LEFFEST 2026: Lisbon tickets, subtitles and venue travel

LEFFEST runs in Lisbon from November 6-15, 2026. Choose the screening, check its dialogue and subtitle languages, then use the ticket outlet listed for that venue. The festival's English website does not mean every film has English subtitles, and the cinemas are spread across different parts of the city.
The 20th edition combines new films with retrospectives and conversations. You can spend an evening with one filmmaker's work or make a longer cinema trip out of the programme. Start with a film you want to see rather than a target number of screenings: a long film followed by a conversation can occupy much of an afternoon.
The organizer's November 2 ticket announcement confirms the November 6 opening and explains the different booking platforms. For a visitor, the most useful preparation is a short list containing the film, date, venue, room and language information for each booking.
How to choose a LEFFEST screening you can follow
Open the official timetable, choose your day, and read both Language and Subtitles. EN means English, PT Portuguese and KO Korean; RO, NO and SV identify Romanian, Norwegian and Swedish dialogue.
An English-language film with Portuguese subtitles may suit an English-speaking visitor. A film containing some English alongside several other languages is different. If the subtitles are Portuguese only, do not assume the remaining dialogue will be translated into English.
Two opening-night choices illustrate the distinction:
| November 6 screening | Venue and start | Film language | Published subtitles | Listed price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Possible Love, Lee Chang-dong | Medeia Nimas, 8:30pm | Korean | Portuguese and English | EUR 8 |
| Fjord, Cristian Mungiu | NOS Vasco da Gama, Room 4, 9pm | Romanian, Norwegian, English and Swedish | Portuguese | EUR 8 |
The Possible Love listing gives a duration of 164 minutes. Plan for a late finish before adding travel, a discussion or dinner. The Fjord listing is 146 minutes and lists Portuguese subtitles. For an English-only visitor, those are different language choices even though both films have English titles on the website.
Treat the table as programme information, not a statement that seats remain available. Recheck the exact session and checkout before making a non-refundable travel booking. A title appearing in an aggregator is not enough if it differs from the organizer's current schedule.
Which ticket website should you use?
Follow the screening's own purchase link or the official ticket page. The outlet changes with the venue:
| Venue | Listed online outlet | Before you buy |
|---|---|---|
| Cinema Sao Jorge | BOL | Check the room as well as the film and time |
| Culturgest | Ticketline | Check Grand versus Small Auditorium |
| Medeia Nimas | ActiveTicket | Match the session date, not only the film title |
| NOS Vasco da Gama | ActiveTicket | Use the festival's link for its programme |
| Teatro do Bairro | ActiveTicket | Check whether the specific session is on sale |
Keep confirmations from each platform together. Booking one film does not establish admission to another screening, even if the venues are part of the same festival. Check any pack, discount or pass against its actual conditions rather than importing rules from a different Lisbon film festival.
If your travel dates are uncertain, decide which film is worth fixing the itinerary around. Leave another evening unbooked instead of buying several conflicting sessions and assuming tickets can be changed or refunded. The applicable terms are those of the selected booking.
Free screenings and physical box offices
The November 2 announcement says tickets for free screenings are collected on the day at the respective venue's box office. A free session still needs the required ticket; it is not a reason to arrive at the auditorium just as the film starts. Check the session and collection arrangements with the venue, especially for a group.
That announcement places the Teatro do Bairro physical box-office opening on November 7. Its statement that online tickets would go on sale shortly is not proof that every session is now available. Use the current purchase link or contact the organizer if your chosen screening is missing.
The Medeia Nimas venue page lists box-office hours from 30 minutes before the first screening until 30 minutes after the last screening starts. Culturgest's venue page lists Tuesday-Sunday, 11am-6pm, continuing until the performance begins on show days. These are different arrangements, so a general afternoon visit to one box office may not solve a booking at another cinema.
Where are the five Lisbon venues?
Save the address from the festival's current venue list, together with the room printed on your ticket.
| Venue | Published address | Planning consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Cinema Sao Jorge | Avenida da Liberdade 175 | Keep the room name with the cinema pin |
| Medeia Nimas | Avenida 5 de Outubro 42B | Plan this separately from an Avenida da Liberdade screening |
| Culturgest | Rua Arco do Cego 50 | Allow time to find the correct auditorium |
| NOS Vasco da Gama | Avenida Dom Joao II, floor 2 | This is an eastern Lisbon outing, not another city-center cinema |
| Teatro do Bairro | Rua Luz Soriano 63 | Leave time for the final walk through Bairro Alto |
Do not confuse Cinema Sao Jorge with Castelo de Sao Jorge when searching for directions. Similarly, a generic search for a NOS cinema can send you to a different shopping center. The venue and session on the festival ticket are the destination.
For two films in one day, choose the second only after checking the first film's duration. Add any scheduled conversation, the walk out of the building, the transfer and a meal. A 20-minute gap between advertised start times is not a 20-minute transfer window.
A manageable plan for a first festival visit
For an arrival-day visit, pick one evening screening with enough time after check-in. A flight delay should not leave you trying to reach a cinema with luggage and no meal.
For a full day, choose a pair that fits geographically, then leave the middle of the day open. Nimas and Culturgest are a more natural pair to compare in your route planner than a repeated trip between the central avenues and NOS Vasco da Gama. This is an itinerary suggestion, not a verified walking-time guarantee.
| Your priority | A useful approach |
|---|---|
| One film during a Lisbon holiday | Choose by language, interest and the journey from your accommodation |
| A director's retrospective | Check the section, then the individual film and subtitle fields |
| A filmmaker conversation | Confirm that the guest is attached to your specific session |
| Two films in one day | Keep a realistic meal and transfer gap, preferably within one area |
| A late screening | Decide the return journey before entering the cinema |
Read age guidance for the particular film before bringing children. A festival's daytime session is not automatically a children's screening, and a familiar director's name does not establish suitability. For the wider holiday, the Portugal with kids guide covers family activities beyond this event.
Airport arrivals and travel between screenings
Metropolitano de Lisboa's airport guide places the Metro entrance beside Terminal 1 arrivals. It lists approximately six minutes to Oriente and 18 minutes to Saldanha from Aeroporto station. Those are station-journey estimates, not door-to-door times to the cinema; add walking, waiting and any transfer.
Oriente is the relevant area to investigate for NOS Vasco da Gama, while Saldanha is useful when planning the Nimas side of the city. Put the cinema address into the route planner and check the final walk. For reduced-mobility travel, confirm the required station entrance and current lift status rather than relying on a station name alone.
The Metro's contactless instructions require one card or device per passenger. Tap in and out with the same one. A physical bank card and its version in a phone wallet are not interchangeable for completing the journey, even when they draw on the same account.
If you use a phone or watch, keep it charged so you can show the device used for travel. Carrying mobile data does not replace the payment method used at the gate. Ask staff about another ticket option if contactless is not suitable for your group.
Recheck service information on your travel day, particularly after a late screening. This guide does not establish the last departure from every station or promise that an older strike notice applies to November 6-15.
Access needs and conversations after films
Cinema Sao Jorge's accessibility page describes entrance access equipment, ramps and accessible toilets on the ground floor. Confirm the arrangements for your room and screening before booking. Its information about relaxed or audio-described sessions at other festivals does not mean all LEFFEST sessions have those features.
Ask the individual venue about wheelchair positions, companion arrangements and any communication support you need. Subtitles translating dialogue are not, by themselves, a promise of captions describing sound, a hearing loop or an interpreted conversation.
For a post-film discussion, check the named guest and language arrangements for that session. Leave additional time afterward instead of assuming the published film duration includes the conversation. Keep your phone silent and put it away during the screening; plan directions and messages before the lights go down.
Keep tickets, addresses and mobile data ready between venues
Save the venue address, booking reference and your accommodation details before leaving. Download the ticket when the issuer provides that option, and follow its instructions if a live app or changing barcode is required. An image of a booking email is useful information but is not automatically a valid ticket.
OpenSim Portugal plans can provide a separate data allowance for loading a changed journey, opening a ticket confirmation or messaging someone at another venue without finding Wi-Fi first. The November 5 catalog lists 1GB for 7 days at USD 1.14 and 3GB for 15 days at USD 3.00, both fixed-data options with eligible top-ups.
That defined allowance can suit a short Lisbon visit focused on maps and messages rather than streaming films. If your home plan already includes enough Portugal roaming, compare that allowance first. OpenSim does not reserve a seat, translate a screening or guarantee indoor reception.
Use the travel data calculator, check phone compatibility, and read when to install before travel. If the trip also includes the November 9-12 conference, use the separate Web Summit Lisbon guide for its badge and venue arrangements; a conference ticket is unrelated to cinema admission.
