Children cross the Brunei River, see homes, schools and services built above the water, then use the gallery to understand how the settlement works. Ages five and older can connect the boat ride to the exhibits. Allow two to three hours, including waiting, boarding and a slow walk.

Raised jetties, steps and narrow paths make a carrier more practical than a stroller. Ask the boat operator for a correctly sized life jacket for every child before boarding, keep children seated, and check the drop-off surface. Confirm toilets, drinking water, shade, seats and changing facilities at the gallery rather than assuming the village provides them at every landing.

Arrange the route and fare before departure. Choose a licensed or accommodation-recommended operator for a longer wildlife cruise. Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque

Children compare the mosque's golden dome, lagoon, ceremonial barge and geometric details. Ages six and older can manage a short, quiet visit when expectations are explained first. Allow 45 to 60 minutes and treat the exterior lagoon as a separate part of the stop.

The surrounding paths are easier than a forest trail, but interior thresholds, shoe storage and visitor routes need direct confirmation. Ask about step-free entry, toilets, seating and where to leave a stroller. Food and changing facilities should be planned elsewhere.

This is an active place of worship. Non-Muslim visitor access can pause around prayers, religious events and Friday observance. Dress modestly, keep voices low and follow instructions about shoes and photography. Tasek Lama Park

Children can choose a short waterfall or nature walk instead of committing to a long hike. School-age children may enjoy spotting plants, birds and macaques; younger children need close supervision around animals and water. Allow 60 to 120 minutes and turn back before heat or thunder builds.

Main recreational areas and longer trails are not the same accessibility problem. Ask which route has the firmest surface, least gradient, toilets, seating, shade and safe pickup point. A stroller may work on a short paved approach but not on forest steps. Carry water and do not feed macaques.

No advance ticket is normally the point of this stop, but a current weather check matters more than a booking. Heavy rain can make paths slippery and sudden thunderstorms can remove the value of an exposed lookout. Visit early and use the museum as the weather alternative.

Gadong and Muara: a mosque, supplies and a beach

Gadong works for meals, supermarkets and an evening market. Pair its mosque with one nearby meal rather than commuting back and forth. Muara is a separate half-day by road and needs confirmed return transport.

Jame Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque

Children see 29 domes, mosaic work, fountains and formal gardens in a setting that looks and feels different from the central mosque. Ages seven and older are the best fit for a quiet interior visit. Allow 45 to 60 minutes and stop before attention turns into correction.

Ask about the current visitor entrance, step-free route, shoe storage, toilets, seats and stroller position. The grounds are open to sun and rain, while the interior is not a cooling room available at any time. Plan food and changing elsewhere in Gadong.

Muara Beach

Children can use the sand and playground while adults keep the visit deliberately simple. All ages can enjoy a two-to-three-hour morning or late-afternoon stop. This is a picnic and movement break, not a promise of calm water or lifeguarded swimming.

Brunei Tourism lists washrooms, kiosks and a children's playground, with food stalls operating on weekends. Confirm what is open on the planned day and bring shade, water and a change of clothes. Ask about step-free access from the parking area; sand itself is not wheelchair or stroller friendly.

No attraction booking is normally needed, but the return ride should be arranged. Check the Brunei WX forecast for thunderstorms, strong wind and marine warnings. Supervise at the waterline and do not infer swimming conditions from a clear sky or a social photo.

Temburong: make the rainforest the whole day's job

The Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Bridge makes Temburong easier to reach by road, but the national park still involves operator logistics, river travel and physical effort. Do not attach a full canopy day to a late flight or a second major attraction.

Ulu Temburong National Park

Children travel into protected rainforest, transfer to a longboat where the operator's route requires it, walk forest paths and may climb the canopy structure. Fit children around seven and older are a reasonable starting point, but the operator's age, height, weather and ability rules take priority. Reserve the full day.

There is no stroller route to a canopy tower. Ask for the stair count, boat boarding method, child-size flotation equipment, toilet locations, lunch, drinking water, rest shelters and the shortest alternative walk. A child can learn from the river and forest without completing every climb.

Book through a current tourism operator and disclose ages, mobility, allergies and swimming confidence before paying. Heavy rain, high water, lightning and illness can change or cancel activities. Wildlife is not guaranteed, and the canopy should never be framed as a test a frightened child must finish.

Brunei Tourism describes Temburong as about a 30-minute drive across the bridge before onward local arrangements, not as a direct city-bus attraction. Belait: add Seria only when the route has space

Seria is a useful science-led counterpoint to the capital's royal and religious sites. It is not a sensible out-and-back add-on to a short Temburong itinerary. Give the Belait coast its own day or overnight.

Seria Energy Lab

Children use hands-on STEAM exhibits, an energy theme and the AquaLab rather than looking at static oil-industry objects for hours. Ages five and older can spend two to three hours productively. The attraction's own site says school-holiday periods may use different hours, so the family should verify the actual session.

The visitor page permits wheelchairs and other assistive devices, baby essentials and secured water bottles. It says food, open drinks and large luggage are not allowed in the exhibition hall. Ask about step-free circulation, accessible toilets, seating, lockers and changing space before the drive.

The centre currently lists Monday closure, a Friday midday break, final admission before closing and a 100-person comfortable capacity. Check hours, tickets, workshops and any school group before departure. Indoor status helps with rain, but it does not make a sold-out or closed session available.

Build a five, seven or ten-day Brunei route

These routes leave space for meals, naps, thunderstorms and slower mornings. Journey times are planning blocks, not promises; traffic, rain, boat conditions and child-restraint setup can change them.

Five days: Bandar, Gadong and Muara

• Day 1: Airport transfer, check-in and an easy lagoon walk. No boat tour after a long flight.
• Day 2: Royal Regalia Museum, long lunch and Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in a confirmed visitor period.
• Day 3: Kampong Ayer and its gallery in the morning, then a hotel rest. Use Gadong for dinner.
• Day 4: Early Tasek Lama walk, rest, then Jame Asr Mosque if the visitor window works.
• Day 5: Muara Beach or a rain fallback, followed by a protected airport transfer.

Seven days: add Temburong without rushing

Use the five-day capital structure, but move Muara earlier and keep one complete day for Ulu Temburong. The seventh day is not spare sightseeing capacity: it protects the Temburong day from unsuitable weather and prevents a late rainforest return from sitting beside the flight. Families with toddlers can replace the national park with a shorter Bangar or river-focused operator plan.

Ten days: add Seria and a recovery day

• Day 10: Return to Bandar with a flight buffer. Do not race from Seria to an international check-in.

Transport, child restraints and airport planning

From Brunei International Airport

DART offers airport transfers, including advance bookings through DART Credits, and currently uses the P2 car park for arrival pickups. Driver availability still applies. A hotel transfer or booked driver is the cleanest backup when a child seat, late arrival or multiple bags make an on-demand ride risky.

Allow roughly 20 to 30 minutes from the airport to central Bandar as an editorial planning window, then add traffic and loading time. Confirm the current meeting point with the operator. Buses, DART and rental cars

The Land Transport Department lists public buses at BND 1 per trip, generally operating from 6 am to 6 pm, with routes in Brunei-Muara, Belait and an inter-district Seria-to-Bandar service. Some tourism pages state an 8 pm finish, so use the government transport page as the conservative planning source and verify locally. A low fare is not useful if a missed connection strands a tired child.

DART Car takes up to four passengers and DART XL up to six. DART Around can be booked by the hour with advance notice. None of that confirms a suitable child restraint. A rental car is useful for families who can legally drive, install their own seat and accept left-side driving. For Temburong or a long Belait day, a booked driver can reduce navigation and parking work.

Brunei child-restraint rules

Brunei's Land Transport Department says children under three must be secured in a government-approved car seat. The Road Traffic (Seat Belts for Children) Regulations define a child as someone under 12 and require a child to use a seat belt or child restraint in covered vehicles, with listed exceptions. These rules are a legal floor, not a fit guide.

Use an age- and size-appropriate rear restraint with a working belt or approved anchor. Ask a rental company or driver for the exact model and a photo before travel. A reply that the vehicle has "seat belts" does not confirm an infant seat, booster or correct installation.
