednesday, August 12 to Sunday, August 16, 2026 at Matterley Estate near Winchester. It is sold out, the official Citizen-to-Citizen resale is open, and the redesigned 2026 map is now live in the Boomtown app.

The first decision is not which stage to see. It is how the ticket, transport, entrance gate and camp fit together. A Public Transport ticket is invalid if its holder arrives by car. Drop-offs use West Gate. Camp Skylark and the original Camp Orchid use South Gate. General campers arriving by car are routed toward the main parking and East Gate. Getting one part wrong can leave you carrying camping equipment across a very large site.

This guide was checked against Boomtown's current information, travel, camping, ticket, terms, accessibility and essential-guide pages on August 2, 2026. The organizer can still change routes, prohibited items and operations before the gates open. Check the official app and travel page again on the day you leave.

Boomtown Fair 2026 at a glance

The app advertises 12 main stages and more than 50 smaller venues. There is no single arena that contains the whole programme. Camping areas and performance districts sit across the site, so every camp is close to some places and far from others.

Match your transport, gate and camp

Do not choose an entrance from the map and tell a driver to head there. Boomtown routes people according to their ticket, travel method, parking pass and accommodation.

The current essential guide says South Gate is only for Camp Skylark and the original Camp Orchid. Camp Orchid Downtown customers cannot collect wristbands there. General campers travelling with Skylark or Orchid residents may still need to walk to East Gate.

Near the site, drivers should stop following satnav and follow the event's colored routing signs. Parking and gate assignments can change with ground and traffic conditions. Print or download the routing pass before leaving reliable internet.

How to choose a camp from the new 2026 map

The map release triggered a rush of questions about Valley, Temple Valley, East and Downtown camping. Older campsite rankings are a poor shortcut because the layout has changed for 2026.

Use three checks instead:

1. Mark the gate you will actually enter.
2. Mark the two or three districts or stages that matter most to your group.
3. Choose a camping area that avoids one punishing arrival walk without pretending every evening route will be short.

Public camping is included with every festival ticket and is spread across the site. It is for tents only. Stewards keep access lanes clear for emergency and service vehicles, so a tent may need to move if it blocks a marked route.

The site is hilly and the farthest destination can still be a long walk. A camp close to one headline stage may be far from another. Current attendees discussing the new map also report that familiar campsite names do not mean the same route as last year. Use the 2026 map, not an old screenshot.

Paid camping areas need their own arrival plan

Camp Orchid Downtown is next to the public-transport entrance and is designed to reduce the carry from West Gate. Drivers use a dedicated parking and transfer arrangement rather than entering through South Gate.

The original Camp Orchid is in the southeast of the site and uses South Gate. Camp Skylark is split into Hilltop and Sunset for 2026, also with South Gate as the closest standard entrance. Public-transport arrivals for those areas can use the signed internal shuttle from the public-transport hub.

Accommodation teams send final arrival information about a week before the event. That email should override a general blog or social post.

Download the Boomtown app, then make your own backup

The official Boomtown app contains the 2026 map, programme and artist planning tools. Boomtown says the map and programme have some offline functionality because phone signal can be unreliable across a large festival site.

Do this while connected to dependable WiFi:

• install the app and open the current map;
• save the acts that matter and check for clashes;
• take screenshots of the camp, gate, medical points, information points and group meeting place;
• save the ticket, route pass and return booking outside the app;
• write the tent area and a recognizable nearby landmark in a plain note.

Users reported map freezes immediately after the 2026 release. That may improve before the event, but it is a good reason not to make one live app screen the only copy of the route.

Set times can change. Use the app for the live programme rather than a timetable copied into an article. Secret and smaller venue announcements are also part of the event, so an overfilled schedule can work against the point of being there.

Gate opening times and late arrival

Boomtown gates are not open all night.

There is no re-entry after 9:30pm. Car parks close to new arrivals at 9pm. If a delay makes the gate deadline impossible, do not assume security can make an exception. Contact the relevant travel provider and plan for the next valid entry window.

Wednesday requires a ticket that includes Wednesday entry. A Thursday ticket cannot be used a day early. A Wednesday ticket remains valid for a later first arrival, and a Thursday ticket can be used from Thursday onward.

The first four to six hours after Wednesday and Thursday opening are normally the busiest entry period. Arriving before the gate opens does not create a fast-track lane. Pack so the search is straightforward and keep the ticket and original ID accessible.

Winchester station shuttle and coach travel

Winchester is the closest main railway station, roughly three miles from Matterley Estate. Walking from the city is not recommended because the approach roads are unsuitable for pedestrians.

The wheelchair-accessible festival shuttle loops between Winchester station and West Gate. The current return fare is £23 plus booking fee in advance through Kaboodle or £25 by card at the station. Cash is not accepted.

The last Wednesday and Thursday shuttle leaves only an hour before the gate closes. A late train with a tight connection is a bad plan. Leave a buffer for platform changes, queues and luggage loading.

Coach and shuttle passengers may bring one bag or suitcase up to 20kg and 75 x 50 x 32cm, plus up to three pieces of camping equipment including a tent. Trolleys must be collapsible and fully folded before boarding. Rail and connecting coach operators may impose their own limits too.

National Express coaches serve the festival from more than 50 locations. Coach e-tickets are issued separately from festival tickets. Save both the outbound and Monday return documents offline.

Driving, parking, taxi and cycling

Advance car-parking sales close on August 6. Vehicle registration details must be added to the Kaboodle booking by August 9. A missing registration or route pass can create an extra charge and a slower gate process.

As the car approaches the final three miles, follow Boomtown's signs instead of satnav. The traffic team may direct vehicles along a route that looks wrong on the phone but keeps arrival flows separate.

Taxi and private drop-off use the signed zone outside West Gate. Pre-book a licensed vehicle, check its licence plate and driver badge, and do not arrange a roadside drop on the A roads around the estate.

Cyclists follow the red route to East Gate, where monitored but unsecured cycle parking is provided. National Cycle Network Route 23 passes near the site. Bring a lock and accept that the event does not describe this parking as secure.

Packing rules that matter at the search lane

Everyone is searched on arrival. Gate lanes are 900mm wide, so an oversized trolley that cannot pass through the lane may be refused. Pack light enough that one person can control the load.

The current prohibited list includes:

• glass bottles, spirits and open drink containers;
• knives, weapons, fireworks, flares and explosives;
• BBQs, smoke or gas canisters, generators and candles;
• sound systems, two-way radios, laser devices and unofficial drones;
• e-scooters, gazebos and unofficial high-visibility clothing.

Boomtown may restrict cooking stoves during prolonged hot or dry conditions. Check the official list again just before departure instead of relying on an older packing video.

For ordinary festival tickets, the current personal alcohol limit is one of the following: 16 cans of beer, lager or cider at 440ml; 18 cans of premixed spirits at 250ml; one three-litre box of wine; or seven litres of beer, lager or cider in sealed plastic bottles or cans. Spirits and glass are not allowed. Alcohol can only enter on the first admission, not on re-entry.

Bring a refillable bottle, sun protection, a waterproof layer, sturdy shoes and warm clothing for the walk back to camp. The official guide tells visitors to bring food and water provisions, and water points are marked on the map.

Carry prescription medicine in its labeled container with the supporting document needed for the item. Anyone with an unusual medical product should follow the event's current medical and access guidance before reaching security.

Cashless wristband, top-ups and refunds

Boomtown is cashless. Food, drinks and merchandise are paid through the RFID chip in the festival wristband. The closed-loop pay points do not need WiFi or a bank connection for each purchase.

Create the cashless account before arrival with the 13-digit code on the ticket. After wristband collection, the six-digit code on the chip can also be used to pair the account. Visitors can top up in the app, at dedicated WiFi top-up zones, at a top-up bank, at unmanned machines or at campsite hubs by card.

A refund is not automatic. After the festival, request the remaining balance within the two-week refund window. Boomtown says the money should reach the account within seven to ten days after the request. Balances below 50p cannot be refunded and are donated to local charity partners.

Take a clear photo of the wristband code after collection. Do not post that photo publicly.

Accessibility, welfare and staying with your group

The July 1 accessibility-request deadline has passed. Approved visitors should follow the personalized arrival and access guides sent by Boomtown. The site lists wide-access toilets, an accessible campsite, viewing platforms that require prior approval, medication refrigeration, charging for medical equipment, BSL support and a Changing Places facility.

Walking distances matter. Boomtown says the route from the Camp Skylark car park to the Sunset box office is about 1,500 metres. Approved customers with limited mobility may have a different West Gate and shuttle plan, but that must be arranged with the access team.

There are two 24-hour medical centers, one by Pepperpot Market and another on Hilltop. Welfare and a low-stimulation sensory space are also available. Mark them on the map before they are needed.

Phone signal can change from one district to another and become slow when a large crowd gathers. Agree on a physical meeting point and a time. A message saying "meet by the entrance" is not specific enough on this site.

Plan Monday before the first set

Everyone must leave by midday on Monday, August 17. Most vehicle traffic leaves between 10am and noon, so queues build at the obvious time. Boomtown asks drivers to follow exit signs even when they conflict with satnav because the signed route separates traffic from other gates.

Monday station shuttles run from 6:30am to 4pm. Keep the return shuttle ticket, rail booking and station platform information available offline. Pack most of the camp on Sunday afternoon if weather allows, then leave only the sleeping gear and morning essentials for Monday.

Do not drive until the driver is rested and legally fit. A longer wait is better than leaving exhausted or impaired.

Set up the Boomtown app and travel tools

Set these up before travel:

• Boomtown app for the current map, programme and event notices;
• National Rail or the booked train operator for live rail changes;
• National Express if the journey uses the official coach;
• Met Office for the current Winchester forecast;
• Google Maps or Apple Maps with Winchester, the station and accommodation saved offline;
• the banking app needed to monitor cashless top-ups and the later refund.

Keep the phone in a closed front pocket or secured bag. Carry a charged power bank and cable, and separate the physical bank card from the phone. The power-bank flight guide covers cabin rules if you are flying into the United Kingdom.

International visitors can use a United Kingdom Roaming eSIM for airport arrival, rail changes, the cashless account, maps and messages outside the busiest parts of the festival. It cannot add capacity to a congested local cell site. Screenshots, a meeting point and offline directions still matter.

Install the Roaming eSIM before leaving home and follow the package instructions for choosing the data line. Boomtown planning questions answered

Which camp is best at Boomtown 2026?

There is no single best camp. Use the 2026 app map to balance the entrance gate, the districts your group expects to visit most and the arrival carry. Every area leaves at least one long walk.

Can I drive with a Public Transport ticket?

No. Boomtown says a Coach or Shuttle Public Transport Entry ticket must be validated through the booked public-transport method. It is not valid for entry when the holder arrives by car.

Can I choose West Gate because it is closer to my camp?

Not usually. West Gate serves coaches, the Winchester shuttle, taxis, drop-offs, the public-transport hub and specific access arrangements. Drivers follow the route assigned to their parking or accommodation pass.

What happens if I arrive after 9:30pm?

The gate is closed to entry and re-entry after 9:30pm. Plan to use the next valid opening window rather than expecting an exception. Car parks stop admitting arrivals at 9pm.

Can I stay in Winchester and commute every day?

Do not rely on the station shuttle as a daily hotel bus. Its published timetable is designed for festival arrivals and departures, with the final Sunday return at 12:30am and no comparable late-night return listed for Wednesday through Saturday.

Where should I buy a resale ticket?

Use Boomtown's Citizen-to-Citizen resale through Kaboodle. Availability changes as sellers list tickets. Avoid screenshots and unofficial transfers that leave the ticket in another person's name.

Does the ticket name need to match my ID?

Yes. The ticket name must match an accepted original photo ID. Kaboodle allows one name change per ticket through the booking account, currently with a £20 fee. Chosen-name cases have a separate support process.

Will the Boomtown map work without signal?

Boomtown says the app has some offline functionality for the map and programme. Open it before arrival and keep screenshots because an app update, freeze or flat battery can still remove access.

Does the cashless wristband need mobile data for purchases?

No. The RFID payment system runs in a closed loop without WiFi or a bank connection at each pay point. Mobile data is useful for app top-ups and account checks, but onsite card top-up options also exist.

What should I save offline?

Save the festival ticket, valid route pass, coach or shuttle booking, return ticket, 2026 map, programme, cashless account details, camp location, meeting point and Monday plan.
