JetBlue has issued a weather waiver for its flights to and from New Orleans on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10, 2026. If the trip qualifies, you can move it to a JetBlue-operated flight through Wednesday, October 14 without a change fee or fare difference. The original booking must have been made before Thursday, October 8, and the change must be completed before the original departure time.

The waiver does not mean every New Orleans flight is cancelled. Check the exact flight before going to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, and do not confuse a voluntary waiver cancellation with the cash refund available when JetBlue cancels a flight.

The practical answer: open Manage Trips now if the October 9 or 10 itinerary is on a JetBlue-operated flight to or from MSY and was booked before October 8. Compare the replacement journey before confirming it. If the tool rejects an eligible booking, contact JetBlue before the original departure time and keep screenshots of the error.

Read the live JetBlue travel alert before confirming a change. The airline can revise or remove an alert as conditions develop.

Why JetBlue issued the New Orleans waiver

JetBlue's alert still calls the system Tropical Storm Isaias. Since the alert was posted, the National Hurricane Center has classified Isaias as a hurricane. Its 4 a.m. Central discussion on October 9 reported further overnight intensification as the system approached the northern Gulf Coast.

The National Weather Service New Orleans office displayed hurricane, tropical storm and storm-surge warnings across parts of the area early Friday. Those warnings explain the travel risk, but they do not establish the status of one flight.

MSY's public website has not posted an airport closure. Its flight-status page directs passengers to check by airline, city or flight number, and its airline directory tells travelers to contact the airline for booking changes. A terminal remaining open does not guarantee that a particular departure or arrival will operate.

Decide whether to keep, move or cancel the trip

Start with the purpose of the journey, not the headline.

  • Keep the booking if the timing still works and you are prepared for a late change. Monitor JetBlue's flight tracker and the email or phone number attached to the reservation.
  • Move the booking if a JetBlue-operated alternative through October 14 protects the trip better. Check every segment, connection and arrival time before confirming.
  • Cancel under the waiver only after checking what JetBlue will return. If the airline has not cancelled or significantly changed the flight, do not assume that a voluntary cancellation produces a cash refund.

JetBlue says Manage Trips should apply an active fee waiver automatically to an eligible reservation. Its delay and cancellation guide also says a cancelled flight can be rebooked on the next available JetBlue flight at no extra charge or refunded to the original form of payment.

Save the original itinerary, the waiver page, the replacement choice and the final confirmation. If the site displays a fare difference or says the booking cannot be changed, take a screenshot before contacting JetBlue. Do not let the original departure pass while an unresolved change is sitting in a browser or chat queue.

A waiver cancellation and an airline cancellation are different

A weather waiver gives an eligible passenger temporary flexibility before the airline decides whether the flight will operate. JetBlue's normal fare and credit rules can still determine what happens when the passenger voluntarily cancels an operating flight.

An airline cancellation is different. The US Department of Transportation refund guide says a passenger is entitled to a refund when the airline cancels or significantly changes a flight and the passenger declines the alternative offered. The refund right applies regardless of the reason for the cancellation, including weather.

That refund is separate from meals, a hotel or other disruption costs. DOT's airline cancellation and delay dashboard covers carrier commitments for disruptions within an airline's control. Weather is outside that category. Our US airline delay rules guide explains that distinction in more detail. Ask JetBlue what it will provide, but do not make a non-refundable hotel purchase on the assumption that the airline must reimburse it.

If you accept a new flight, travel credit or another form of compensation, read the effect on the refund choice first. Keep the communication that shows what was offered and what you accepted.

What to do when Manage Trips does not work

Public JetBlue discussions show recurring questions from travelers whose eligible-looking booking displayed a Blue Basic restriction, a fare difference, a greyed-out button or an error. Those reports identify useful checks, but they do not override the current alert.

Use this order:

  1. Confirm that the itinerary is JetBlue-operated, touches MSY on October 9 or 10, and was booked before October 8.
  2. Check that the new travel finishes by October 14 and that you are acting before the original departure.
  3. Try Manage Trips in a fresh browser session and review the final price before submitting.
  4. Screenshot the alert, itinerary, error and any unexpected charge.
  5. Contact JetBlue by its current chat or phone channel. Group bookings of 10 or more must use 1-800-JETBLUE.
  6. Ask the agent to confirm every affected segment and the amount due before approving the change.

Do not pay an unexpected fare difference merely because seats appear to be disappearing. If urgent travel makes a separate replacement necessary, understand that reimbursement of another airline's ticket is not promised by this waiver. Keep both bookings and all communications for an insurer or later claim.

Check connections, return flights and points bookings

A change can reach beyond the MSY sector. Open the full itinerary and check the return, onward flight, seat selection and any separately booked connection. Ask whether the proposed change preserves the rest of the reservation before clicking confirm.

The alert does not publish a separate exception for a booking made with TrueBlue points. If Manage Trips does not provide a usable option, contact JetBlue before departure rather than guessing how points, taxes or extras will be returned.

For a ticket bought through a travel agent, the online tool may direct you back to the issuer. Contact the company shown on the payment record and keep JetBlue's alert with the request. The merchant of record is generally responsible for a refund when one is due on an airline-cancelled or significantly changed US flight.

Separate tickets remain separate contracts. A JetBlue change does not automatically move another airline, hotel, cruise or event booking. Contact each supplier before its own no-show or cancellation deadline.

Prepare for a same-day status change

Check the JetBlue flight tracker before leaving, but remain ready for the status to change. JetBlue notes that weather elsewhere along an aircraft's route can affect a flight even when conditions at the departure airport look manageable.

Keep these items together:

  • the booking reference and flight number;
  • screenshots of the waiver and current itinerary;
  • the JetBlue and MSY flight-status pages;
  • a realistic replacement flight you can name to an agent;
  • hotel and onward-booking deadlines;
  • medication, documents and one night's essentials in hand luggage; and
  • offline copies of any boarding pass, address and insurance policy.

Follow emergency instructions from local authorities. Airline flexibility is not a signal to travel through a hurricane warning or ignore evacuation advice.

Mobile data for a changed New Orleans journey

A United States OpenSim eSIM can provide ground-based mobile data on a compatible, unlocked phone for airline alerts, maps and accommodation messages. The live catalog returned 37 United States packages when checked on October 9. Allowance, validity, network, hotspot support and top-up eligibility depend on the selected package and can change.

An eSIM does not make a flight operate, bypass an outage or guarantee service during severe weather. Install while dependable Wi-Fi is available, save the setup details offline and keep the usual SIM available if JetBlue or a bank sends verification texts to that number.

OpenSim options for New Orleans travelers

Choose from the current United States catalog only after the journey is settled. A wider regional plan does not improve hurricane resilience, and a data plan should not influence a safety decision.

Ten questions about the JetBlue New Orleans waiver

Does the waiver mean my JetBlue flight is cancelled?

No. It provides flexibility for eligible travel. Check the individual flight in JetBlue's tracker and your booking before leaving for MSY.

Does the waiver apply to Blue Basic?

The alert lists flight, airport, travel-date and booking-date conditions without publishing a Blue Basic exclusion. If Manage Trips blocks the change, contact JetBlue before the original departure and ask an agent to apply the active waiver.

Why does Manage Trips still show a fare difference?

First confirm that the new flight is within the October 14 window and that the original trip meets every condition. Review the final checkout screen without submitting, save a screenshot and contact JetBlue if an unexpected amount remains.

Can I cancel now and get money back to my card?

Do not assume so if the flight is still operating. A voluntary waiver cancellation can follow fare and credit rules. A refund to the original form of payment is available when JetBlue cancels the flight, or when a qualifying significant change occurs and you decline the alternative.

What happens if JetBlue cancels my flight?

JetBlue says you may rebook on its next available flight at no extra charge or receive a refund to the original form of payment. Act before departure and review any automatic rebooking first.

Can JetBlue rebook me on another airline?

JetBlue says some passengers with cancelled flights, or qualifying long delays, may be eligible for partner-airline rebooking. It is not guaranteed by this waiver. Ask an agent about the exact itinerary before buying another ticket yourself.

Will JetBlue pay for a hotel or meals during the hurricane?

Do not rely on that. DOT's amenity dashboard addresses controllable disruptions, while weather is outside an airline's control. Ask JetBlue, check travel insurance and keep itemized receipts for necessary spending.

What if my ticket was booked with TrueBlue points?

The alert does not give points bookings a separate process. Try Manage Trips, then contact JetBlue before departure if the app does not offer a workable choice. Ask how points, taxes and paid extras will be handled before confirming.

What happens to my return flight or connection?

It depends on how the itinerary was ticketed and what change you accept. Review every segment and ask JetBlue to confirm the full reservation. Separately booked flights are not automatically protected.

Why can weather cancel a flight when New Orleans looks calm?

The aircraft, crew or route can encounter weather elsewhere, and airport or air-traffic restrictions can develop before local conditions visibly worsen. Use JetBlue's flight tracker rather than judging the operation from the terminal window.

What to do before the original departure

Check the exact flight, decide whether the trip still works, and compare one eligible replacement through October 14. Save the live waiver and the full itinerary before making a change. If JetBlue cancels, choose between the offered rebooking and a refund based on whether the journey still has value.

The waiver expires as a practical option when the original departure passes. Resolve any error with JetBlue before then, and put safety instructions ahead of the booking decision.

How this alert will be maintained

The waiver dates, covered airport, original booking cutoff, rebooking deadline, fee treatment and group-booking route come from JetBlue's current travel alert. JetBlue's help pages and Contract of Carriage support the rebooking, cancellation and fare-rule distinctions. DOT supports the refund and controllable-disruption boundaries. The National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service support the storm status, while MSY supports the airport and flight-status checks.

We will update this page if JetBlue changes or extends the waiver, revises the covered dates or airport, or publishes a material cancellation update. We will also update it if MSY changes its operating status or the official storm warnings materially alter the passenger decision.
