DESIGNART TOKYO 2026: KK tickets and a city exhibition plan

DESIGNART TOKYO runs from October 30 to November 8, 2026, but AUTOBAHN, its main venue on the former KK expressway, runs only through November 3. If the elevated-road exhibition is your reason for visiting, plan for the first five days. For a later visit, choose from the participating city exhibitions and check each one's dates and hours.
The tenth edition takes the theme *Hibiki*. It brings design and art into venues across Tokyo rather than putting everything in a single exhibition hall. Furniture, materials, sound installations and small creative spaces can all be part of a visit.
Choose what you want to see, then group it geographically. Trying to include every festival area in one day would leave too much of the day to stations and pavements.
Choose your dates before buying an AUTOBAHN ticket
There are two different visiting windows:
| Part of the festival | Published dates | What that means for a visitor |
|---|---|---|
| Wider DESIGNART TOKYO programme | October 30-November 8 | Individual venues have their own schedules |
| AUTOBAHN main venue on the KK Line | October 30-November 3 | Do not plan this exhibition for the final weekend |
| Hibiya Okuroji information centre | October 30-November 8 | A useful festival stop after the main venue finishes |
The organizer's festival outline lists the KK location between the Ginza Sukiyabashi Intersection and Tokyo Kotsu Kaikan area, and Hibiya Okuroji at 1-7-1 Uchisaiwaicho, Chiyoda-ku. They are different locations, not two names for one exhibition entrance.
An information centre's dates do not establish that every nearby exhibition stays open for the same hours. Save the individual listing for each stop you intend to make.
AUTOBAHN tickets: one day or the five-day pass?
The organizer's ticket announcement gives these tax-inclusive prices:
| Main-venue ticket | Advance | Same-day |
|---|---|---|
| Adult, one day | JPY3,000 | JPY3,500 |
| Student, one day | JPY1,000 | JPY1,500 |
| Five-day pass | JPY5,000 | JPY6,000 |
| Opening party | JPY2,000 | JPY2,000 |
Buy through the official ArtSticker link, checking the selected product, date, eligibility and final total. The party is listed separately; do not assume ordinary daytime admission includes it.
At the published advance rates, two adult day tickets total JPY6,000, compared with JPY5,000 for the pass. That comparison matters only if you will return during the main venue's five-day run. It is not a pass for ten days of citywide activities.
Read the current purchase terms for cancellation, re-entry, accompanying children and any timed-admission requirement. Do not infer those rules from the words "one day" or "pass" alone.
What is different about the former expressway venue?
The main site combines exhibitions with the AUTOBAHN design store, a park-and-cafe area and talks. Its setting is a former road in the Ginza and Yurakucho area rather than a conventional gallery. The organizer names ALTEMY as the architectural design studio shaping the venue.
For a concrete example, HAKUTEN's October 14 announcement for SALVAGED WORKS places its work in Exhibition Area 2. Its pieces include a folding screen made with rush weaving and a pendant light that reinterprets forms used in traditional lantern-making. Someone interested in how everyday objects are made has a reason to stop here beyond taking a photograph of the road.
Treat the exhibition and the design store as different parts of your budget. An admission ticket is not credit toward an object. If you want to buy something, ask the seller about availability, payment, packing and shipping before committing, especially for a large or fragile piece.
Hibiya Okuroji: two exhibitions with different opening times
You can make a separate visit around Hibiya Okuroji's exhibition spaces. Two current official listings illustrate why the individual page matters:
| Exhibition | Published dates and hours | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| &MEDICAL: MALLOW COLLECTION 2026 | October 30-November 8, 10:00-19:00 | Furniture and material experiments around the MALLOW balance-ball form; H05 |
| Youtaro Sakamoto: Schattenrequisit: Column | October 30-November 8, 11:00-19:00 | A thread-built column whose movement changes its outline and shadows |
Both listings give 1-7-1 Uchisaiwaicho, but they do not start at the same hour. If these are your two priorities, plan for the overlap rather than arriving early and expecting every door to be open.
The &MEDICAL listing also includes a selling price. That is a price for work, not evidence of an admission charge. Keep exhibition entry, buying an object and booking a special event separate when reading a page.
A reasonable short visit is to choose two exhibitions, leave time to look properly and have a meal nearby. Add the KK venue on an eligible date if it interests you, rather than treating it as a compulsory stop.
Harajuku: a free sound installation at SAS
The invisi exhibition runs at SAS from October 30 to November 8, 11:00-18:00. The sound-focused team reinterprets Kyoto-made *orin* bowls as instruments in an installation. Guest talks are also planned; check their separate details before building a day around one.
The venue's current event calendar lists free entrance. SAS is at B1, 3-56-3 Sendagaya, Shibuya-ku, about five minutes on foot from Harajuku Station's Takeshita exit according to the exhibitor.
This is a different kind of stop from shopping for a chair or studying a material sample. Allow time to listen, follow instructions inside the space and check before photographing or recording.
Because the venue is below ground, ask about the route in if stairs, a wheelchair or a stroller affect your visit. The address alone does not confirm a step-free entrance. For a wider family holiday, the Japan with kids guide covers country-level planning without turning this festival into a full-day children's itinerary.
Build one local route, then decide whether to cross town
The festival's exhibition directory has area and genre filters. Use them to make a small shortlist rather than collecting more pins than you can visit.
For a Ginza and Hibiya day, pick your main-venue date first, check its current opening and admission instructions, then select the Okuroji exhibitions whose hours fit. Keep a meal break and time for finding the actual entrances.
For a Harajuku-focused visit, start with SAS and choose another nearby exhibition from the current directory. Check its address, opening days and reservation requirements individually. You can leave an afternoon flexible without assuming a showroom accepts every walk-in.
Cross to another district only if a particular work justifies the journey. A short list that you can finish is more useful than a citywide route that ignores travel and closing times.
If you also want a screening during the overlapping dates, read the Tokyo International Film Festival guide. Its booking and cinema-admission rules are separate from DESIGNART.
Transport tools, weather and access checks
The organizer names Hibiya, Ginza, Ginza-itchome and Yurakucho as nearby stations for the KK venue. Choose the approach for the actual festival entrance, not a pin for the entire former expressway.
Use Tokyo Metro's route and station information to check the approach and transfers. Save the English subway map before leaving your accommodation; it is available as a PDF. Check your return journey for the time you intend to leave, including any separate evening event.
Prepare for outdoor walking between venues. Check the organizer's latest notice before travelling in poor weather, and ask about the main site's weather policy rather than assuming your ticket guarantees operation in every condition.
If accessibility is essential, ask the organizer about the KK entrance, lifts, surface, toilets and any companion arrangement before buying. Ask each city venue separately. Do not infer that a temporary elevated-road exhibition and a basement showroom have the same access conditions.
Save the exhibition's Japanese name and full address alongside your map pin. It can help you identify a small space when several businesses share one building. Keep any admission confirmation available offline and check how the seller requires you to present it.
Mobile data for exhibition-hopping
Mobile data is useful for checking a changed opening time, finding a station exit or meeting someone in another district. OpenSim's Japan plans give visitors a separate prepaid allowance for those journeys. On October 15, the public catalog listed a 5GB, 30-day plan at USD5.40 with top-up support; confirm the selected package's current terms and price.
That can suit a trip with a fixed data budget and an eligible plan you can top up. If your existing mobile plan already includes enough Japan roaming, keeping it may be simpler. A data plan does not supply exhibition admission or confirm that a venue is open.
Compare the options in the Japan eSIM guide, estimate your allowance with the travel data calculator, and check phone compatibility. The installation timing guide explains what to check before departure. Keep ticket files and a map backup even when you have mobile data.
DESIGNART sources and photograph credit
Festival dates, published ticket prices and the selected exhibition listings above were checked on October 15, 2026. Recheck the programme before October 30, remember the main-venue finish on November 3, and confirm city exhibition hours on the day. After November 8, these dates refer to the completed 2026 edition.
