The airline calls this the only commercial direct scheduled service on the route and says it will begin with two weekly flights. It may review frequency according to demand and load factors, but that is not a promise of flights after October 24.

An earlier schedule filing reported by AeroRoutes used flight numbers H9 780 and H9 781, listed an Airbus A320 and showed a September 7 start. It also gave 08:35 as the Kathmandu arrival. The airline's newer release changes the start and arrival time, so do not use the August filing alone to make a connection or hotel decision. Confirm the flight number and aircraft on the live booking.

What a 02:00 Pudong arrival means

The scheduled arrival at Shanghai Pudong is 02:00, not an evening arrival. Immigration, baggage and customs come after landing, so a traveler may not reach the public arrivals hall until much later.

Shanghai's current airport transport guide lists Metro Line 2 and the maglev, but neither should be treated as an immediate 02:00 option. The guide places official taxi stands outside Arrival Gate 12 at Terminal 1 and Arrival Gate 25 at Terminal 2. It estimates about 50 minutes and 180 yuan to People's Square in ordinary conditions. Check the meter, keep the hotel name and address in Chinese, and use the signed taxi queue rather than accepting an unsolicited ride.

If you prefer to wait, Pudong has midnight stopover areas and 24-hour amenities in selected zones. Access depends on where you are in the airport, so do not assume an airside rest area will remain available after immigration. The airport also provides a 24-hour shuttle between Terminals 1 and 2 every 10 to 15 minutes, according to the city guide.

Book the correct hotel night. A room needed after the Tuesday 02:00 arrival will usually require a Monday-night reservation with confirmed late check-in. Send the hotel the flight details and ask how it handles arrivals after midnight.

The 03:00 return needs an evening-before plan

The Shanghai departure is only one hour after the inbound flight's scheduled arrival time. For a passenger starting in Shanghai, it is effectively a late Monday or Friday airport trip for a Tuesday or Saturday departure.

Himalaya Airlines tells international passengers to report to the airport counter three to four hours before departure. Working back from 03:00 means reaching the counter between 23:00 and midnight. Public rail may help with the earlier part of the journey, but check the last train for the travel date and leave enough margin for the terminal transfer and document checks. A taxi or prearranged car may be the more dependable option from a location without a late rail connection.

The carrier closes international counters 60 minutes before departure and gates 20 minutes before departure. Those are hard cutoffs, not target arrival times.

Online check-in does not replace the counter

Himalaya Airlines says online check-in is available from 24 hours until 90 minutes before departure. It still requires passengers to collect the airline boarding pass at the airport counter and complete document, immigration and security checks.

That distinction matters at 03:00. Completing the online step does not make a 01:30 airport arrival safe, and it does not override a stricter instruction on the ticket. Save the booking reference and travel documents offline in case the airport connection is slow.

Baggage depends on the ticket

The airline does not publish one checked allowance for every passenger. Its check-in page says the included amount varies by passenger type, origin, route, booking period and offer. The ticket or booking record is the controlling source.

The general cabin rule permits one bag up to 7 kg with combined dimensions of 114 cm. For the China sector, a single checked piece must not exceed 23 kg and 158 cm in combined dimensions. That 23 kg figure is a per-piece ceiling, not proof that every fare includes a checked bag.

If another airline appears on a separate ticket, do not assume Himalaya Airlines will transfer the bag. The carrier's passenger FAQ says it offers connections within its own network but currently has no codeshare agreement with other airlines. Ask both carriers about through-checking and leave time to enter China, collect the bag, clear customs and check in again when required. Pudong's published service standards allow substantially more time for international transfers without through-checked baggage than for protected transfers with it.

Entry permission is passport and itinerary specific

The new flight does not create a visa exemption. A traveler whose destination is Shanghai needs permission that fits their passport, purpose and stay. The Chinese Embassy in Nepal directs ordinary visa applicants to an online application process and lists supporting documents by visa type.

China's National Immigration Administration also describes 24-hour and 240-hour visa-free transit policies. The current 240-hour policy covers listed nationalities traveling onward to a third country or region on a confirmed ticket. Nepal is not on that published 240-hour nationality list. Even an eligible traveler must satisfy the route and port conditions. A return trip between Nepal and Shanghai is not automatically a qualifying third-country transit.

Check the official rule for every traveler before buying a restrictive fare. Airline staff and border officers may need to see the onward booking and other evidence.
