Lisbon Marathon 2026: bib collection, trains and road changes
The EDP Lisbon Marathon starts at 08:00 on Saturday October 10, 2026, in Carcavelos and finishes at Praca do Comercio. The Hyundai Half Marathon is on Sunday October 11 at 09:20, starting on the Vasco da Gama Bridge. Check the race name on your registration: the two starts need different transport, and marathon bib collection ends a day earlier. Official marathon schedule and Hyundai half-marathon information.
For visitors who are not running, the immediate issue is changed waterfront transport. A Belém booking or a journey through Baixa needs a checked route, not an assumption that the usual tram will run unchanged.

Which race are you attending?
All times below are local to Lisbon. Keep the name, date and start point together when sharing plans with a companion.
| Race | Start | Journey to plan | Finish |
|---|---|---|---|
| EDP Lisbon Marathon | Saturday October 10, 08:00, Carcavelos | Train to Carcavelos, then walk to the start | Praca do Comercio |
| Hyundai Half Marathon | Sunday October 11, 09:20, Vasco da Gama Bridge | Organizer bus from Oriente | Praca do Comercio |
| EDP 8K | Sunday October 11, 09:20, Vasco da Gama Bridge | Organizer bus from Parque das Nacoes | Parque das Nacoes |
The weekend schedule lists Sunday's two starts. CP's event notice confirms the separate finish areas and official-bus access for the bridge races.
October's Hyundai race is not the spring EDP Lisbon Half Marathon. Advice about the 25 de Abril Bridge or a March SuperHalfs visit concerns a different event.
Where do marathon runners collect their bib?
Current instructions name Sport Expo, Pavilion 3 at FIL, in Parque das Nacoes, on October 8 and 9 from 10:00 to 20:00. Friday October 9 at 20:00 is the published marathon collection cutoff. Official marathon information.
Bring the registration PDF from your email. Another person may collect for you using that document. If you cannot find it, visit the Expo's Solutions desk. The marathon FAQ rules out race-day collection.
If nobody can help, contact [email protected] promptly, but do not assume an alternative pickup is guaranteed. Collecting a friend's bib is different from running under their registration: entries are personal and non-transferable.
Save the PDF on your phone before going to FIL. Keep the pavilion number with the venue pin so you are not searching through email at the entrance. A flight landing before the cutoff is not enough if the transfer and queue leave you arriving afterward.
How do you reach the Saturday start in Carcavelos?
Take the Cascais line from Cais do Sodre toward Carcavelos. The start is on Estrada N6-7 beside NOVA School of Business & Economics, roughly 1 km from Carcavelos station. The organizer estimates about 30 minutes for the train from Lisbon. Official start directions.
CP confirms extra Saturday departures from Cais do Sodre at 06:10, 06:20, 06:40, 06:50 and 07:10, in addition to regular services. They stop at all stations. CP's marathon notice.
Use the train recommended on your bib. The organizer FAQ warns that departures after 07:10 will not reach Carcavelos in time. That is a cutoff, not a recommendation to wait for the last service.
Page 8 of the runner's guide has the full timetable; page 10 maps the station-to-start walk. Allow time for that walk and your own preparation. An early race train does not establish that a connecting Metro service runs when you need it: check how you will reach Cais do Sodre.
If you are staying in Cascais, follow the timetable for boarding there rather than traveling back to Lisbon first. Your return needs a separate plan because the race finishes downtown.
Are trains, Metro and buses free for runners?
Keep your bib after finishing. CP allows participants free travel on Lisbon urban trains on October 10 and 11 until 19:00, presenting the bib. At gated stations, use the special access channel. CP terms.
That is CP's rail offer, not a 19:00 cutoff for every mode. The organizer's broader free-transport guidance states 17:00 on race day. Check the operator for the service you will use, especially for a later return.
Companions should arrange their own tickets. Traveling with a runner does not establish a spectator entitlement.
How does Sunday's half-marathon transfer work?
Hyundai runners reach the bridge start only on organizer buses from Oriente, beside Vasco da Gama shopping centre, between 06:30 and 07:30. Follow the suggested bus time on your bib and avoid the last departures. A taxi to the bridge is not an equivalent route. Official Hyundai transport instructions.
Hyundai bib collection also includes Saturday October 10, 10:00 to 20:00 at FIL Pavilion 3. This extra day does not extend the marathon's Friday deadline.
If your group is doing different distances, separate the meeting plans too. The EDP 8K finishes in Parque das Nacoes; the half marathon finishes downtown. Sharing a start does not mean sharing a finish.
Will the marathon affect a Belém visit or the usual tram?
Carris lists Saturday October 10 route changes from 06:00 to 14:30, including 15E, 18E and 728. The notice describes 15E operating in sections and 18E between Cemiterio da Ajuda and Belém. Check your actual origin and destination against the Saturday Carris notice.
Keep any attraction reservation and arrival window handy, then review your journey before leaving. Transport changes do not, by themselves, mean Jeronimos Monastery or another attraction is closed. Ask the attraction about your booking rather than cancelling based on a race headline.
For a Sunday Cascais trip, check Sunday's service information separately. Saturday's notice neither cancels that trip nor guarantees normal transport the next day. Leave spare time for the return if you have a flight or train connection.
Where can family watch and meet a runner?
The runner's guide identifies support locations including Alges station around km 33, the Coaches Museum around km 36 and MAAT around km 36.5. Its finish map shows meeting points outside the runners' finish area. Use that map to choose where to reunite.
One reachable viewing point and a clear finish meeting are easier to manage than chasing the runner by car. Agree on a fallback time if messages are delayed. Keep children with an adult and follow stewards' crossing instructions.
Do not promise a step-free viewing spot based on a map alone. Someone who needs seating or accessible facilities should confirm the specific location before traveling. The Portugal with kids guide can help plan the rest of the visit without fitting every attraction into race day.
Can you leave a bag at the marathon start?
Page 9 of the 2026 runner's guide confirms the marathon bag service. Use the official bag and sticker issued with your bib, drop it at the start and collect it after the race. This is not a promise to transport a suitcase.
Ask your accommodation about storing larger luggage if you are checking out that morning. Keep travel documents and anything you cannot afford to lose out of a casual storage arrangement. A hotel change after the finish needs its own transfer plan.
What should you save before race morning?
Keep the organizer's PDF, CP notice and Carris service changes easy to reopen. Save your registration, start map, finish meeting point and accommodation address offline. A downloaded map helps with directions; it will not receive a new transport notice.
Use the race name and bib number when messaging your supporter. Check any tracking link against the organizer's latest communication rather than downloading an app solely because a discussion recommends it. A delayed tracker update is not a reliable account of a runner's location.
Check the current official weather forecast before packing. Wind and heat questions need fresh information, not a previous runner's description of another October morning. This guide is about travel arrangements, not a last-minute training plan.
When does OpenSim suit a Lisbon race weekend?
If your usual plan includes enough Portugal roaming data, you may not need another plan. Otherwise, OpenSim Portugal plans let you choose a separate allowance for transport checks and family messages. The public catalog checked October 9 listed 1GB for seven days at $1.14 USD and 5GB for 30 days at $4.76 USD; both examples were top-up eligible. Checkout fees or currency conversion may affect the total.
If your home operator charges more for roaming, the smaller fixed plan can suit a short weekend without buying a month-sized allowance. A longer Portugal visit may justify the larger option. Compare the total cost and your data needs rather than assuming the lowest starting price covers the trip.
No eSIM guarantees fast data in a crowd or access through a road closure. Keep the offline documents even with mobile data. Before buying, use the travel data calculator, phone compatibility guide and installation timing guide.
