easyJet Italy strike October 16: guaranteed flights
easyJet flight personnel in Italy are scheduled to strike for 24 hours on Friday, October 16, from 00:00 to 23:59 local time. Italy's transport ministry still lists the national action, and ENAC has published the services that must be protected.
That does not mean every easyJet flight will be cancelled. ENAC protects flights scheduled to depart from 07:00 to 10:00 and 18:00 to 21:00, along with several named island and intercontinental services. Other flights may also operate if easyJet has enough staff.

The practical answer: Keep a valid booking unless easyJet tells you it has changed. Check Flight Tracker and Manage Bookings before leaving, then check again at the airport. A protected flight still needs a live status check.
This guide reflects official notices available at 3:00pm CEST on October 15, 2026. The strike, flight list and individual schedules can change.
When the easyJet Italy strike is scheduled
The Italian transport ministry's strike register lists a national action by USB Lavoro Privato involving easyJet flight personnel. It runs from 00:00 through 23:59 on October 16 and covers all Italian provinces.
Naples Airport has separately warned that delays or cancellations may occur and tells passengers to contact the airline, travel agent or tour operator for their flight. Neither notice says that every easyJet departure will stop.
The distinction matters. A 24-hour strike window describes when staff may take action. It is not a final flight-cancellation list.
Which easyJet flights are guaranteed
ENAC's official guaranteed-flight notice protects all flights, including charter flights, that are scheduled to depart in these local-time windows:
- 07:00 to 10:00;
- 18:00 to 21:00.
The one-page ENAC order also names five easyJet services outside the general rule:
| Flight | Route | Why ENAC lists it |
|---|---|---|
| EJU4115 | Naples to Olbia | Once-daily island link |
| EJU4116 | Olbia to Naples | Once-daily island link |
| EJU3599 | Milan Malpensa to Lampedusa | Once-daily island link |
| EJU3600 | Lampedusa to Milan Malpensa | Once-daily island link |
| EJU3897 | Milan Malpensa to Sharm el-Sheikh | Protected intercontinental departure |
ENAC also protects qualifying charter services to and from islands, arriving intercontinental flights, and certain flights already in progress or delayed for reasons outside the parties' control. The order allows easyJet to operate further services when staffing permits.
Being on the protected list is not a reason to skip normal checks. ENAC tells passengers to ask their airline for the operation of a specific flight.
How to check your flight without cancelling it yourself
Use easyJet's Flight Tracker for real-time status. If departure is more than two days away, easyJet says to sign in with the booking reference and surname or with the account used for the booking.
Check the operating flight number, departure airport and date. An airport departure board may lag behind a direct airline message, while an early warning may change as easyJet rearranges crews and aircraft. Save any cancellation or rebooking notice.
Do not cancel a valid booking simply because the flight sits outside a protected window. A passenger-initiated cancellation can be treated differently from an airline cancellation under the fare rules.
If a travel agent or tour operator issued the booking, tell it about any change you make directly with easyJet. Ask the issuer to confirm every sector on a multi-flight itinerary.
What to do if easyJet cancels the flight
easyJet says a cancelled passenger can use Manage Bookings to switch to another available flight, request a voucher or request a refund. Its current disruption guidance also describes alternative transport when no easyJet flight can reach the destination within 24 hours. Read the conditions and obtain approval where required before paying for a new airline, train, bus or car.
EU passenger rules give a cancelled passenger a choice among reimbursement, rerouting at the earliest opportunity or rerouting later under comparable conditions, subject to availability. Choosing a refund ends the right to rerouting for that cancelled journey, so decide which result you need before selecting an option.
Reasonable care can include meals and, when necessary, accommodation while waiting for rerouting. Follow easyJet's instructions and retain itemised receipts. Do not assume an expensive self-booked replacement will automatically be reimbursed.
Compensation is a separate decision
Refund, rerouting and care are separate from cash compensation. The EU's current passenger-rights guidance says a strike by an airline's own staff is not, by itself, an extraordinary circumstance. Compensation can still depend on notice, arrival delay, route, the actual reason for the disruption and the airline's evidence.
Use easyJet's notice of rights and claims process for the individual booking. A strike label in a headline does not settle the claim, and OpenSim cannot determine eligibility from a flight number alone.
Connections and separate tickets need extra care
If every flight is on one reservation, ask easyJet or the issuing agent to protect the full itinerary rather than changing one sector in isolation. A different airport, late arrival or overnight replacement may affect bags, ground transport and the return trip.
With separate tickets, the second airline may treat a missed flight under its own fare rules. Check that booking before accepting a replacement that arrives after the next flight's cutoff. Travel insurance may cover some losses that the first airline does not.
Passengers connecting through Naples should also note the airport's direct warning about the easyJet action. The official notice advises checking with the airline, agency or tour operator rather than relying only on the airport timetable.
Mobile data after your flight is settled
An Italy OpenSim eSIM can provide eligible mobile data for airline messages, maps and onward transport after arrival. The public catalog was checked on October 15 and showed current Italy plans with varying allowances, validity periods and top-up eligibility.
An eSIM does not work while a device is in flight mode without permitted onboard connectivity. It cannot prevent a cancellation, protect a connection or replace the airline's official status.
Ten questions about the easyJet Italy strike
Is every easyJet flight in Italy cancelled on October 16?
No. The official notices describe a 24-hour strike and a risk of delays or cancellations. ENAC protects specific windows and flights, and easyJet may operate additional services when staffing allows.
What time does the strike start and end?
The ministry register lists the action from 00:00 to 23:59 local time on Friday, October 16, 2026.
Are flights between 07:00 and 10:00 guaranteed?
ENAC says flights scheduled to depart from 07:00 to 10:00 must operate. The same protection applies from 18:00 to 21:00. Check the scheduled departure time and live airline status.
Is my Naples to Olbia flight protected?
ENAC names EJU4115 from Naples to Olbia and EJU4116 in the reverse direction. Match the flight number, route and date, then confirm live status with easyJet.
Are the Milan Malpensa to Lampedusa flights protected?
ENAC names EJU3599 from Malpensa to Lampedusa and EJU3600 back to Malpensa. A listing does not remove the need to check for a later operational change.
Is the Malpensa to Sharm el-Sheikh flight guaranteed?
ENAC identifies EJU3897 as a protected intercontinental departure. Confirm that the flight number and date on your booking match the notice.
Should I cancel and buy another flight now?
Not solely because of the strike notice. Keep the valid booking while easyJet still shows it as operating. A voluntary cancellation may follow different fare rules from an airline cancellation.
Can I choose a refund and still ask easyJet to reroute me?
Not for the same cancelled journey. EU guidance treats reimbursement and rerouting as alternatives. Review the options before selecting one in Manage Bookings.
Will easyJet pay for a hotel and meals?
Care may be due while you wait for rerouting, depending on the disruption and timing. Follow easyJet's instructions, keep itemised receipts and avoid assuming any self-selected cost will be accepted.
Does a staff strike automatically qualify for cash compensation?
No automatic answer fits every passenger. EU guidance says an internal airline strike is not itself an extraordinary circumstance, but eligibility still depends on the individual disruption, notice and other facts.
A short checklist for October 16
- Confirm the flight number, route and scheduled departure time.
- Check whether it falls in a protected window or appears in ENAC's named list.
- Keep the booking unless easyJet confirms a change.
- Save airline messages and the original itinerary.
- Decide between refund and rerouting before selecting an option.
- Ask the issuing agent to review every connected sector.
- Keep itemised receipts during an eligible wait.
- Recheck Flight Tracker before leaving and at the airport.
Sources to recheck if the strike changes
The ministry register controls the current strike listing. ENAC controls the protected-flight order, and easyJet controls each booking and live flight status. Naples Airport supplies a local passenger warning. EU and easyJet rights pages support the cancellation guidance.
OpenSim will update this URL if the action is withdrawn or rescheduled, ENAC changes its order, easyJet publishes a material waiver or the airline changes the status of the named flights. After October 16, the page will preserve the dated record and direct passengers to current airline information.
