Lebara Travel eSIM is live: plans, setup and limits
Lebara now has a standalone travel eSIM for people who want mobile data abroad. It is a separate product from a Lebara home mobile plan, a local Lebara eSIM, or a roaming pass added to an existing line.
This is a missed launch rather than an August launch. The Apple App Store version history dates version 1.0 to March 25, 2026. Fresh coverage published in August brought the product back into search results, but it would be misleading to call it new this week.
The traveler decision: Lebara Travel eSIM is useful if you value one reusable profile and want to buy data inside its app for later trips. A Roaming eSIM has the edge when you want to compare live package prices, validity, networks and top-up eligibility before choosing a destination plan.
What Lebara Travel eSIM actually is
The Lebara Travel website sells prepaid mobile data for travel. A customer chooses a destination and package, installs an eSIM through the app, and uses that profile on a compatible unlocked phone.
The product should not be confused with these similarly named services:

This distinction matters because search results currently mix all three. A page about Lebara UK free EU roaming or a German Lebara roaming bundle does not describe the standalone travel eSIM.
The launch date is March 25, not August 21
The earliest public date we could verify is March 25, 2026, when version 1.0 appeared in Apple's version history. The Android listing also describes the standalone travel product, but it does not expose the same clear release history.
A 5G.co.uk guide published on August 21 is recent coverage, not evidence of a new launch date. That guide is useful, but a traveler needs several details from Lebara's own terms before buying: the data-only limit, activation trigger, single-device rule, refund conditions and possible tethering restrictions.
Country totals conflict, so check the destination selector
Lebara's public listings do not agree on the number of supported countries. The Apple listing says 180 or more, the Google Play description says 200 or more, and recent third-party coverage says more than 190.
Those figures may use different counting methods, include regional products, or have been updated at different times. They should not be combined into a single definitive total.
Use the live destination selector and package screen as the authority for the country you need. A large global count does not prove that a specific island, territory, border stop or cruise route is covered. The terms also exclude in-flight, maritime and satellite networks.
Activation and installation require careful timing
Lebara tells customers to install the eSIM before travel and says a selected plan can activate on arrival. Its terms and conditions say service begins when the customer first activates the eSIM or first accesses a data network, whichever happens first.
That wording leaves room for an early manual activation to start the plan before the trip. Follow the instruction shown for the exact package in the app. Installing a profile and activating a paid plan are not always the same event.
You need an internet connection for purchase and installation. Complete the setup on reliable Wi-Fi, keep the confirmation details, and avoid deleting the profile if something does not work. Lebara warns that a deleted profile may not be restorable.
Once installed, the eSIM is tied to one device and cannot be transferred. A phone change may therefore require a new profile or help from support.
It is data-only, with no ordinary calls or SMS
Lebara Travel eSIM does not provide ordinary mobile calls, SMS or an emergency-calling service. The terms specifically exclude 911, 112 and 999 access through the product.
Apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Signal and other internet calling tools can work over mobile data where the app is available. That is different from receiving a new mobile number. Keep your usual SIM active only if you understand its carrier's roaming charges, and select the travel eSIM as the mobile-data line.

One profile can carry later plans, but top-up is not automatic
Lebara says the installed profile can remain on the phone after a plan expires or runs out. A customer can then buy another plan for that profile. The first purchase can be made without an account, while an account is needed for additional purchases and the complete app experience.
That reusable-profile design is a genuine advantage for repeat users. It does not mean every expired allowance renews automatically or that an unused package can be transferred to another person. Check the destination, data amount, validity and start rule for each new purchase.
Lebara also says persistent use that does not look like travel may be throttled or suspended. It is a travel service, not a substitute for a permanent home broadband or mobile contract.
Hotspot use and refunds need a package-level check
The public marketing pages do not promise universal hotspot support. Lebara's terms allow network management and possible tethering restrictions. If a laptop connection is essential, ask support about the exact destination and package before paying.
Refund flexibility is also limited. Lebara says sales become final after activation or first use, except where the service is defective or local law provides another remedy. It may offer a replacement or refund for a confirmed defect at its discretion.
This makes pre-purchase checks important. Confirm compatibility, unlock status, destination coverage, validity and the intended start date before activation. If installation fails, save screenshots and contact support before deleting the profile.

The better choice depends on the trip, not the brand name alone.

Lebara wins for a reusable profile and guest first purchase: those are useful conveniences when its destination package and terms match the trip.
The UK price comparison is a dated example, not a promise that Roaming eSIM is always cheaper. Prices and inventories can change. The live card at checkout remains the authority for either provider.

The Roaming eSIM catalog was checked at 16:25 UTC on August 22. UK plans included 1GB for 7 days at US$1.14, 3GB for 15 days at US$3 and 5GB for 30 days at US$4.76. Reviewed cards named Three, O2, T-Mobile UK and Vodafone, depending on the package.
Turkey plans included 1GB for 7 days at US$0.92 and 3GB for 15 days at US$2.78, with Türk Telekom shown on the reviewed options. These examples can change and do not describe every package.
